Uruguay comfortably dispatched Australia at the MCG, where a slightly smaller crowd of 44,000 watched their country take on another formidable opponent. Uruguay's finishing was below par for most of the game, however once Edinson Cavani was given room his aim was true.

Emiliano Velazquez opened the accounts for Uruguay, with a headed goal from the corner situation in the 35th minute. Edinson Cavani made some room for himself and scored 5 minutes later, adding another from the kick off to make it 3-0 at half time. Walter Gargano put the icing on the cake after half time but Australia did manage to muster one opportunity. Matt McKay, lurking on the edge of the box, received the ball and more in hope than anything took a shot, landing it past Martin Silva and giving his nation a consolation goal.

Daniel De Silva's reign as Australia's youngest ever player has lasted mere months as injuries played a hand in Panos Armenakas' call up to the squad against Uruguay. The Udinese youngster came on in the 70th minute at the tender age of 16 years 105 days, smashing De Silva by over a year.

Touted as one of the nation's brightest prospects, the American born Armenakas is currently employed by Serie A club Udinese. Also eligible for Greece and the United States, Postecoglou has reportedly rushed him into the side to secure him for the future but the 16 year old seems a fine player already. Armenakas seemed to be unaffected by the pressure at the MCG, playing with distinction in the final 20 minutes of the game and playing a part in Australia's late goal. Alongside De Silva and Massimo Luongo, Armenakas looks to be the future of the Australian midfield and although he might not feature again for a while, he is definitely on the radar of Australian fans.

He's a gun mate worth securing.
