What is this?
This is an idea I have been developing for a while, in which twelve forum members (it could be YOU) sign up and choose a Manchester United player. You can develop that player throughout the one season running time of this game, but you'll have to use not only your footballing knowledge to survive and win the ultimate prize of bragging rights and two player graphics of your choice made for you by yours truly, but you also need to have social strategy. After all, popularity is important, right? How will this work?
12 people sign up, and as there are 10 months of the Premier League season, you will choose to be one of the below Manchester United players - the list will be at the bottom of this post. When you sign up, I will PM you with three cards with things you can do with your player throughout the season. This includes improving one of your attributes by five, adding another position of your choice or the chance to have a fellow Manchester United player who hasn't been chosen by a forum member's contract terminated. You can use these at any time during the season as long as you are still in the competition by PMing me.
Then, this will work in a certain way. At the end of the pre-season, the player with the highest average rating will get to nominate two fellow players who have been chosen by a forum member for the elimination. This person will be called the Pre-Season Supreme. Then, a football quiz style competition will take place between the Supreme, the two nominees and three randomly chosen people, where the winner will hold the Elimination Embargo, where they can remove one of the two nominees from the elimination place. Then, if they decide to do that, the Supreme will have to name another nominee for the elimination. Then all of the players other than the Supreme and the two nominees will get to vote for who they want to see eliminated.
This will happen until three remain. Then there will be one April Supreme, one May Supreme and one overall Supreme from the two. The Overall Supreme will choose who they want to see eliminated at that moment, leaving two players but only one winner.
This is where some of the previously eliminated players will join in. From 9th place to 3rd place, the Board will form. Each of them will privately state which of the remaining two they want to see win. The player with the most votes out of seven will be crowned Manchester United's Greatest Star.
Other Game Facts
If you become a Supreme for the month, or if you win the Elimination Embargo competition, you will be given another card. You also get a card for every international appearance you make.If you would like to, you may post in this thread as the player you have chosen, because I know for some (the one who picks Wayne Rooney, in particular...) roleplaying as your player could create a better game atmosphere, although for others you may not wish to do so, and that's fine too.
It may help you to create deals with other people, for instance, a deal with two other players in which you save each other against other people. This could make the difference between 12th and 1st.
Not-So Frequently Asked Questions
Why Manchester United? Well, first of all, they have won the most Premier League titles out of any other club, and second of all, I let the randomiser decide. What if one of the Board doesn't vote? If they don't vote after 24 hours, I will go to 10th place to give the last vote. If several don't vote and it leads to no more players left, I'll make the Board a Board of five instead.
What if one of the Elimination Embargo players doesn't show up? I will draft in a replacement if they're a nominee. If they're a randomly chosen player, I will randomly select another that will be active at the chosen time. I will try my best to have the best Elimination Embargo challenge times for everyone because I understand that some Americans don't want to get up at 6am their time to do a competition, for example.
What update are you using? Simply so this is completely up to date, I will be using Steve85's 2014 Transfer Update, meaning that players like Herrera and Shaw will be in their team.
Another AlexTHFC sign-up, really? Yes, really. But this doesn't take as much effort to run as other sign-ups have done. In several other sign-ups, I've had to do a lot of editing, taking endless screenshots, etc. But in this, I do the occasional screenshot if required, find some football questions and try to get people to be active. This is the last time I will do an FM14 sign-up if it fails, which I'm confident about it not doing.
