Rudi Garcia Leaving Roma

http://static.goal.com/287300/287390_heroa.jpg

Shocking news has come out of the AS Roma camp as it has been announced that Rudi Garcia will be leaving his role as head coach of AS Roma, effective immediately. The club have confirmed that Garcia's departure is via. mutual consent and that no disagreements or arguments have led to Garcia's departure.

Garcia joined Roma in June 2013, following on in the footsteps of Zden?k Zeman and Aurelio Andreazzoli, who became caretaker manager after Zeman was relieved of his duties managing Roma. News of Garcia's appointment was initially received very cautiously by Roma fans.

Roma began the 2013–14 season by winning its first ten Serie A matches. The previous, best ever start in the history of the Serie A belonged to Juventus in the 2005–06 season, when the Turin club won its first nine Serie A matches. Roma's perfect start to the 2013–14 Serie A season included a 2–0 derby win over city rivals Lazio, a 3–0 away victory against Internazionale and a 2–0 home win over Serie A title rivals Napoli.

During this 10-match winning run, Roma scored 24 goals while conceding just one goal, away to Parma. Its Serie A 10-match winning streak came to an end on 3 Nov 2013 when it was held to a 1-1 draw at Torino. During that match, Roma conceded its first goal in 743 minutes of Serie A football. Roma, however, eventually finished 2nd in the 2013–14 Serie A, a massive 17 points behind Juventus. In finishing second, Roma qualified for the Champions League for the first time since 2010.

Roma has had an impressive summer transfers activity thanks to Garcia, where they bought young talent Juan Iturbe, Salih Ucan and Antonio Sanabria. Roma also signed Italian defender Davide Astori and veteran players like Ashley Cole and Seydou Keita after Garcia asked to bring in young talents and also experienced players for squad depth ahead of the next season.

Garcia's departure has confused quite a lot of Roma's supporters, who have been left wondering why the manager would leave and who would replace him.
Very good Club with a poor set of fans, wondering who you'll pick for their next manager :P Good Luck LORDStar!

Luciano Spalletti Returns to Roma

http://cdn.forzaitalianfootball.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Luciano-Spalletti..jpg

After finishing his five-year stint as Zenit St. Petersburg manager, Luciano Spallett is set to make his return to Italian football by joining his previous club, AS Roma, on a two-year deal after their previous boss, Rudi Garcia, resigned from his role as head coach.

Spalletti originally joined Roma in 2005, after the club finished a disappointing season under the management of four different coaches. Spalletti was offered the task of attempting to bring order to this chaotic side.

After an uninspiring first half of the 2005–06 season, he changed the team's tactics to attacking rather than defensive, but starting playing without any real striker (with an attacking midfielder as striker). On 26 February 2006, Roma broke the Serie A record for consecutive wins (11) with a 2–0 victory over Lazio. However, by the end of the season, Roma failed to reach 4th place, therefore failing to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Spalletti also took Roma into the Coppa Italia final against Inter during the 2005–06 season but lost. However, Roma qualified for the 2006–07 UEFA Champions League, since Juventus was relegated and Fiorentina and A.C. Milan received point deductions, all as a result of the Serie A match-fixing scandal.

Spalletti's favoured formation is the 4–2–3–1 system, where he uses 4 defenders, 2 defensive midfielders, 2 wingers (both sides of the 3), 1 attacking midfielder, and 1 striker (Francesco Totti, another attacking midfielder, or without any real striker). This system proved effective upon its introduction during the 2005–06 season for Roma.

As a result, the team climbed from 15th place in the table to 5th by the end of the season. During that time, Roma also went on an 11-match winning streak. At the end of 2006, Spalletti was elected Serie A Coach of the Year and, in the following months, led Roma until the Champions League quarter-final after a 2–0 victory over Lyon at the Stade Gerland in the first knockout round. The team, however, succeeded in becoming the first team to defeat Roberto Mancini's Internazionale in all competitions that year, emerging with a 1–3 result at the San Siro, a match that the Nerazzurri had to win to mathematically claim the 2007 Scudetto against the only credible rival they had in the championship.

