As I'm planning for the big site change that will eventually arrive before FM15 is released, I'd like to read what you have to say about improving the manager stories area. It's a place most of our active members are using on a daily basis, so I'm pretty sure you'll have quite a few ideas how we can make it easier to use and more appealing.

This is your chance to make your suggestions and I'll be considering each and every one of them. Please provide as much detail as you can to make your point(s) clear.

Looking forward to your ideas :)
Centre button please!
Being able to use a separate picture for your story, instead of having to keep changing your main profile picture
Have a button where you can choose headers, like what you've got with bold, italic, etc. Now you've got to copy the header code, or type it yourself. It's a small change, but it would make life easier!

Being able to preview the post more than once without having to cut, refresh and paste xD
Definitely a centre button! Also, make it clearer who's story it is and don't count the writer in the views thing if that is happening already
Tallery1164: writers count in views. I got bored and randomly refreshed my article and my views went up by one. It's like buying views for free. RESPECT
I personally like to see a limit on the number of stories that someone can have at any given time. This reason for this is that I feel people would put more effort into a story and would not get "bored" too easily and simply just keep starting brand new ones. With so many stories being around it can be very difficult to determine which one is someone's "live" story and which ones are ones we can ignore. I can understand if a file becomes corrupt that you can't carry on the story but I do feel that stories just seem to appear for the sake of it and then disappear into the abyss with no time being dedicated to a story. This can of course be counter balanced with, "well it's my story and my game so why can't I change my story?"

This is of course just my suggestion :)
Following on from James' suggestion: an option to delete your story if the save corrupts (which has happened to me regularly, much to James' annoyance i feel :P), because this would stop people having multiple stories which are defunct because of various reasons
Personally I'd like to see the file storage space changed a wee bit when it comes to writing your stories and you adding images, it'd be nice to have folders or make folders say for example, one with all your players in, one for all your results. It'd make it much much much more tidier when looking for things to add into your story other than scrolling down a huge list. Might just be me but it'd make things a little easier :)

Only a suggestion but might help a few people :P

I didn't add text alignment buttons as visible options to avoid the abuse because alignment tags are like the only ones that can break the site's layout if not used correctly. I'll reconsider if I find a way to auto-fix possible abuse.

Nick:

That's actually possible already but only moderators can set "avatars" for topics to avoid abuse (again). I might trial run this for regular members as well to see how it goes.

Agreed. The bbcode textarea needs to be improved.

NVDTahir:

I was never a fan of previewing since you can edit a post as many times as needed afterwards, but I'll see what I can do.

I like this one, but how would you go about making clear whose story it is?
By the way, writer's views are currently counted but I'll be looking to disable that.

Since stories are part of the forum, it would be unrealistic to set a limit for topics/stories one can start. I don't think having such limit would aid in making people stick to a story because they'd still start new stories and ask me to delete their old ones. I mean getting bored of a savegame is not something I can manipulate by a writing limit. Besides, if a story is not consistent it means it will disappear into the abyss - simple as that.

TodayAtTomorrow:

This works already, not directly though. People are asking me to delete their stories all the time. This is the only way for a story to get deleted; ask an admin to remove it by providing a good reason. Letting members delete their stories without admin's approval could lead to losing stories when people get angry for whatever reason and then regret it; and in that case I won't be able to bring back the story.

Having folders within your personal file space is already possible. You can find "Create new folder" on the left sidebar here or at the bottom of the popup window that appears when you click "My files" while writing an update. However, your PFS is not supposed to be used for hosting story screenshots because these will take up all of your allowed space fast. I recommend using free image hosting sites such as imgur.com for story screenshots. For player screenshots though, you may use our Social Scouting area for unlimited image uploads.
Making user able to tag updates as such. This would help make an index for the story. This could also help other users in reading the story as it could be used to filter the thread to only show updates.
Is there another way of getting the BB codes without going through new topic? I find it really annoying
A better ranking system of stories. Allowing users to upvote/like/recommend an update will make it easier to rank stories that people actually read. There will be vote for vote clutter, but it should even itself out.

The ranking of a story could be calculated as upvotes/likes/recommendations per update.
Slicker design
