Manchester United: A New Era

Reports emanating from Old Trafford this evening suggest that Dutchman Louis van Gaal could be about to get his marching orders from co-chairmen Joel and Avram Glazer, following what the hierarchy deemed to be an unacceptable performance last season.

United finished 4th in the league, securing European football,but that was where the plaudits for Van Gaal ended - he could only muster a second round appearance in the Capital One Cup, and 6th round of the FA Cup.

The Dutchman has been responsible for overseeing various transfers at the club, signing Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw to name a few at the start of last season, as well as bringing in Memphis Depay, Anthony Martial, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin this summer, to name but a few.

However, in spite of all this, Van Gaal has found his card marked by the Glazers, who are said to be displeased at the club's inability to seal silverware in the previous season - the duo haven't spoken directly to the media, but Van Gaal did hold a press conference in which he apologised for the team's performances, accompanied by Striker and club Captain Wayne Rooney:

"This season was unacceptable, and I can only apologise to the proud fans of this club for the absence of any trophies. I understand that the board are looking for more, and I am ready for any decision they may wish to make in the coming weeks."

However, it may not even be weeks until the Glazers make their decision, with current Assistant Manager Ryan Giggs thought to be the fan's preference to take over, while the bookies are touting the usual circumstances in the form of Carlo Ancelloti, Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho.

Just hours after Louis van Gaal was officially released from his position as manager of Manchester United, fan favourite Ryan Giggs was officially unveiled as his successor at Old Trafford.

Giggs, who will turn 42 on his next birthday, has been working towards full accreditation as a top-level coach since he hung up his boots, and United will be his first full post in management, after a short spell as player-manager in 2014 after David Moyes was sacked. At that time, Giggs built a record of 2 Wins, a Draw and a Defeat in the final four games of the season.

Giggs did admit to not being able to sleep during that one-month period, but has since stood alongside Louis Van Gaal for a full season on the touchline, and he firmly believes that the past season has moulded him into the correct man for the job.

"I'm absolutely delighted to be sitting in front of you as manager of Manchester United, a club which will forever hold a special place in my heart. I sit here now, and i'm going to make a promise to every single Manchester United fan: I will never do anything less than my absolute best to bring glory back to this club. We're going to play football the right way, and that, that is a promise."

During a playing career which spanned 24 years, Giggs made 672 appearances, scoring 114 goals, and securing an enduring place in the hearts of Manchester United fans everywhere, helping his club to 13 Premier Leagues, 4 FA Cups, 3 League Cups, 2 Champions Leagues, A Club World Championship win, a UEFA Supercup title and 9 FA Community Shield wins.

United fans are sure to be hoping that Giggs can bring his winning streak as a player to bear on the current crop of United players, and restore their club to the glory days of Sir Alex Ferguson, which must now seem distant, following the reigns of David Moyes and Lous Van Gaal.

Sky Sports understands that Atletico Madrid youngster Matías Kranevitter is high on Ryan Giggs' shopping list, but the Welshman may find it difficult to prise him away from the Spanish capital, as he only arrived this summer, in a £6.5m deal.

Ahead of the new season, Manchester United boss Ryan Giggs is said to be keen to spend a huge war chest on strengthening his squad this summer, with a variety of targets being linked with a move to Manchester, including Atletico Madrid youngster Matías Kranevitter, and Juventus striker Alvaro Morata.

Kranneviter, 22, joined Atletico this summer, but was immediately loaned back to River Plate, with the Madrid side preferring not to use a defensive midfielder, and preferring Spanish starlet Oliver in the midst of the midfield.

Despite playing in Argentina this season, Kranevitter is apparently upset that he was not able to prove his worth in the Spanish capital, especially given Atletico's lack of youth in defensive midfield; Manchester United may give him an out, and he certainly did nothing to play down the rumours of a move, saying that "For now, I am at River Plate, but next season, who knows?" suggesting that he is willing to see out his term at River Plate before seeking a new career direction.

Giggs himself was full of praise for the Argentinian, stating that "Matías is a great talent, and of course, we are a club who will always seek to find and nurture the greatest talents in the sport. I would be daft to say we're not looking at him, but it will be a tricky move to make, because he only so recently moved to Madrid - i'm sure we'll get to talking about it though, and I won't rule anything out."

Sky Sports understands that Manchester United boss Ryan Giggs sanctioned a fee of around £28.5m in order to match the release clause of Uruguayan centre-back José Giménez.

The 20 Year old is highly rated in world football, after racking up 20 appearances for Atletico last season, scoring once for the Madrid side.

In his first official transfer move as Manchester United manager, Ryan Giggs has parted with a fee in the region of £28.5m to lure Atletico Madrid defender José Giménez to Old Trafford. Giménez is already a well-known name in South America, having made is Uruguay debut against Colombia in 2013, making 5 international appearances since then.

Giménez started his career at Uruguayan First Division side Danubio, breaking into their first team in 2012 and making just 16 appearances before Atletico spirited him to Spain in an £800k bargain deal. Since then, Giménez' stock has been on the rise, as his 21 appearances catapulted him into the public eye across Europe.

£28.5m may seem like a lot to United fans, especially for a somewhat unproven defender, but Giménez is certainly a player with the capacity to develop into a true world beater, already drawing plaudits for his composure on the ball and his work rate. The 20 year old will bring a technicality to United's defence which it may previously have lacked, and is likely to facilitate a more possession-focused style of play, as Giggs encourages his side to build attacking phases of play with the ball at their feet, rather than long-ball football.

Speaking to the press this morning, Giménez seemed delighted to have made his move to Manchester, stating that "The weather might take some time to get used to - it rains a lot here, i've heard - but I couldn't be happier to have moved to such a massive club. I hope to play for the first team as much as possible, and I hope I will learn much at this club"

Giggs, too, was excited about the club's new signing, stating that "José is an incredibly talented footballer, and i'm delighted that he's chosen to join this club. His technical ability is quite remarkable, especially in a player of his age. We're looking forward to seeing what he can do in a full training session, and hopefully he'll settle quickly and you'll see some incredible performances."

It is understood that Manchester United have parted with a mammoth £37m to draw Juventus starlet Alvaro Morata to Old Trafford, to the delight of Red Devils fans the world over.

The 22 year old is said to be "over the moon" with his transfer, and has vowed to give "nothing short of 100%" while he is at the club.

As the transfer window draws towards its final days, newly installed Manchester United boss Ryan Giggs has sanctioned his club's second massive transfer of the summer, as the club splash almost £40m on Juventus striker Alvaro Morata, who scored 8 goals in 29 appearances last season, following a £16m move from Spanish giants Real Madrid last summer.

Despite only being at Juventus for one year, Morata has been allowed to leave Turin, with Juventus boss Massimilliano Allegri said to be "disappointed" at Morata's decision to go through with the transfer. Morata himself was clearly delighted at his press conference this morning though, stating that:

"Manchester United is a massive club, and I am delighted to be sitting here in front of you today, as a Manchester United player. Of course, there are many, many players here who fans will see as their favoured players - Wayne Rooney for example - and I'm going to have to work hard and play at my very best to convince everyone that I deserve my place in this team. But I really am very, very happy to be here, and I hope to stay here for many more years."
