Magath Out, Van Der Sar In!
Fulham appoint Edwin Van Der Sar as managerFulham have confirmed that Felix Magath has left the club following their relegation from the top flight. Magath had been in charge since Valentines day 2014, but had been relieved of his job after just 12 games, with Fulham relegated. It had been a bad season all around for the London based club, with Martin Jol and Rene Meulensteen both sacked, and Magath unable to keep them in the league.
His replacement has been seen as a surprise as former player Edwin Van Der Sar has been appointed as his replacement. Van Der Sar, 44, played for Fulham between 2001 and 2005 before leaving the club for Manchester United on 10 June 2005. He made 127 appearances for the club, and it was his performances for the club that convinced Sir Alex Ferguson to take him to Machester, and he became known as one of the best goalkeepers of all time when at United.
Van Der Sar talked to bbc sport and said "I am very happy to be returning to the club that helped me make my name in England and to enter management as well. I am very happy to get started and am ready to bring this awesome club back into the premier league."
Fulham were relegated last season having been in the premier league since the 2001-02 season, some 13 seasons. Can Van Der Sar be the man to bring Fulham back up to the premier league?
