Debenham replaces Robertson at Peterborough United
It was confirmed late last night that the current Peterborough United boss Dave Robertson who took over on a temporary basis following the resignation of Darren Ferguson will be leaving his post with immediate effect after club and coach came to a mutual agreement. It was then discovered earlier this morning that he will be replaced by young and relatively unknown coach Lloyd Debenham.
Despite being young, Debenham has already obtained his UEFA Pro Licence after spending a few years coaching experience with St Albans City’s youth set-up. With a positive reference from the few employers he’s worked for in coaching roles, they have convinced the Peterborough United board that he is the man to take the club forward.
Peterborough United’s Director of Football Barry Fry (who like Debenham has a close association with Barnet FC) has commented on the appointment saying, “I believe that in Lloyd we have got possibly of the most promising young coaches in the area. Some people will go around claiming he isn’t good or experienced enough”
“When you watch him coach, he is organised, got a strong work ethic, but most of all is a natural born leader; people listen to him because he knows what he is on about. The club would never appoint a coach who we lack faith in or feel couldn’t do an adequate job to our expectations”
When we caught up with the young coach shortly after signing the one-year contract, he told theposh.com: “To join a club like Peterborough is a great opportunity for any coach. I believe our location by being near London can help attract quality players and could bring in players who you wouldn’t expect to see”
“I want to get that equal share of both experienced players with some youngsters from lower divisions who can’t develop under as to become great players. I believe if we recruit well this summer, then we can be right up there and be challenging in and around the playoffs”
Debenham and his Peterborough United side will be preparing ahead of the new season with friendlies against: Stamford, Dagenham & Redbridge, Barnet, Hampton & Richmond and Luton Town. This is all before their first game of the season away to Rochdale on August 9th.