Roma would also win the Coppa Italia against Inter, with an aggregate result of 7–4; a resounding 6–2 in the first leg in Rome and followed by a narrow 2–1 defeat in Milan. It was the first important trophy in Spalletti's career, who only had won a Coppa Italia di Serie C with Empoli. But he was yet to add another piece of silverware to his cabinet, as Roma would again defeat Inter 0–1 in Milan in the 2007–08 to steal their Supercoppa Italiana crown.

n the 2007–08 Champions League first knockout round, Spalletti's Roma team became the first Italian team to defeat Real Madrid over two legs (2–1 in both ties in Rome and Madrid) and consequently also became the first European side to record two victories over Real Madrid in their Santiago Bernabéu home ground. In a repeat of the previous season's quarter final, Roma were again eliminated from the Champions League by eventual winners Manchester United.

They did, however, succeed in their defence of the Coppa Italia, once again defeating Scudetto winners Inter in the final — a single match which Roma won 2–1. In the 2008–09 season, Spalletti faced a very difficult season with Roma. At the end of the season, the team only managed to qualify for the Europa League with a 6th-place position in the league, after a very struggling initial period that left the giallorossi in the bottom half of the league for the first part of the Serie A season.

The new season saw Spalletti struggling with a limited squad, that was weakened further by the sale of Alberto Aquilani to Liverpool, and compounded by serious financial problems for the club. Roma started the season by taking part in two 2009–10 UEFA Europa League qualifying rounds, both easily won against Gent (10–2 on aggregate) and Košice (10–4 on aggregate); however, another poor start in the 2009–10 Serie A season, with two consecutive defeats (2–3 to Genoa and 1–3, at home, to Juventus) persuaded Spalletti to resign on 1 September 2009.

Fans are hoping that Spalletti brings back the glory days the club once had with him, make the men from the capital into kings and how to depose the men from Turin.
excellent updates as usual! great start!
InfraRed : Thanks! I try my hardest!

Darmian makes move to Rome

Luciano Spalletti has made his first official signing of the summer transfer window, bringing in Italian right-back Matteo Darmian from Serie A side Torino for the fee of £6 million pounds.

Darmian started playing football with Carcor, an amateur club based in Rescaldina, whose coach, was his father Giovanni. In 2000, he joined A.C. Milan's youth system. He made his first-team debut for the Rossoneri on 28 November 2006, aged only 16, in Coppa Italia against Brescia, replacing Kakha Kaladze at half-time. Six months later, on 19 May 2007, he made also his Serie A debut in a match against Udinese, coming off the bench late in the second half. During the 2007–08 season he became the leader and captain of the A.C. Milan Primavera, collecting another appearance for the first-team in Coppa Italia. The following season, the 19-year-old defender collected an additional three league appearances.

On 11 July 2010 it was announced that Matteo Darmian would join Palermo's pre-season training camp in Austria, after Milan and the Sicilians agreed in principle about a transfer move involving him. The move, unveiled as a co-ownership bid, was officially announced by Palermo the next day. The fee was €800,000. Darmian made his debut for the rosanero on 16 September 2010 in a Europa League game against Sparta Prague (2–3), which also earned him his debut in European competition. His Palermo debut in Serie A was during the fourth game of the league, substituting Javier Pastore in a 3–1 win against Juventus. On 6 February 2011 he played his first game as a starter in the league away at Lecce (4–2), but was substituted at 33' due to injury. He finished the season with 16 appearances among Serie A, Europa League and Coppa Italia.

On 23 June 2011 Milan and Palermo renewed Darmian's co-ownership and on 12 July he was officially loaned to Torino in Serie B. He made his debut for the Granata on 13 August 2011 in the second round of Coppa Italia; won 1–0 against Lumezzane and scored his first goal on 30 October against Empoli (2–1). On 13 November Darmian suffered a muscle lesion against Bari and consequently sidelined for five games. He concluded 2011–12 Serie B season with 33 appearances and one goal, as Torino achieved promotion.

On 20 June 2012 Palermo redeemed his 50% share from Milan for €500,000 and on 5 July, Darmian's return to Torino was formulised under a new co-ownership agreement for a fee of €825,000. Darmian made 32 appearances for Torino in the 2012–13 Serie A season and two in Coppa Italia. On 20 June 2013 Torino redeemed the remainder of his contract from Palermo.

