Manchester City appoint Chilean as manager

Manuel Pellegrini has been confirmed as the new manager of Manchester City after signing a three-year contract.

The 59-year-old Chilean arrives from Malaga and fills the role vacated by Roberto Mancini, who was sacked in May.

"I am delighted to accept this hugely exciting opportunity," said Pellegrini, who will begin his new job on 24 June.

"The club has a clear vision for success both on and off the pitch and I am committed to making a significant contribution."

Brian Kidd will remain on the coaching staff, with Ruben Cousillas joining as assistant manager, and goalkeeping coach Xabier Mancisidor and fitness coach Jose Cabello also part of the new backroom set-up. The trio worked under Pellegrini at Malaga.

In an interview with CityTV, he added: "Roberto [Mancini] did a great job here in Manchester, especially to win the title after so many years. We now start a new cycle.

"I had other important offers from important clubs. The most important thing for me is I am sure we can make a great management team.

"I'm sure we have the best squad in the Premier League, wonderful players and can win more titles in the next three or four years in Manchester."

Speaking on the club's two-match post-season visit to the US before Pellegrini's appointment, City midfielder Samir Nasri felt the Chilean's methods would translate well onto the pitch.

"All his teams play attractive football, that is what people want to see," said the 25-year-old.

"You pay for tickets to go to football to see something great, and he is the kind of manager who can do it."

Pellegrini helped Malaga qualify for the Champions League during the 2011-12 season and led them to the quarter-finals of the competition.

City Snap Up Ter Stegen

Manchester City sign German youngster Marc Andre Ter Stegen from Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach for £22 million

Manchester City have won the race for highly rated German keeper Ter Stegan after he signed a lucrative 4 year deal at the Etihad. The young German has made 99 appearences for Borussia Monchengladbach as well as winning three caps for Germany. Barcelona and Arsenal were also rumoured to be chasing Ter Stegen.

Manchester City had been surprisingly slow to make there first deal but have now become very active and are close to signing another few youngsters before the window slams shut. Ter Stegen believe that it will be good for his development training and fighting for a place in the team with Englishmen Joe Hart.

Along with the announcement of Ter Stegen's arrival the Manchester City board revealed they were going to buy the Etihad stadium and develop the clubs training facilities. The clubs youth facilities are also going to be improved as City hope to develop young stars at the club.

Manuel Pellegrini attended a press conference alongside new signing Ter Stegen:

R: "Firstly, Manual are you pleased to have beaten the likes of Barcelona to the signing of Marc"
MP:"Both the club and myself are pleased that a deal was agreed for him(Ter Stegen) and by beating Barcelona to the signing shows the stature that the club is beginning to build and will hopefully continue to do so with signings such as this."

R:"Marc why did you choose to come to England and join City who already have a world class goalkeeper"
TS:"It was an easy choice to join such a big club with a lot of optimism and a strong future. After speaking to Manuel I was confident that City was the place for me to continue my career. Obviously it is going to be tough to get a place in the team as Joe is a fantastic keeper but I'm only 21 years old so my career is only beginning."

City Start Strongly

The Premiership is three games in and as many people expected it is the teams from Manchester who lead the way. Manchester United kicked off the defence of their title by welcoming West Ham to Old Trafford. This was the first chance for United fans to see new manager David Moyes and new signing Juan Mata. Mata did not disappoint and claimed a first half hat-trick in his first game for the Red Devils. Other new signing Marouane Fellaini also scored on his Old Trafford debut and Wayne Rooney added a fifth. Next up for Moyes' men was a trip to the Emirates to face Arsenal. Robin Van Persie denied the Gunners a point when he headered home three minutes from time. Once again United scored five at home against Fulham, Van Persie scored 4 and Shinji Kagawa also scored.

The Blue side of Manchester also started their campaign with a victory at Carrow Road against Norwich. Sergio Aguero opened the scoring five minutes into the game with a lovely finish from an acute angle. Jesus Navas started life at City with a stunning volley from 30 yards out. Alvaro Negredo also scored a debut goal but was a little less spectacular as he tapped home from 7 yards. City then played Hull at the Etihad and once again secured a 3-0 victory. Negredo scored his second goal for City and Jesus Navas continued his good form scoring two goals. Manchester City then faced the first real test of the season as Pellegrini took his side to White Hart Lane to face Tottenham. Fernandinho opened his for account City after 17 minutes of the game. Spurs equalised just before half time when the ball dropped to Jan Vertonghen and the defender dispatched the ball into the City net. Jesus Navas once again got on the score sheet. Yaya Toure killed the game off with a stunning free kick.

So the first month of this season is over and both David Moyes and Manuel Pellegrini have started well in Manchester and find their clubs top of the table.

Manchester United manager David Moyes is this months manager of the month an United striker Robin Van Persie has won player of the month

@AAN thanks, Hart has just got injured so Ter Stegen will get his chance
@PCPlod cheers mate

Group Stage Draw

Tough group there! Good luck in the Champions League! Great start to the season, especially winning away at Spurs!

The Season So Far

So far the season has gone according to plan for Manuel Pellegrini and the team as they are top of the league and still unbeaten domestically. City are in the quarter final of the Capital One Cup and a tie against Arsenal now awaits the team. Here is the League table after 9 games :

Manuel Pellegrini's Thoughts
This season has started very well for the team, with all the new signings settling into life here at the Etihad. We are still unbeaten in the league and have had some wonderful results against Tottenham and Chelsea. Hopefully we can continue this run of good form until the end of the season and bring some silverware home. On behalf of the squad we would like to thank all the supporters for their continued support.
