Swansea City: Rodgers Return

Gary Monk has parted company as of today with Swansea City due to "unknown reasons." Monk has spent eleven years at the club, first as a defender for the club and then a manager since February 2014, where he guided the club to safety and last season helped the club earn it's highest finish in the Premier League, finishing 8th. Monk was also tipped to become a potential England manager by many pundits due to his brilliant style of play he brought to the club. A club statement was released breaking the news saying, "The Swansea manager, Gary Monk has parted ways with the club on mutual terms. Gary was a huge figure in the clubs history due to not only his managerial record with us, but due to his playing career with us too. Gary will be very much missed and we would like to wish him the very best.

The Swans have already begun looking for a new manager according to our sources, with the likes of Mark Warburton, Jurgan Klopp and former manager Michael Laudrup being linked to take the reigns at the Liberty. Leon Britton, who played and was also managed by Monk also quoted, "It's a real shame to lose such an influential figure at the club, Gary was a legend in the eyes of everyone associated at the club and he will be very much missed. I had the honour of being able to not only be managed by him, but play alongside him and he was a top man."

Jurgen Klopp has today come out in an interview saying "Swansea isn't for me." This came after he was linked with the job after Gary Monk's surprise departure on Friday. Klopp has been unemployed since May after he resigned from Borussia Dortmund, as the club finished in a poor position compared to previous years in 7th. The comments were made early on today when in an interview the German was asked if he was in contact with the club over becoming the new manager. Klopp quoted, "I've had no contact with the club at all and if I'm being honest, Swansea isn't for me. If I was to come back into football now then it would be for a bigger club, no disrespect to them, but I couldn't see myself at the Liberty, no."


Klopp is now at 100/1 odds to takeover at the club and it is no wonder that many Swansea fans were excited at the prospect of 'The Normal One' taking charge of the Swans. Many of the fans reacted on social media with one saying, "Huge disappointment to here Klopp turn us down as he was very much wanted at the club. His record speaks for itself. He's very much a top class manager, however I think there are other options to look at, who hopefully can continue where Monk left off." Indeed Klopp's record speaks for itself, along with a nomination for manager of the year a couple year ago, Klopp is very much a world class manager.

Developing news says that ex Swansea player, Alan Tate has been in some contact with the club and is now at 16/1 to takeover. Tate spent fifteen years at the club making 317 appearances and similar to Monk is considered a legend at the club. The 32 year old is currently playing at Port Talbot Town however they have quoted that Tate "may leave if offered the job."

Klopp at Swansea was always gonna be a long shot, however it's still disappointing and Rodgers linked with a return is an interesting one at 50/1!

Brendan Rodgers has today left his job at Liverpool and rejoined his old side Swansea City on a three year deal. It is believed Rodgers was unhappy he wasn't offered a contract at Liverpool as he only had a year remaining on his current deal, though rumours were saying Rodgers was to be offered a contract later on in the year if the club could finish within the top four. Rodgers left Swansea in 2012 for the Liverpool job after he produced "miracles," as fans say by leading them not only into the Premier League but by taking the relegation favourites comfortably above the relegation zone as they picked up points to top sides such as Tottenham, Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle.

In a club statement released by Swansea they said, "We are delighted to welcome back a familiar face to the club in Brendan Rodgers who will be taking over as manager at the club once again. His record here at the club speaks wonders and it is fantastic to welcome him back on a three year deal. We wish him the very best and we're confident he has what it takes to produce another brilliant year for the club." Liverpool also produced a statement announcing Rodgers has left by saying on the club website, "We are surprised to hear the shock departure of club manager Brendan Rodgers today to rejoin his old club, Swansea City. We totally support his move and wish him the very best as he did a lot for this club."

Wayne Routledge, who played under Rodgers in his first spell said on Twitter, "Brilliant to hear Brendan Rodgers has joined the club again. He did a lot for the club, as well as me so it's great to see. I cannot wait for the upcoming season now with this man in charge, #UpTheSwans. Fans also reacted on Twitter with one saying, "What wonderful news! Rodgers is back, the 'Rodgers Revolution' is back! #Swans.

The Northern Irishman's record is strong to say the least with 39 wins to his name in 96 games and a win rate of 40% and he'll be looking to improve that record this season and hotshot Gylfi Sigurðsson said, "I look forward to working under the new manager, he has a good record and I'm confident that record will just get even better this season. The group worked hard last season and we've continued to throughout pre-season, so we're ready for the season next month." Rodgers is set to hold a press conference tomorrow night.