In the 2013–14 Serie A Darmian enjoyed a breakthrough season in an overachieving Torino side that finished 7th and qualified for the Europa League. For his performance, he was awarded Serie A's "Right-Back of The Year" at the Gran Galà del calcio on 15 December 2014. He featured 38 times in all competitions for Torino and made his 100th league appearance for the club on 18 May 2014, a 2–2 draw away to Fiorentina.

On 7 August 2014, his first appearance of the 2014–15 season, Darmian scored his first goal in European competition against Sweden's Brommapojkarna, valid for the second leg of the 2014–15 Europa League third qualifying round, won 4–0 in Turin (7–0 on agg.). On 29 October Darmian scored his first goal in Serie A to secure a 1–0 victory over Parma. He returned to the score-sheet in the final match of the Europa League group stage against Copenhagen, 1–5 in favour of Torino.

After playing for Italy at under-17 and under-18 levels, he was called up to the under-19, led by Francesco Rocca in July 2008. At the UEFA European U-19 Championship he played a starter, always in the role of a right full-back. In 2009, he took part in the Mediterranean Games, playing seven games with the Italy under-20. On 25 March 2009, he made his debut with the Italy U-21 in a friendly match against Austria (2–2), played in Vienna. From 10 to 12 March 2014, he was called up to the senior national team by coach Cesare Prandelli as part of an internship to evaluate young players ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, confirmed on the next meeting between 14 and 15 April.

Given his excellent season with Torino, on 13 May 2014, he was included in the list of 30 provisional players for the 2014 World Cup. He made his debut for the Azzurri on 31 May 2014, at age 24, playing as a right-back in a friendly match with Ireland (0–0) held in London. The following day, he was included in the list of 23 players selected for the World Cup. On 14 June, he made his debut at the World Cup, playing as a starter in Italy's opening game against England, won 2–1. He also played the next two games against Costa Rica and Uruguay, both lost 1–0 with Italy failing to qualify for the next round. In early 2015 he was awarded with the Pallone Azzurro as the best player of the national team for 2014.

Although he started his career as a centre-back, in recent years Darmian has played as a dynamic fullback on either flank; although he prefers the right. He is known for his good quality of offensive and defensive play, his tactical awareness, his pace, and his stamina, attributes which have led him to be compared to legendary Italian fullback Antonio Cabrini. In 2012–13, Darmian made the most tackles per game (5.3) across Europe's top five leagues.

Sebastian Sosa heads to Italy

http://www.debolapramoda.com.br/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Sebastian-Sosa-Reprodu%C3%A7%C3%A3o.jpg

Luciano Spalletti's second summer signing has turned out to be Sebastián Sosa, the Uruguayan goalkeeper from Vélez Sársfield in the Argentine Primera División. The total paid for the Uruguayan goalkeeper adds up to the total of £2 million pounds.

Sosa made his debut for Peñarol in 2007. In 2008, he was loaned to Central Español, where he played 28 games in two years, before returning to Peñarol.

Upon his return, Sosa was the second choice goalkeeper behind former Argentine international Pablo Cavallero, until coach Julio Ribas chose him for the starting eleven of Peñarol for the 2009–10 Uruguayan Primera División season. During that season, Sosa helped Peñarol to win the league title. Afterwards, Sosa was a regular in the Peñarol team that also reached the final of the 2011 Copa Libertadores (where his team was defeated by Santos.

In July 2011, the Uruguayan goalkeeper signed for Argentine giants Boca Juniors. During his one year stay at Boca, Sosa was mostly a substitute for Agustín Orión, but won with the team the 2011 Apertura and the 2011–12 Copa Argentina.

Subsequently, Sosa joined Vélez Sársfield also of Argentina. There he again the second choice goalkeeper (behind Germán Montoya) at first, but then became a regular starter and played 9 games in his team's 2012 Inicial winning campaign.
Very nice updates! Love the detail. Go on and break that Juventus domination!
Titus07 : Don't worry! I will break the mold!
I love the banner, and Darmian is one of my favorite fullbacks in FM - great signing!
Icarus : Thanks! The banner is indeed awesome, as is Darmian.

