My wife was catching up with the soaps from the week. Me? I was sat studying Football League rules. Only a week ago, a forum I frequent had been given the opportunity to apply for a place in the Skrill North. It was considered to be an experiment to see if gamers could use their knowledge in the real world. I laughed when I was first told about it, surely we'd never be considered?
A wry smile covered my face again when I thought about the likelihood of it happening. The smile soon faded when my phone broke the silence.

"Mike?"
"Alright Stam , how's it going" I replied. Stam was the founder of the said forum, FMscout.
"Are you at home? Put Sky Sports News on"

I grabbed the remote from the missus and switched over.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing!
"Mike, we've done it! We start on 1st July, next Monday. In fact, we've got a fixture against AFC Flyde on the 13th!"

After the phonecall had ended, I started a thread on the forum. I needed players and fast! Open trials would be held on the weekend of 29th/30th June at the Platt Lane complex. A lad called Lewis from my local offered to help assess the players. He had experience of managing the Boat and Horses Sunday team. It wasn't perfect but it was all I had!

In the offices after the trials, Lewis came upstairs with a rating for each player

Seems we had a good crop of players at our disposal, even if a couple did have ridiculous names!

Lewis and I sat down to discuss the starting line-up for the first match. After much deliberation, we picked the team we thought looked strong enough to start the game.

The first half started well, the lads knocked the ball around very well, managing 65% of possession in the first half. In the 41st minute, a poor tackle on Gerd forced the Left winger off the field with an injury, he was replaced by Sinteur. The 4th official held up the board to indicate 2 minutes of injury time. It was in these 2 minutes that disaster struck. A corner was floated to the back post and was met by Andy Russell's head to knock the ball inside the post. Heads instantly dropped. We needed to get the lads in the changing room and give them a talking to.

At half time we assertively told the lads that we expected nothing less than a win. We had the players, the ability and were 1-10 favourites before the game to do so.

We made wholesale changes on the hour mark yet we were still conceding chances; Flyde were well on top. I told the players to be more direct with their play and to play with a quicker tempo.

Lewis was losing faith but I knew we had one goal in us and boy was I right! In the 75th minute, Sinteur played a short pass to Fartingbottom who slid a through ball into the advancing Ivo Bendis who drilled the ball into the bottom corner! 1-1!

Flyde didn't stop though and won a corner in the 79th minute. The ball whipped and dipped into the box, Sinteur met the ball in the air though to head it clear. Disaster struck!! Sinteurs header flew in the wrong direction and found the inside on the near post... 1-2.

An 83rd minute injury to Ivo Bendis sealed the fate of the team. A 2-1 loss at home in our first game with 2 injuries too. Not the dream start we had hoped for.
Injury update

Erma Gerd - 5-6 weeks out with a pulled hamstring.
Timmy Ivo Bendis - 5-6 weeks out with a fractured arm.
Erma Gerd xD
Good luck :)
A great start to this story! Unlucky result against Flyde, but we just gotta keep our heads helt high! It's only pre season, the results will come! Which team did you replace in The Skrill North?
Could I get a ss of Tonning x2? :)
I can't remember who I replaced now. I feel bad for them for even admitting that! :(

Screenshot for Tonning.

It doesn't really matter, FMScout FC is the only team that matters here!
Thank you! Seems like an OK player thinking about the level... Looking forward to read more from you! Good luck! :)
FMScout FC v Frickley
20th July 2013

I opted to pick the team this time around. Lewis suggested a more attacking mentality with the instruction being to hassle the opposition into errors.

It took 2 minutes for the deadlock to be broken. Quick one-touch passing in the middle of the park between Pinkman and Harris resulted in the ball being played through to Boksic, whose delicate through ball to De La Cruz was met by an equally classy finish into the far corner. 1-0!

The game turned scrappy for the next 20 minutes. Frickley managed to test the keeper a couple of times to no avail. One of their efforts was turned away for a corner. From the resulting corner, the ball was played to the edge of the 6 yard box and was turned into the net by the Frickley forward. 1-1...

The players couldn't believe what was happening and it seemed to give them the kick up the a*se that they needed. Harris, who by the 28th minute was being booed at every tough for an earlier foul, played a delightful pass over the top to Fartingbottom who met the ball with his head to knock it past the advancing keeper and into the empty goal. 2-1!

The game turned nasty in the 35th minute when Pinkman went in late on the Frickley goalscorer Allott and got a straight Red card. Boksic was subbed off and replaced by Alejandro in midfield.

Frickley had the upperhand at the start of the second half and had a goal disallowed and rattled the woodwork in the first 10 minutes of the half. I decided to freshen the team and made my full number of substitutions. A few of the lads looked worn out after their efforts. The fresh legs seemed to work wonders and the team managed to hold on to earm FMScout FC their first ever victory!
Nice!
Erma Gerd's injured :'(
Can I see a ss of Arnie please, also great story so far!
