Leeds head coach Neil Redfearn hopes to hold talks with club president Massimo Cellino next week in a bid to secure his future at the club.

Redfearn, who may have taken charge of his last game, reaffirmed his desire to continue in the role following the goalless draw against Rotherham at Elland Road.

Cellino’s ban from having any executive influence at the club following his tax conviction in Italy expires on Sunday and he must decide whether to renew Redfearn’s contract, which expires in June.

The Italian chose not to attend the season finale despite being given permission by the Football League to attend as a spectator only.

Redfearn said earlier in the week that the reinstatement of assistant Steve Thompson - suspended without explanation earlier this month - would have a major bearing on whether he would continue in the role.

“I’ve had no contact as such,” Redfearn said. “We’re free now obviously to discuss things and talk about stuff, so I would expect next week we’ll sit down and chat.

“The important part now becomes the recruitment part and if I’m going to be here I’d like to be part of that.

“It’s important because if you recruit well and get the right players, you can supplement what we’ve done and this close season we need to recruit better.”

Leeds owner Massimo Cellino says manager Neil Redfearn is 'weak' and 'a baby'

Leeds United chairman Massimo Cellino appears certain to sack manager Neil Redfearn this week after strongly criticising the coach in an interview.

Speaking to the Sunday Mirror, the controversial Italian owner said he felt Redfearn, whose Elland Road contract expires on June 30, has attempted to turn the club’s fans against him.

Redfearn is well liked by the supporters after saving the club from relegation following the the ill-fated reigns of unknown duo David Hockaday and Darko Milanic.

It would seem that is not enough to keep him in the job, with Cellino describing Redfearn as ‘weak’ and ‘like a baby’.

"He tried to play the fans against me to keep his place. Do you think that Neil Redfearn loves Leeds more than me?" the Italian said.

"Tell me why I am in Leeds, why am I so involved with the club? Why am I putting in a lot of money, killing myself? Because I fell in love with this club. But to love this club is to do something for this club.

"Neil Redfearn does the (Leeds United fans') salute. He challenged me. If you are good I can accept the challenge. But not if you are a bad coach.

"He has to respect the chairman. He has to respect the club. He's like a baby. He's been badly advised and used by someone. He is not a bad person but he has a weak personality."

Outgoing Brentford manager Mark Warburton and former Leeds assistant boss Gus Poyet have been mentioned as candidates to potentially replace Redfearn.

Another contender for the job looks to be ex-Bradford, Preston, Watford and Tottenham midfielder Josh Townend. The 40-year-old is a self-confessed avid Leeds fan himself and on the back of a few coaching roles in non-league- notably with FC Halifax Town, Bradford Park Avenue and Grimsby Town- Townend could be well worth keeping an eye on.

Charlie Horton: Leeds United sign goalkeeper

Championship club Leeds United have signed goalkeeper Charlie Horton on a two-year contract.

USA Under-23 international Horton joined Cardiff from League One side Peterborough in 2014, but failed to make an appearance for the club.

The 20-year-old was born in London but moved to Ohio in the United States at the age of nine.

"He has very good potential and will be a future number one," Leeds manager Uwe Rosler told the club's website.

"He has fantastic physical attributes and is a really positive character. He really wants to learn."

LEE ERWIN has signed a three-year deal with English Championship side Leeds United.

The 21-year-old striker- who was controversially involved in a play-off final fight with Rangers Bilel Mohsni, has chosen to knock back a new deal with the Fir Park side in favour of a move to Yorkshire .

Erwin, who made 37 appearances and scored 6 goals, spent almost ten years with the Lanarkshire club and graduated through their Elite Academy. Motherwell will now pursue the Elland Road side for training compensation once Erwin has been registered.

Well boss Ian Baraclough was disappointed to lose the towering forward, and told the official Motherwell website:

“We are obviously disappointed to lose a player like Lee and I told the lad himself I think he would’ve benefited from a further year playing week to week in our first-team.

However, with that all being said, I understand how football works and Leeds Utd is a great club with a great tradition and it’s a big opportunity for him. We’re very proud of him and what he’s achieved.

“From our point of view, it’s a feather in the cap for our Elite Academy; from Chris McCart, Gordon Young and Scott Leitch as well as the individual coaches and the scouts who worked with Lee from such a young age.

“They are often over-looked, but this is yet another example of Motherwell producing or recruiting a player, developing them and helping them move up the football ladder.

“That’s exactly our strategy for the forthcoming years and the challenge for myself and everyone at the club is to find the next Lee Erwin, and do it all over again.

“I would like to personally thank Lee for all his effort since my arrival at the club. He has been absolutely superb for me both in matches and in training and has earned this move. We wish him all the very best in his career down south.”

Erwin, was punched and kicked by Rangers defender Bilel Mohsni at he end of the club's 6-1 aggregate win in the Premiership play-off final.

The Fir Park striker was yellow carded by referee Craig Thomson after shoving Mohsni, who had refused to shake his hand at the end of the match.

Mohsni responded by kicking and punching the 21-year-old - and is now facing an SFA excessive misconduct charge.
