Discrepencies with in game scouting

Hi, I'm just wondering how reliable the FMGScout oweing to some major discrepencies I've found between the FMGScout rating and leading in game scouts. For instance, I'm trying to find a right winger. FMGScout tells me that Mauro Camoranesi is the best right winger in the world (no players comparable to Camoranesi in this role). However, the world class Bettega who has a JA rating of 20 and determination of 18 reckons he's only worth 2.5/5 stars and that there's not too much difference between him and the clubs strongest right midfielder Park Ji-Sung. Any thoughts?

I think the in game scouts very much take into consideration factors such as which foot they prefer, and their age.

Camoranesi probably has the best stats in the game for a right winger, but they will only last so long, as hes 32. His stats will drops away in a season or two.

How accurate is the potential estimation for the genie scout? My scouts say that a player has the potential to be as good as somebody with a rating of 80%. Will he fulfill that even if his potential rating shown by the genie is 70%?

i.e. If a 16 year old is said to have a PA of 150 and a potential rating of 70% as a MC, is it possible that he exceeds this expected value at say, age 26?

I think that if you look at the top young players in the world today, (balotelli, jovetic, pato, bojan, etc.) its hard to say that the will turn into really top world class players like torres or ronaldo.
So you cant really say that any of these under20s will be better than 80%.
They could be, but nothing guarantees that.
So i think that genie scout is accurate enough in this respect.

but your right. it tends to over-rate older players and not take their age into account. and it doesn't rate young players (around 16 years old) even close to their full potential.

I just use genie scout as a guideline and thats all it is. At the end of the day, the decision is down to the manager...

That's what I mean..

Yes, to an extent. Having played a lot of 2009 and used Genie, I did notice that in the same save game a player's potential rating went up over time. I think I figured out why this is. Genie makes some assumptions based on training schedule, current stats, and PA. What Genie can't account for is the off-season lag in CA and subsequent retraining and tuning. In the offseason a players CA drops, and when they come back for training, you are training them in the things you want them to train in. Therefore over time, a player can lose less essential/desirable stats and migrate them slowly toward more desirable traits. This increases their potential position rating. Near as I can tell, that's the reason for the slight increase in potential rating (not PA) over time.

Anecdotally, yes, exactly what you're asking does happen. Particularly in players that are very young. (15-18) However I never saw a drastic change. Two things I look for:

- If a player is very young, Genie underestimates their potential rating, mostly I think due to the above
- If a player is on a bad team or one with bad training, Genie assumes they will not reach their PA. You can check this by clicking the show potential ratings box. A player in that case that's moved to a team with better training may reach their PA, or at least get closer to it. This assume they're young enough to reach that PA.

Specifically to your point, will a 75 potential winger reach 85 actual? Not in my experience, Genie is pretty accurate. But he may reach 80.
