So in comparison with the majority of people on this site, I'm relatively new and inexperienced when it comes to Football Manager, so I thought to myself: why not start in the deep end?
Having found an in-game add-on that some beautiful man (or woman) kindly made, I've been able to implement more leagues into the English footballing pyramid, ranging from the dazzling bright lights with all the stars of the Premier League, to the nitty-gritty 9th tier of Counties Leagues. And, it just so happens, that my home town has a team at the very bottom of this structure.
They go by the name of Glossop North End. If I was to give you a brief history then I'd tell you that that Glossop is the smallest town to ever have a team in the Football League, and the top flight of English football. Not only that, but GNE were also owned by Samuel Hill-Wood in the early 1900's, a man who was later Chairman of the historic Arsenal FC. It's also been suggested, that Glossop North End were the first team to ever be registered as playing in an all white kit, in 1907- long before the likes of Real Madrid! More recently, the club lost out in the final of the FA Vase, 2-0 to Whitley Bay, but have generally stayed in the lower leagues with little progression since.
So, the point of all this? I'm going to attempt to bring my beloved home town club, out of the North West Counties League, and well, let's not get ahead of ourselves- we'll just see how far we can get shall we?
It's sure to be an interesting ride, so I hope you'll join me for The Great Escape- GNE Edition! Come and cheer on the lads from Surrey Street!
