something like that for me, of course the form and such would matter.
choices like Osman and cattermole sound crazy. but osman is a good player who imo is very underrated. but depending on form obviously another player could be chosen. but if i was to choose if everyone was on top form.
Cattermole because he is a fighter in the centre of the park, his aggression can be used.

tbh the only weakness for england is the RB position. Johnson is shite at defending, he lacks the head for a player at that level. if he would improve until then, opinion would change.

but otherwise its just a quick and weird selection :P but at times its the players that havent been given the chance who can be the heroes.
i agree with xtrememeganest
but i think brown should be out and rodwell in
he has a calm play about him and should bring quality to the team
why do you pick hargreaves? :no the lad barely played one match this season,i dont think capello will pick him too.
Very true, he needs to be playing regularly before Capello will even consider him, and I would do the same if it was my choice.

However, from watching him play in the past, his performances at club and international level, and the roles he can play mean that if he gets a regular spot in the United squad I would pick him without a second thought.

England sorely need real defensive minded midfielder. A tough tackeling, no nonsense general to really control the match infront of the defense and plug gaps etc.

1. Hargreves is versatile. He can play in the centre or hang back as a holding midfielder which is his preference. He is also perfectly at home at right back which is very useful as England have a short list of competent full backs on both sides. He has also improvised at left back on occasion.

2. He is and always has been solid defensively and totally reliable in his task. He has a cool head and a strong tackle and would make a great partner for players such as Lampard and Gerrard who roam forwards while he hangs back.

3. Barry is not a true defensive midfielder. We need someone to make up for the fact that England now have two very attacking full backs. I think that Johnson is rightly first choice for right back. As a Liverpool fan I am very aware of his defensive failings but I think internationally we should embrace what he has to offer going forwards and use a player like Hargreves to do the job of an anchor man: if Johnson (or Ashley Cole) go forward the player moves to that side and is prepared to slot in and aid the centre backs defending while the full back gets back into position.

These are just a few reasons why I think he'd be essential on the team sheet.
you are talking about Hargreaves from Bayern Munich :) i haven't seen that one at Man Utd to be honest.i think he's another Fergie's flop.yes,he was quite good in germany but i dont think he's that good.even when he was fit he was a sub,i'm not sure he can get a regular first team football at Man U.it's up to him to prove me wrong:) cuz i really hate players like carrick and fletcher,he's much more inteligent than they are, they run a lot and play a little :dontgetit

are you having a laugh? apart from hargreaves being injured most of the time and having problems with that. the most of the games he has played for united he has been very good.

carrick isnt a DM, he is a more balanced CM player who is intelligent in his positioning play, can cover for players defensively. but his main quality is the passing. carrick is one of the best passers in the premier league, has good vision as well. no way he lacks "intelligence".

fletcher is a box to box player now, he has improved a lot, he is not a real DM either like hargreaves. but fletcher works hard and good and helps out in the defence. but he is good going forward now as well. he is a really good player now, a important player. looking back a few years you would have never thought how important and good fletcher would have become.

I think youre mistaking Hargreves being injured and not being able to play for him not being good enough to make the team.

He is very much good enough, and a player that I think United have missed. He has been suffering for years with sever tendinitis; last year he was sent for specialist surgery to cure the problem which has put him out for almost a year. He should be available to play again by the end of November according to the United official website.

I'd have Adam Johnson as a standby in midfield. I spotted him playing for Middlesbrough a few years back and thought he had quite a bit of potential. Since his move to Man City he's confirmed my belief he can be a good player with some solid performances including a gem against Sunderland I think it was. He could MAYBE be our answer to the left side problem if Mancini takes him under his arm and is careful not to over-hype him. My thoughts anyway
