Brendan Rodgers parts company with Liverpool.

Brendan Rodgers has left the managerial role at Liverpool after he was approached by Arsenal to replace the now-retired Arsène Wenger.

Rodgers' Liverpool side finished 2nd in the Premier League last season.

Rodgers attended a Press Conference to announce his departure. When asked about his feelings towards the Liverpool team, he replied "The character shown during my time here by the team was truly magnificent, and there are some wonderful technicians here too - young Phil Coutinho and Joe Allen really showed that throughout last season. Liverpool football club will stay in my heart for some time."

He was also asked about the transfer of the ex-Liverpool star Luis Suarez to Barcelona, he said "The club will definitely struggle with the absence of Luis. He was integral for the side last season but I believe the new transfers can fill the void he will leave. My focus now though is on my season ahead with Arsenal."

Rafa Benitez alongside Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, lifting the Champions League in 2005.

Interest is thought to be high in the open managerial role at Liverpool now, with ex-Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez looking the most likely candidate to take the job, as well as Jürgen Klopp of Dortmund and surprisingly David Moyes, who is struggling to find a club after his short spell at rivals Manchester Unted. All three managers have actively expressed their interest in managing such a reputable club, however nothing has yet been confirmed. Other candidates thought to be interested in the role are: Unai Emery, Julen Lopetegui and Marco Silva

AlexTHFC: Thanks:) Hopefully all goes well...

Icarus: Fixed:) I'll remember that for future updates;)

Tallery: Thanks Tallery! And it'll be a return to the top, right to the top, not even Chelsea will stop us!

Klopp steps up campaign

Jürgen Klopp has this week stepped up his campaign to become manager of Liverpool FC by arranging a meeting with both his agent and a Liverpool representative. These talks may or may not lead to a contract being offered but one reporter caught up with Jürgen to find out more.

Jürgen, we understand you and your agent have been in talks with the Liverpool board, are these rumours true?

"Yes, any chances of becoming part of the Liverpool team would be incredible and I saw this as a fantastic opportunity.."

Are you not worried that this may damage your strong relationship with both the Dortmund board and their supporters?

"That is something I thought hard about. Everyone at Dortmund has done so much for me, and I have a lot of respect for everyone there. No contracts have even been discussed yet and it isn't definite that I will be heading to Anfield."

If these talks break up will you still be searching for a club away from Dortmund?

"Definitely not, Dortmund is the club I live for. If I don't manage to sign a contract with Liverpool I will be staying here for the foreseeable future."

Thank you, Jürgen, that's all the questions I wanted to ask.

Contract talks are expected to take place within the next few weeks.

Klopp has signed a contract with Liverpool lasting until 30th June 2015.

Klopp will take charge of the team during the upcoming pre-season friendlies, including the tour of America. Klopp also arranged a friendly with his previous club, Borussia Dortmund, which will be played on Wednesday at Westfalenstadion.

During the press conference at Anfield, Klopp stated that he feels "honoured to be managing such a fantastic club, with such a wonderful history." Liverpool chairman Tom Werner also joined the conference, saying that he feels "the club is in safe hands, there is nobody better for the job."

Liverpool fans should look forward to the season ahead under Klopp, a very experienced manager who is sure to bring success to any club he managers.

Klopp has also already completed two transfers in his short time at the club, bringing Fabian Shar from FC Basel and Juan Fernando Quintero from FC Porto, the latter of the two staying on loan at Porto until the end of the season. Klopp is said to be excited at the prospect of the two young players, but is unlikely to bring in any more players this transfer window due to his satisfaction with the current squad.

Liverpool Pre-Season Analysis.

Liverpool's fairly successful Pre-Season saw them travel from Germany to the States, and only losing one of seven matches. Klopp's men scored 20 goals and conceded just 7.

Klopp: I am extremely proud of the lads during Pre-Season, they had a tough time last season missing out on the league but I'm certain they can continue to impress this year. I have the utmost confidence that we can mount another title challenge this year.

Klopp: Nobody's leaving.

Friday 15th August 2014

In today's pre-match press conference at Anfield ahead of the clash between Premier League giants Liverpool and Manchester City on Saturday, Jurgen Klopp spoke about this seasons transfer policy.

"I have a squad full of stars and potential stars here, and in my first season I want to give everybody an opportunity in the first team, it is highly unlikely that anyone will be leaving the club on a permanent deal this summer," he later added that "There are a few players I have my eye on, and with some money left in the budget it's likely one or two more players will be coming to Anfield."

Steven Gerrard has been a Liverpool player since 1998.

Klopp also spoke about the rumours surrounding Steven Gerrard, the Liverpool skipper has less than a year left on his contract and may be leaving the Premier League to finish his career. "There is no problem with a contract regarding Steven. We simply have not got around to contract talks yet and I am sure a deal will be confirmed in the coming months."

He later went on to mention Liverpool's chances in the Premier League this season, stating "The whole team and I feel we are real contenders for the title. We will be pushing from the start of the season, anything outside of European competition positions would not be good enough, but this shouldn't even yet be considered - we will finish in one of those places." When asked who the main other contender is for the title he eagerly replied "Manchester United. Although they are one of our main rivals I see them as the team with the most quality in their side - apart from my own. Di Maria will prove a crucial signing in the upcoming season and I'm sure he will justify his large price tag. "

The new Liverpool gaffer will begin his Premier League campaign with Liverpool tomorrow, and will hope to get off to winning ways in this tough fixture against the current champions.

Fans dismay after tough loss.

Saturday 16th August 2014

Liverpool have not got off to the start that Klopp would've wanted this season, with a 3-2 loss to current champions Manchester City at Anfield. The match certainly go as planned with the Reds 2-0 down at halftime, but they can find comfort in the fact that Daniel Sturridge has returned to the goal scoring threat of last season, putting away 2 during the second half.

Moreno got the scoring off for the wrong team in the 10th minute with a deflection into Mignolet's net. Later in the first half Dzeko doubled the scoreline for City, before the referee blew the whistle for half time. A goal for City was disallowed just 4 minutes into the second half, with Aguero putting the ball away from an offside position. A number of chances were then set up by Coutinho and Markovic before Sturridge found his found his shooting boots - scoring a brace between the 66th and 86th minute. Sturridge went through on goal again in the 88th minute before being denied a goal by the England shot-stopper Joe Hart. Fernandinho finished the game off with a wonderful goal from range in the 93rd minute - taking a vital point away from Liverpool with one of the last kicks of the game.

Daniel Sturridge celebrating his first goal of the 2014/15 season.

Sturridge easily lead the best perfomance on the pitch for the Reds, and Jurgen Klopp will be hoping to see matches of a similar calibre during his first season in charge. Mignolet, despite conceding 3, was also a top perfomer. The Belgian 'keeper made a number of diving saves that kept Liverpool in the game. The same can't be said about Dejan Lovren, the defender made a number of mistakes - one of which lead to a goal which proved to be decisive with City taking all three points. The fans will most definitely be looking for improvements from the ex-Southampton man.

The comeback after halftime was definitely key and Klopp should be given some much needed recognition for his team talk to motivate all of the players. During the post-match interviews, Sturridge said "Jurgen's halftime talk gave me the extra confidence for the goals." Klopp will be hoping that such a team talk will not be needed in the next match and that Liverpool will come out of the match with 3 points
