Tigers continue to add to squad ahead of Europa League campaign

Utilizing the loan market: Hatem Ben Arfa arrived yesterday on loan from fellow Barclays Premier League club Newcastle United.

Hull City manager Steve Bruce has been very active in the transfer market so far this summer, and has added a total of nine players to his side permanently, with another two joining on loan from Premier League clubs.

One position which Bruce had looked to strengthen was the defence, with four of the eleven transfers adding to the depth of the back line.

One of the most high profile defensive arrivals was Tottenham Hotspurs' Michael Dawson who, after falling out of favour with new manager Mauricio Pochettino at White Hart Lane was sold to the club for £3.5 million. With the Argentinian boss signing Federico Fazio from Sevilla, there was little chance of holding down a first team spot for the long serving English defender.

The other defensive players coming to the KC Stadium are Scottish international Andrew Robertson who joins from Dundee United, highly rated English youngster Harry Maguire and promising Cork City fullback Brian Lenihan.

The club also made the most of the loan market this summer, bringing in Newcastle United midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa until the end of the season and tying up a deal which sees Uruguay international Gaston Ramirez kept at the club for the same length of time.

Hull City haven't just bought, however, and have let two players who would normally be considered important members of the squad leave to divisional rivals.

Shane Long left for Southampton F.C. who are looking to rebuild following a summer full of sales for a fee of £12 million, while Scotsman George Boyd was sold to newly promoted Burnley.

Other players to arrive in Hull this summer are Jake Livermore, Thomas Ince, Mohamed Diame, Robert Snodgrass and Abel Hernandez - the club broke their transfer record to buy the Uruguayan from Italian side Palermo.
Nice club to choose, with some great signings this summer (Dawson!). Good luck bud :)
Nice intro, good luck mate! B)
Good luck!

Bruce: Player wage demands 'ridiculous'

Hull City manager Steve Bruce has criticized the wage demands of players in modern football, labelling it as 'ridiculous'.

Bruce was left 'confused' after talks broke down with several strikers who have not been named by Bruce or Hull chairman Assem Allam, believed to be Asamoah Gyan and Andriy Voronin, previously of Sunderland and Liverpool respectively.

After an agreement had been reached over a transfer fee between Hull City and the club(s) in question, 53-year-old Bruce was in shock at the amount of money that the players were asking for.

"We've been looking to add a few more additions - you know, we're in Europe this season and we are going to be taking that seriously, and if that means adding more quality to the squad at a cost then so be it.

So I had a look around at a few players, I'm not going to name them because Hull City is too much of a respectable club to call out players in these situations, but yes, we took a look at a couple of strikers, which is the main area I want to improve, despite signing Abel (Hernandez) earlier this week from Palermo.

I had a couple of offers accepted and then it was time to meet the player to talk about contracts. I was expecting it to be very straightforward, something I've become so accustomed to so far in my managerial career.

But it was ridiculous. The players in question were asking for over £100,000 per week. No disrespect, but I was completely confused - you've got better players than them on less!

We're still in the market for a striker, but if I have to deal with any other ludicrous requests, I think we may just settle with what we've got."
Ridiculous wages for those players, I'm glad Bruce is smart enough to reject ;)
£100,000?!?!? What do they expect, it's Hull :P
Lmao 100,000 Good begining
Well written and since City is my second team i'll certainly be following this with interest... keep it up :)
Good luck mate, hopefully you can take hull to greatness!

Search for striker finally over as Villa's Weimann signs for Hull

Hull City are delighted to announce that Aston Villa's Andreas Weimann has signed a three year contract with The Tigers.

The Austrian international ends Steve Bruce's long quest for a striker, with the Hull boss growing increasingly impatient with wage demands, something which he was more than happy to talk about in public earlier in the week.

Hull may have their new man but are the supporters as optimistic about the arrival of the 21-year-old as their manager?

The general reaction from the Hull City supporters has been good, with many directing praise at 53-year-old Bruce for taking a chance with a younger player.

Weimann, who has featured six times for the Austrian national team was a familiar face in the Aston Villa lineup last season, making a total of thirty league appearances.

Bruce passed up the chance to sign experienced players in order to sign Weimann, with Sky Sports reporting that both Asamoah Gyan and Andriy Voronin were turned away due to their wage demands, which Bruce described as 'ridiculous'.

"I'm thrilled that we've finally been able to find someone with real talent who doesn't want to be paid well over the odds. Andi knows the Premier League well, and is still very young - I will be looking to use him a lot this season, and am confident that he will be a great addition to this squad who I believe can have a strong run in Europe this season."

Weimann will join up with the rest of the squad and is likely to play in tomorrow's friendly against Feyenoord.
Great signing Weimann is premiership ready! He looks fabulous in that Hull kit ;)

Hull wrap up two more deals as squad looks to shape up before new season

Barclays Premier League side Hull City have announced the signing of La Liga duo Carlos Kameni and Nacho.

Steve Bruce is adamant that there will be no more arrivals at the KC Stadium before the end of the transfer window following these two deals, and is confident that his team is ready to compete in both the Barclays Premier League and the UEFA Europa League for the first time in the club's history.

Cameroonian goalkeeper Carlos Kameni signs from Málaga CF and is likely to take over from Scottish shot stopper Allan McGregor.

During his time at Málaga he often played second fiddle to Willy Caballero, but prior to his move to Malaga, he was a regular at Espanyol. Kameni has also made 70 appearances for Cameroon at senior level, representing them at two FIFA World Cups and five Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

The 29-year-old, whose old brother also represented Cameroon on three occasions, began his career at French club Le Havre, before moving to Espanyol in 2004. He went on to make over 200 league appearances for the Spanish club before being moved on to Málaga CF in 2012.

Bruce, 53, has declared himself excited at the experience which Kameni brings to the side. The goalkeeper arrives in the Barclays Premier League for £2 million, as he entered the last year of his contract in Spain.

Meanwhile Spanish defender Nacho has also joined The Tigers from Spanish giants and UEFA Champions League holders Real Madrid.

The 23-year-old struggled to break into the first team, with the likes of Pepe and Sergio Ramos well ahead of him in the pecking order, although big things were expected of the player, who can also play as a fullback.

Coming through the Real Madrid youth setup - one which has produced the likes Iker Casillas, Raúl and Manchester United's Juan Mata - the future was bright for José Ignacio Fernández Iglesias, who was born in Madrid.

He is likely to be a regular member of the Hull first team squad, and credits Hull's involvement in the UEFA Europa League as his main reason to swap the sunny climates of Spain for the Yorkshire Dales.

He joins Hull City for a fee of £3 million.
