In the midst of Berkshire, a team called Maidenhead United ply their trade in the National League South, but for so many seasons they have been punching above their weight in this division - many could say the fans deserved better - they did, with top quality players being let go, being played out of position it was a relief on most fans faces when they saw the back of long serving Johnson Hippolyte - known to many in the Non-League game as "Drax" stepped down as manager, but he left in style guiding the club to survival and then bringing home silverware in fashion. Smashing Aylesbury 4-0 in the Berks and Bucks Cup final back in May.
That is not everything about this club though.. You may ask why Maidenhead?
Well here's a few facts about the Magpies:
- They were involved in the first ever fa cup to take place.
- Their ground (York Road) is the oldest ground which is still in continuous use in the world by the same club.
Back to the basics, and I have a few Magpie supporting friends so thought I'd give them a shot - now with Devo [Alan Devonshire] back in charge, things look like they're on the way back and in real life made the FA Cup 1st round this season taking Port Vale to a replay. With strong football league ambitions in real life of the football league is certainly is doable, along with the quality of the squad Alan Devonshire has brought along with him to the Mags along with his experience at this level. My aim is to reach not just the football league with this club, but potentially a stable Premier League side with the patience and work commitments it will take a while but hopefully I won't get bored. I will try and do regular updates, but please get stuck into my first non-league story of the new FM.
