Its been a decade since the Glazers takeover of Manchester United caused a splinter club to be formed, FC United of Manchester.
Manchester United supporters had previously considered forming a new club in response to a proposed takeover by Rupert Murdoch in 1998, but the takeover bid was unsuccessful so the idea was not implemented. When it was announced that Glazer was considering taking over the club, the idea was brought up again as a possible "last resort" and discussed in Manchester United fanzines including Red Issue and United We Stand.
The club was finally founded in the 14th June 2005, starting out in the North West Counties League Division Two.
After years of working their way up the lower leagues, the fan owned club are now making a push for the football league.
Long term manager Karl Marginson has moved aside after leading the club to the Conference North, and the club has been taken over by Manchester local and estranged Manchester United fan, Jason Waterfalls.
His dream, to bring FC United up to the top level of English football, and eclipse Man Utd and Man City as the top team in Manchester.
Its one hell of a dream, but is it an achievable one?
