What's next for Arsenal after Wenger retirement?

Sad news for Arsenal fans all over the world as their highly-respected manager Arsene Wenger decided to retire as manager. With his contract expiring in 2017, the Frenchman decided to leave his post at the club after winning back-to-back FA Cups and a Community Shield in his last two seasons. His journey at the North-London club began in 1996 at that time being an unknown but ambitious manager. After 18 years in charge at one of the biggest clubs in the world, he has become Arsenal's longest - serving manager and most successful in terms of major titles won. He has also been recognised for his contribution to the revolutionising of football in England in the late 1990s through the introduction of changes in the training and diet of players. Altough he has never won a Champions League, he remains one of the football's giants and his legacy will live forever. Arsene Wenger will be the new Director of Football at Arsenal.
Well hopefully a frikin title or 2 :D
Goodbye Wenger. Who's next? :P

Good luck for your story.
Good luck mate! :D

Arsenal appoint an unknown manager!

Today’s reports suggest that the Arsenal board have already found a replacement for their former manager, Arsene Wenger. Altough everyone expected a world-class manager to be the new boss at the English giants, like Guardiola, Ancelotti or even Mourinho, the bomb was dropped when the Managing Director Ivan Gazidis announced an American “talented and ambitious man” named John Smith as their new manager. Is that a risk or we shall see a period of good domination and the return to glory of the North-London club with that surprising decision? This is what Sky Sport’s football experts think:

Jamie Carragher: “To me, this is a sign of a big change that is coming at Arsenal. I don’t know if somebody expects this guy to bring the glory back to them, at least in his first two or three seasons, but I think this is a move for the future. Altough, this may become either a genius move from the Arsenal board or an unsurprinsigly failure.”

Thierry Henry: “As a former player and a fan of Arsenal, I think the club would need to have at least two leaders in the dressing room and I’m thinking about Per and Laurent who might help Smith to settle and have a good period of accommodation. From there, he would have to pick carefully his transfers and way to approach things, especially on the pitch. Maybe he will bring something new in terms of football philosophies like Arsene did when he first arrived at Highbury.”

Jamie Redknapp: “From the start I think Arsenal are out of the title race for this season. Why? Because this guy has no experience and he never managed before. He still has to prove himself and Arsenal is not the club where you have time to do this. You may say that Wenger’s situation was the same and I agree with that but you forget that football is no longer the same. As harsh as I may seem, I think Smith has no chance in the Premier League…at least for now.”

The 25-year old currently earns 150k euros/week with his contract expiring next summer.
I don't know who he is but he has one weird ass shaped head = ))
Some good piece of writing on display so far, keep it up.
Thanks guys! I appreciate your words

Smith: “I can cope with the pressure!”

Recently appointed Arsenal manager held his first press conference at Emirates in which he had to answer some tough questions from the journalists.

Q: “You’re new in the world of football, you’ve never managed before and all the odds are for you to failure in the first season. You think you can manage that and turn it in your favor?”
A: “I have plenty of confidence and I think I can prove everybody that Arsenal made a good decision when they appointed me. I know this will be tough but I never expected to be different.”

Q: “You have a squad full of world-class players which obviously have a hard to control personality. Giving the fact that you’re younger than most of them, you think you can have the locker room beside you?”
A: “Yes, I am here to prove myself and to bring Arsenal back to glory. I have my own methods which I’m planning on putting them in display. If someone decides they’re against them, they are free to leave, I will not approach things as someone else wants me to.”

Q: “You come here after Arsene Wenger, a giant in world football and someone who fans appreciate for what he’s done here. Do you think you can manage the expectations of replacing such an icon?”
A: “My job here is to become an icon myself so yeah, I think that says everything.”

Q: “What’s your answer for people who criticize you or who say you have no chance at Arsenal?”
A: “I have nothing to say, I prefer to prove points rather than discuss them. I am not the one who complains about referees and who says everything is against him. I don’t criticize our fans and I absolutely don’t criticize my players in public. I am new, I am different and I am eager to succeed. You should ask me this question again after a few months.”

Q: “Do you plan to splash the cash on new players or are you more confident about succeeding with youngsters?”
A: “I will not discuss the transfers today because I have to make up my mind and choose carefully the players I need. I think the price doesn’t reflect the exact value of a player and I will not spend my money in a stupid way.”

Arsenal summer activity

Gabriel Barbosa - one of the transfers of this summer for Arsenal arrived for a fee of 15M euros from Santos.
