Hello this is my first story. Hope you enjoy reading this.

My Aims
1. Reach at least the Europa League in my first season as manager.
2. Break Prince of Wales and Lincoln’s record of 19 Premier Division titles.
3. Win the Rock Cup at least 2 times in 5 years
4. Make the Europa League or Champions League group stage within 5 years

The Character
I am going to use a fictional character called Matthew Dale. Matthew was born on the Rock in 1988 and grew up supporting Glacis United (the team who I will manage) and watched them win 5 trophies in 4 years including two league titles. He moved to London aged 18 to go to Imperial College to study engineering. He had a brief one year spell at amateur level with Cray Wanderers and impressed to sign for newly Semi-Pro Bromley, staying for three years until moving north to work at Rolls Royce Derby. He played for Buxton for two years before quitting engineering to sign for Chesterfield FC aged 24. However in his friendly debut against Staveley Miners Welfare he suffered a horrendous career-ending leg break after slipping into an advertising board. He moved to Gibraltar for specialist care and has now moved in with his parents.

The Club
Founded in 1965 they won 9 league titles in a row between 1966 and 1974. They were again successful in the early 1980s winning the Rock Cup in 1981 and 1982 before again having a brief spell of success in the late 1990s winning 5 trophies in 4 years. However they are yet to win a trophy since 2002 and finished bottom of the table last season only staying up due to the expansion of the league, with the season including 7-0 and 8-1 defeats at home to champions Lincoln. They share the Victoria Stadium with all other clubs on the island.

Good luck. Great to see another Gib league story

BTW the pic you've included is not Victoria Stadium but the Devil's Tower Camp which belongs to the MOD. Teams have to pay a small fee to train on it but no league matches are played on it.
Polynike: Thanks i've changed the picture to the stadium and good luck with your Gib League story.
Good luck with this, my story is a tad slow at the minute so enjoy reading a select few - will be following this mate. Nice start.
fmhunter: Cheers mate

The Beggining
I wake up, oblivious to the world I clamber out of bed and hobble towards the medicine cabinet. One packet after another, there is no Paracetamol in sight all I find is my nephews Calpol, he must have left it when he last visited. I pour the Calpol into a spoon and just about everywhere else in the kitchen before taking it. I scramble around and try to clean up when I find todays paper on the table.

Glacis sack Alfaro
After a terrible season including two humiliating losses against Lincoln, Glacis United finished bottom of the Gibraltar Premier Division. They were only saved from relegation by the expansion of the league and after a decent season was predicted the horror of bottom place shocked the supporters. Stephen Serrano the Glacis United Chairman has relieved Alfaro of his duties because of this and the club are now looking for a new manager who can help them restore former glories such as winning 9 league titles in a row. The people of Gibraltar are invited to submit an application for the job and should note that naturally prior experience will be taken into account.

I stumble as I reach to grab some paper but regain my balance to walk to the table. I sit down, and write my application, many thoughts went through my mind was I too young to manage, or would my past experience count as an advantage. I neatly pack it inside an envelope and address it before hobbling to the corner to post the application.
Two days later I get an email,

Dear Matthew Dale I am delighted to inform you that you are the new manager of Glacis Utd Fc. You must attend a meeting at 11:00 Am tomorrow.

I guess I would make it in football after all.

Pre-season results
http://i61.tinypic.com/s3zes9.jpg
The Verdict: I am disappointed with our pre-season performances. We only had one victory which was a disappointing game against our reserves in which we only one 1-0. We were then beaten by a 2nd division side in Britania xi and deservedly so. Our team did not seem to be gelling as we limped to a draw against Lions Pilots before the loss 1-0 against Sporting.

United thrash the devils

The game started off at a furious pace with Jerry Lopez narrowly missing a drilled shot after a fast counter attack after less than a minute. It was Glacis who took the lead 2 minutes later after Left Back Glen Gilbert curled the ball into the bottom corner after 3 minutes. Manchester were level after 18 minutes as Ballantine fed Kamara who carefully chipped Jordan Perez. 3 minutes later Manchester were ahead as Kamara snatched on a mistake by Kyle Moreno to drill the ball into the bottom corner. The lead lasted for 12 minutes before ex Manchester 62 striker Soithungsuk slotted the ball away. Just before half-time Nathan Green scored a screamer which Los Santos had no chance with to give Glacis the lead. Half Time Glacis 3-2 Manchester.

In the second half it was Glacis who continued to attack and Lavagna struck a volley just wide after a good cross by Green before 5 minutes later Green scored an easy tap in after 53 minutes to give Glacis a 4-2 lead. Lavagna again missed a chance to add to the lead after Al Paul Greene played an incisive ball through the Manchester defence. Manchester defender Jack Sergeant had a brilliant header disallowed for offside before 4 minutes later Lopez had his drilled goal disallowed again for offside after a flick on by Kamara. Late on the game began to fizzle out but with about ten minutes to go Sheppard rattled the bar before Lavagna shot miles wide from two yards out. Glacis fans celebrated an unexpected victory and their side did it in good style.

We spoke to man of the match Nathan Green after the game and he said that he was ‘proud of the team’s performance in the game. He knows that they haven’t been in good form over pre-season, myself included and that in what was expected to be a tight game he is delighted to claim victory.

Also Matthew Dale said ‘I can’t quite believe what I have just saw, I have been aggravated by our pre-season performances, so it is brilliant to get off to a winning start particularly against such a well fancied side and said that the team especially Nathan Green have done the fans proud and that he wanted to dedicate this victory to the fans who must have loved every minute.

When interviewed Alex Lopez said that he was ‘extremely disappointed with his team’s performance and I just hope that they can bounce back to challenge for a Europa League spot. Also I would like to say that Nathan Green looks like a promising player and I hope that Gibraltar will take notice’.

The victory leaves Glacis top but only as this was the first fixture of the new season and tomorrows fixtures could see teams overtake Glacis something Lincoln may well be expected to do.

The Phoenix is still in flames

It only took 8 minutes for Glacis to rattle the crossbar as Bear cut in from left wing but 16 minutes later it was 1-0 as Lavagna fired the ball into the top corner. Glacis continued to play sensational football and Soithongsuk smashed a header off the post after 30 minutes. Nathan Green had a long shot saved by Podesta after 39 minutes and Glacis extended their lead through Soithongsuk. Half time: Gibraltar Phoenix 0-2 Glacis United.

11 minutes after the second half started Al Paul Greene snatched on a Nathan Green cross to make it 3-0. Nathan Green always looked like a threat with his crosses and after 74 minutes Valorino headed the ball in from another one of his crosses. Lavagna hit the ball wide despite having a goal laid on by the flick on by Soithongsuk. Full time: Phoenix 0-4 Glacis.

Matthew Dale spoke to us after the match saying ‘I am delighted by how thorough that victory was and I felt the way we kept the ball was supremely impressive. We deserved the 4-0 victory but Phoenix were absolutely atrocious, I don’t think they had a real chance all game and although we won brilliantly we still need to Improve to compete with teams such as Lincoln'.

We also spoke to captain and man of the match Al Paul Greene who said ‘we were great out there and I hope we can carry on this good form and hopefully lift the trophy the fans deserve’.
