Edgar Davids goes back to where his career began at Ajax as new manager

News from Holland has emerged that former Ajax, Inter and Barcelona midfielder Edgar Davids has returned to where he began his playing career at Ajax. Davids had recently left his post as manager of English Non-League side London who are based in North London.

Fans are excited to see the return of "The Pitball" but it will be interesting to see how he copes as a manager compared to player. He was well loved at Barnet FC after he improved their season dramatically despite being unable to keep them up. Fans were entertained by his posession based quick passing, but after a while; the tactics dried up.

The chairman of the club claims this move to help the club move forward and not as a publicity stunt to get a club legend back. "I have full confidence in his managerial ability, he demands respect and hard work to make his players fit and does demand a high level of expectation to his player performances"

Davids arrived at Ajax's training ground on 16th June 2013 to enter talks but finally after over two weeks of negotiating, the deal has been confirmed. However he has trained with the players for the past three days and asked the players to keep it quiet.

In the end, Davids agreed to a short term contract on a temporary basis and any point during the twelve month contract, it can be extended to a longer period of time. But Davids appears to just be focused on getting prepared for the upcoming Eredivisie season.

Davids told us during his press conference: "Coming back to Holland, but more importantly Amsterdam is an exciting thing for me, I've spent a few years living in London and of course managing in recent times, but to come back to the country where I grew up, I'm glad to be back"

"Ajax is a club in my opinion which is special to me," Davids continued, "They are the club who started my career and to come back to where it all began for me is a dream come true. Being a manager at a higher level than what I have before will be difficult and more challenging but I hope to thrive under that pressure and get some results and achievements for the club"
I always love a good Ajax story, good luck!

Ajax enter negotiations for New Zealand defender

Ajax enter talks with West Ham over centre back Winston Reid

Reports from the BBC and Sky Sports News sources in London say that an unnamed representative from Ajax has arrived at Stansted Airport and is to travel to East London to talk to West Ham directors over the possible transfer of central defender Winston Reid. The representative arrived yesterday and was seen leaving his hotel near Stansted and heading in towards London.

It is believed that they have already talked over the phone to Reid himself and has agreed personal terms but now need permission from West Ham to agree a fee. While these negotiations happen, a medical will take place at an unknown hospital on the outskirts of London.

Reid joined the London based club in 2010 from Danish club FC Midtjylland; and since joining has been a key player in West Ham's defence; and now fans are worried about the possibility of moving to Holland to play for Dutch Champions Ajax. But could the possibility of winning trophies temp the move to go through.

Ajax have released a statment saying: "We can confirm personal terms are completed, and the medical is set to be passed, once the fee is agreed; we can fly him over to Holland to unveil him as a signing but the paperwork needs to be sorted before anything else can happen.

"He is a strong and powerful defender.." Davids claimed, "we need someone like him who can win the ball, win the headers, and be solid to stop the opposition scoring goals. When I was at Barnet, I had a six foot four defender in David Stephens, and he won header, won the ball and was just a solid player. But I think Reid can do that for us at Ajax but better"