Spalletti clears out Roma's deadwood

With two men walking into Rome with their heads held high, proud to be a part of the prestigious club that is AS Roma, two men have found themselves leaving the club, heads low in shame as they head through the gates of Rome into the unknown abyss that awaits them.

The first man to be leaving is Maicon Sisenando, the Brazilian right back, who will be leaving Italy for new pastures in France, joining French giants Paris Saint-Germain for a fee of £1.1 million pounds. Maicon joined Roma on 18 July 2013, after Manchester City allowed him to move on a free transfer. He made his debut against Livorno on 25 August 2013. Maicon debuted for Cruzeiro in 2001 and after two successful seasons in Brazil, which included winning a championship and being called up for the Brazilian national team in 2003, he was signed by French club AS Monaco in June 2004 for £2.1 million.

In July 2006, Internazionale of Italy officially announced the signing of Maicon for a fee of £4.8 million and a five-year contract, along with fellow Brazilian fullback Maxwell and French midfielder Olivier Dacourt. During his time at Inter, he established himself as a reliable wing-back, solid defensively with an ability of making emphatic runs down the right wing, often setting up goals or scoring himself with his powerful right foot. On 31 August 2012, Maicon signed for Manchester City for £3 million and wore the number 3 shirt. Maicon made his debut on 15 September, in a 1–1 draw against Stoke City.

The second man to be leaving is none other than back-up goalkeeper Bogdan Lobon?, who leaves the club to join Vitesse on a season-long loan. Roma signed Lobon? on a free loan from Dinamo Bucure?ti, with an option for the Italian team to buy him at the end of the season. He made his first appearance for the Giallorossi on 4 October, coming off the bench after 23 minutes in a game against Napoli. Because of Stekelenburg's injury he was temporary first goalkeeper in 4 matches in season 2011–12. On 4 March 2012, he came on against Lazio because of Stekelenburg's red card. So far he played 17 matches in Serie A for Roma.

Lobon? has played an important part of the Romanian national team, earning over 80 caps, his first being in 1998. He was part of his country's UEFA Euro 2000 and UEFA Euro 2008 squads. He turned in a particularly strong performance in Romania's group stage game in Euro 2008 against world champions Italy, saving numerous well-placed shots and keeping his team's tournament hopes alive with a 1–1 draw.

Lobon? has been popularly nicknamed "Pisica" (The Cat) in Romania due to his quick reflexes, compared to that of a cat.

Both men have made way for Matteo Darmian, who will take Maicon's right-back spot, and Sebastian Sosa, who will take Lobon?'s goalkeeper spot.
Maicon :( everytime I look for a strong RB I look for one with stats that remind me of him....

Key Players

AS Roma's vice-captain, the warrior in the midfield, the Italian defensive maestro that is known to the world as Daniele De Rossi. He was born in Rome and has played for the club for over a decade. He is known for his tackling, vision, awareness, passing, strength, and goal scoring ability. A tenacious and technical player, he has been praised for his leadership, ball skills, stamina, aerial ability, powerful long distance shooting, and set-piece taking. Not many Roma fans can imagine a Roman midfield without De Rossi, and that is why he is key to the team.

http://paisleygates.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/MiralemPjanicInterest.jpg

Another one of AS Roma's midfield maestros goes by the name of Miralem Pjanic. The Bosnian playmaker stayed at the club over the summer, despite serious interest from larger, more reputable clubs surrounding him. He can play as the playmaker or as the box to box player but he is definitely better placed to operate in the former role, he has the potential to be the king of Roma's midfield for years into the future.

http://www.calcio-italia.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/totti2.jpg

Francesco Totti is Mr Roma. He has been with the club for his entire career and he is one of the most inspirational figures in the club’s history. It doesn’t matter that he is 37 going on 38 he is still a key player in the eyes of the fans. Totti has predominantly played as an offensive-midfield playmaker, or as a supporting or deep-lying forward, behind the main striker; only in the later years of his Roma career was he mainly employed in the role of a main striker. Wearing the number 10 jersey, Totti is capable of playing anywhere along the front-line, and has also been deployed as a winger under Zeman, and most notably as a false-9 under Spalletti and Garcia. With his career slowly coming to a close, Totti's goal will to be pass Silvio Piola as Serie A’s record goal-scorer.
