Toulouse defender Jean-Daniel Akpa-Akpro is set to test his skills in Portugal

• The 23-year-old joins Benfica hoping to play European football
• Akpa-Akpro has spent his entire career so far with Toulouse
• The Ivorian has represented his country four times so far in his career

Benfica have signed Toulouse defender Jean-Daniel Akpa-Akpro for €7.75 million although the transfer may eventually rise to €12 million. The contract signed by Akpa-Akpro will see him earn €20,500 per week until 2020.

“I believe Jean-Daniel will prove to be a terrific transfer for our club.” said Benfica manager Rui Vitoria. “He offered tremendous defensive ability as well as being very potent when going forward.” he added.

The Ivorian has spent his entire professional career at Toulouse, making 109 league appearances during his time at the club. It is believed that Akpa-Akpro left the club looking to compete in European football.

After the signing, Toulouse recalled Dany Maury from his loan spell at La Berrichonne in order to provide cover for the departure of Akpa-Akpro.
You're getting a good fee there, hopefully you made the right decision in selling him.

Mammana Set For Toulouse

http://s105.photobucket.com/user/chrisgriffin89/media/emanuel_mammana_sub_20_crop1433506440660_zpswescuw0h.jpg.html
Emanuel Mammana has been brought to Toulouse in order to solve their defensive woes

• Mammana joins Toulouse from River Plate for €7.5 million
• The 19-year-old is expected to earn €18,750 per week
• The Argentinian will attend an intensive language course to learn French

Emanuel Mammana has moved from River Plate to Toulouse after the clubs agreed to a transfer fee of €7.5 million. The Argentinian defender is set to join fellow Argentinian players Cristian Pavon and Oscar Trejo in the south of France in a deal that will see him earn €18,750 per week.

“Emanuel is another fine addition to our squad as we continue to bring in young players with tremendous talent.” said Toulouse manager Dominic Arribage. “I hope to continue to nurture the talent that Emanuel has and to see him become the best player he can be.” he added.

Toulouse have struggled defensively so far this season, something which has not been overlooked by Dominic Arribage as he continues to bring in players to solve the issue. The recent transfers will see the current Toulouse players put under pressure in order to maintain their place in the side.

“I am looking forward to the transition to playing football in Europe.” said Mammana. “I can’t wait to meet my new teammates and playing in front of the Toulouse fans.” he added.
Great signing, a young player who will be a great player in the future.

Toulouse secured progression in the French Cup by defeating Stade de Reims, they then faced Stade de Reims once again in the Ligue 1 with Kelechi Iheanacho completing a brace from the bench to see Toulouse come from behind to earn a point.

In an incredible match, Toulouse managed to level the score twice against Paris Saint-Germain until Edinson Cavani took over the game, finishing with four goals and secured his side the victory.

Toulouse finished the month strongly, progressing further in the French Cup by defeating ESTAC Troyes comfortably and coming away with four points in their final fixtures against AS Monaco and En Avant de Guingamp.

French winger Gabriel Obertan has put together a string of quality performances throughout the past month which has resulted in him being named the Player Of The Month for January.

Obertan has struggled to perform consistently since joining Toulouse for €1.2 million from Newcastle at the start of the season but he has been able to rectify that, providing four assists and one goal in six games.

After spending the past six seasons in England, Obertan struggled to find consistent first team football and the playing time he has received under Dominic Arribage is believed to have been the key in him finding form.

Paris Saint-Germain maintain their lead at the top of Ligue 1 and continue to build on their incredible goal difference. FC Nantes continue to impress, currently sitting in 2nd after being predicted to finish 17th at the start of the season.

The positions below the top two have begun to separate from each other but a good month from any of these teams could see them go up the ladder. A number of sides who currently sit mid-table were predicted to finish much higher at the start of the season and have the quality in their squads to see them capable of putting together a good run of results.

Olympique de Marseille are slowly distancing themselves from relegation with the main candidates to be playing Ligue 2 next year becoming clearer.

After defeating Stade de Reims, Toulouse found themselves drawn against another Ligue 1 side in ESTAC Troyes who they defeated 3-1 with Wissam Ben Yedder collecting a brace.

The draw continued to offer no favours as Toulouse were drawn against tournament favourites Paris Saint-Germain. The fixture is set to be played on the 9th of February with the winner going through to the play in the quarter finals of the competition at the start of March.

Fixtures

To open the month, Toulouse face the top three sides in Ligue 1. Facing OGC Nice and FC Nantes who currently sit in third and second respectively before facing league leaders Paris Saint-Germain in the French Cup.

Following the tough opening fixtures, Toulouse travel to face rivals Montpellier HSC with the sides facing each other twice so far this season with both sides winning one game each.

To finish the month, Toulouse play two home matches with the first match against GFC Ajaccio followed by another tough fixture against forth placed Stade Rennais FC.
A decent month there, with an exciting game against PSG without a doubt, hope you can push on further up the table now!
