In the 1960s came the sky blue revolution led by famous manager Jimmy Hill. Within 6 years of Hill joining Coventry were a division 1 cup a status which they maintained 34 years which was at the time the 4th longest tenure in the league. They won their only major trophy in 1987 after a 3-2 extra time victory against Coventry in the FA Cup final.
However since 2001 the club has slipped after the plans for a state of the art national stadium fell through the Ricoh Arena was built to much lower specifications. The Ricoh proved to be a major problem for Coventry and after SISU saw Coventry relegated to League 1 they refused to pay the rent and were put into administration. SISU then moved Coventry City to Northampton causing the formation of Coventry United an amateur protest club and were allowed to buy the club by the Football League.
The History
Founded in 1883 as Singers Fc, they quickly rose to become one of the best teams in the West Midlands. They were renamed Coventry City because the city was so proud of their achievements however they went through a quiet spell soon after. In 1910 they broke out the spell by winning the Birmingham Senior Cup.
