Neil Warnock leaves Crystal Palace ahead of season

Manager Neil Warnock has left Crystal Palace by mutual consent before the start of the new season

The 66-year-old had once managed at Crystal Palace, before departing for Q.P.R and ultimately sacked on 8 January 2012 after the 1–2 home defeat to Norwich City on 2 January 2012.

He returned for a second spell, before surprisingly departing before the season started. The reasons for his departure are currently still unknown.

Bookmakers have placed former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood as the odds on favorite to take the job, other names such as Paolo di Canio and Malky Mackay have also been mentioned.

Palace have done some transfer business this season, signing Liverpool full-back Martin Kelly, while striker Fraizer Campbell arrived from Cardiff for £900,000 and former Fulham centre-back Brede Hangeland have joined on a free, while defender Zeki Fryers and midfielder James McArthur also joins after much speculation.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish will have to act fast, or he might again see his club deep in a relegation battle again.
Nice start and good luck!

The 38-year-old, who sent in an application containing a CV of no previous coaching experience, no coaching badges earned, no past successful career of international or even professional football, shocks fans and supporters alike by being appointed as the new Crystal Palace manager.

More details will be released in a press conference later on in the week.

Good afternoon and welcome to everyone. I assume you people already know why we're here, to unveil the new manager for Crystal Palace F.C, which of whom you don't know nothing about. Now, i will let Daniels talk and then you're obliged to ask any questions.

Good afternoon, my name is Trevor Daniels. I am 37 years old from England and i am the new manager of Crystal Palace F.C. First of all i would like to thank Mr. Parish here and everyone at the board for giving me this wonderous oppotunity. I could have never dreamed of this chance and will do my utmost to please the board and the fans. Last but not least, call me Trevor.

James Ward here, from London Evening Standard. How do you feel about your appointment?

Ecstatic, i couldn't be more happier. At this very young age I am already the head coach of a great club with great history, and I will not disappoint.

Craig Davies, BBC London 94.9. Do you think that you're capable enough of running a prestigious club such as Crystal Palace?

Yes. Even though i have no managerial experience and no past playing history, i do feel that reputation is not something that you look for in a manager. I am fully capable in my ability, and I will improve my coaching and managing skills as we go, and will do every action in the club's best interests.

Lee Armstrong from MailOnline, how has the fans reacted in light of your appointment?

Shocked, of course, and it is completely understandable. It's very surprising if a football team that you support appoint a complete unknown. Some of them at social media basically asked me who i am. But the fans here are loyal enough to believe in me, as I am also one of them. A fan. I am capable of connecting with them and I believe that the fans have hope in me to succeed.

Paul Keen, reporting for The Daily Mirror. What are your current goals for the club?

This season, i want to achieve a safe place in the Premier League. Then for the next few years, deliver consistent finishes in secure places while building the team for our inevitable successful future. Safety's first though, and staying up might take a lot of work, but I know that the players here are more than capable of achieving this goal.

We only have time for one more question. After this we'll be on our way.

David Teague, here for BBC Radio 5 Live. Speaking of players, do you have an idea of who will stay and who will go?

I've assessed the squad and I will talk to them first before making any conclusions. I feel departures and signings are inevitable, i guess we'll see in the future.

That's all the time we have for Mr. Daniels. Thank you and good afternoon.

The Squad

Goalkeepers

Sadly, club legend Julian Speroni has requested a move due to being "homesick". Ironically he moved to another English club in the form of Stoke City, who got him for £550 K, and thus, current Wales international Wayne Hennessey will take the mantle for No.1 goalkeeper. A backup is imminent, and i have one arriving soon.

Defenders

I will play a simple back four in my team. We managed to fend off interest from Southampton and Hull for Joel Ward and managed to get him to sign an extension, which is good news.
Martin Kelly will battle him for the right-back spot.
Zeki Fryers is our only natural left-back, so we need another one ASAP.
Damien Delaney will be a great backup for our center-back position, with the first choices being Brede Hangeland, and Scott Dann. Sadly that is the only quality center-backs we have, with Paddy McCarthy, whom i've sent on loan to Sheff Utd, Peter Ramage, and Adrian Mariappa being placed on the transfer list.

Defensive/Central/Attacking Midfielders

There will be 3 center midfielders, with 1 dropping back into a defensive midfielder position, and who better to fill in that position than Mile Jedinak. The statitical monster and dangerous defensive midfielder with play behind the 2 center midfielders, prederably being Joe Ledley and James McArthur.
Jonny Williams, one of the most promising midfielders to come from the academy, provides a different option, while Barry Bannan is a solid backup and/or rotation player. Adlene Guediora will be moved out being surplus to requirements.

Wingers

Jason Puncheon did good under Pulis, and i hope he does as well with me, while we all know what Wilfried Zaha is capable of.
I sold Yannick Bolasie to Leicester for £ 8 millon + add ons, which was a bit of a stupid decision as we don't have any left wingers currently in my 1st team. I need to get one quick.

Strikers

Marouane Chamakh will be sold due to him aging, and i want to get a younger backup to my first-choice striker, Dwight Gayle. The lad did well on his 1st season at the Premier League, scoring 7 goals in 23 games, and will rotate with Fraizer Campbell for the lone striker position.

Overview

The squad needs some work, particularly on the left side of the field. A left-back, a left-winger, a backup defensive midfielder and a striker are positions that i need to invest in, while a goalkeeper to challenge Hennessey is also a priority, but with a little bit of money and a little bit of quality, we can stay up, maybe do even better.

Transfers

In

Tolgay Arslan (DM) £2.8 M

Out

Total : £12.000.000

Profit/Loss : £1.800.000

I am glad that the transfer activities has ended...for now. I was a bit frustrated, as some of the players i originally intended to bring in had problems, but I am happy with ones i got. 9 players in, might look like a bit of "quantity over quality" but I can assure you that everybody here will play their part and be great players now, and the future.
For the departures, Bolasie, Speroni, and Chamakh are the only significant ones, with Speroni leaving causing a bit of a dissapointment with the fans. I didn't want to let him go, he wanted to leave and i seeing as he was already old I had no choice.
Overall, a loss of £1.8 M wasn't too bad, we strengthened the depth of the squad. I could be looking for another striker to compensate for Chamakh's departure, we'll see later on.
