Giggs Quits After Broken Promise

http://guardianlv.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Giggs.jpeg

Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs has resigned from his role at the club after reportedly being promised the managerial role if Louis van Gaal didn't win any silverware in his first season at the helm. Ed Woodward today confirmed the Dutchman would continue in his role.

"Louis is an acclaimed manager and we have every confidence that he will succeed this season."

A visibly upset Giggs was seen departing Carrington this morning and the 41 year old confirmed his resignation minutes later using his Twitter account.

Manchester United also announced the departure, citing 'personal terms' as the reason behind it. We attemped to speak with club legend and director Sir Alex Ferguson but he was unavailable for comment.

Although it's been denied by the club, the supposed treatment of Giggs has been met with outcry from fans, many defending the club's game record holder. Some, however, agree that van Gaal needs more time, whilst the board of FC United of Manchester extended a somewhat satirical hand to Giggs, with the tweet, "Join the party Ryan, a managerial role is waiting for you at FC United."

Giggs is yet to speak with media and as such there is still speculation as to what the Welshman will do next. Some are suggesting he will look to join another EPL club's coaching staff, whilst others are linking him with a job in the Wales set-up. Whatever the outcome, it will be interesting to see Ryan Giggs, post-United.
Some impressive writing, welcome to the site and good luck :)
Absolutely terrific start, I would love to see Giggs take a side like Cardiff and make them a force!
Great start, really looking forward to this :)

Ex-Manchester United player, interim manager and assistant manager Ryan Giggs today spoke to the press following his resignation from the club. The following is a transcript from Sky Sports HD.

----

"Good afternoon all. If I could get you to speak one at a time that'd be great, thanks."

"Ryan, talk us through why you left Manchester United."

"Well, it's quite simple really. They promised me the manager's job if Louis couldn't win anything, he didn't, I didn't get the job. I can't work under someone who makes that kind of promise and then breaks them."

"By working under, do you mean Ed Woodward? Was he the one that made the promise?"

"I don't think it was entirely his decision, but he verbally made the promise and has since verbally broken it."

"Do you suspect some board members may have had a say? For example, Sir Alex Ferguson?"

"I'm not going to discuss who made decisions, or throw blame at anyone, especially not Fergie. The decision has been made, I'd like to move onto talking about other things."

Giggs refused to comment on his old manager and quickly changed the subject

"What are you planning on doing in the coming weeks?"

"Thankyou. I'm planning on focusing most of my time on my coaching qualifications; I'm currently about 5 months away from completing my Continental Pro License, which will make me as qualified as they come."

"Does this mean you'll be entering the management game?"

"I'm not sure at the moment. I'd love to keep my options open. Being a right hand man to David [Moyes] and Louis [van Gaal] was pretty enjoyable, so I might continue down that path. Punditry also interests me, so I guess the only thing I can confirm is that I won't be going back to Old Trafford in the near future?"

"Have you seen FC Unite's job offer?"

"I have indeed, and I must apologise, because that's definitely a path I won't be following. Thanks guys, I think I'll wrap it up here."
Loving this, very interested to see which direction you take it!

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has taken aim at Ed Woodward and the Glazer family, criticising their treatment of former assistant manager and player Ryan Giggs. Neville and Giggs played together at Old Trafford for a long period of time and the former has stood up for his teammate on air.

"The way the board at United treated Giggsy was just disrespectful. He's a club legend, game records holder, won more tophies than most Championship clubs. He deserves respect, and to break that kind of promise is very disgraceful on the club's behalf. He's devoted his life to the club and in the end leaves on bad terms. I can only hope he returns someday and the board makes amends."

When asked what Giggs would do next, Neville was assertive in his answer.

"Oh I have no doubt that he'll throw himself back into the fray. He's not one for taking a break, he could have done that after retiring as a player but he didn't. I could see him either being an assistant manager in the Prem or a manager in the Championship."

Giggs has recently been spotted in Scotland, attending the Inverclyde National Sports Training Centre in order to get his coaching qualifications.
Im just gonna keep guessing which club.. umm SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY!

Chapter 1

http://www3.hilton.com/resources/media/hi/GLAHITW/en_US/img/shared/full_page_image_gallery/main/HL_cityviews01_13_675x359_FitToBoxSmallDimension_Center.jpg

Ryan was indeed throwing himself back into the fray. He was renting an apartment in the Glasgow CBD, attending everyday to complete his badges. That was the first step. The next step... well, that he was unsure of.

He had already received some informal offers from Swansea, Southampton and Fulham to join their coaching staff, and had politely but firmly rejected them. Coaching, he had decided, didn't fulfill his needs and although he was coy about it with the press, football management was certainly the path he wanted to follow. First, however, he needed the top qualifications.

Inverclyde National Sports Training Centre was a school with a top reputation, having most notably given Jose Mourinho and David Moyes their coaching badges. As one of the greatest managers of all time, Jose alone had been always been admired by Ryan and to follow in his footsteps would be a major honour. He had actually worked under David, and considered him a great role model, and that affected his decision to join the school as well.

Another reason Ryan came to Scotland was because it wasn't just the homeland of David Moyes. It was also the homeland of Giggs' idol, mentor and manager - Sir Alex Ferguson. They had been through so much together, as had most of the Class of '92. 2 Champions League trophies, 13 Premier League wins and countless other accolades. Giggs was United's longest serving player and Ferguson was United's longest serving manager. Sir Alex was Ryan's ultimate role model.

And so he was in Scotland, partly for the school, and partly to try and draw inspiration from the culture that gave the world Sir Alex Ferguson, not to mention Denis Law, Kenny Dalgleish and Jock Stein. He was so totally engrossed in Scotland that he often forgot he was still being monitored by media and clubs alike, looking for his next move, and so it probably shouldn't have come as a shock to him that on one Thursday afternoon, 3 sharply dressed Chinese men came to his door and offered him a job. The job to manage Shanghai Shenhua.
Interesting, if Giggs ends up at Shanghai I would love to see him bring in players he has played with in the past!
Would love Giggs to try and speak Chinese not gonna lie...
A superb start to what should become an exciting tale!

Chapter 2

"Mr Giggs. May we come inside?"

Xi Shenpeng was not an intimidating figure, yet carried himself with the utmost confidence, and Ryan found himself unable to refuse the offer. Xi walked in with his colleagues and introduced himself.

"I'd like to speak to you about a managerial role."

Ryan was still in major shock. 3 Chinese men, here in Glasgow? And not to mention a chance to manage one of the richest clubs in the world, even if it wasn't the most reputable. It had been, what, a week since he had announced his resignation? Informal offers to join a coaching staff were one thing; this was next level.

Ryan turned and realised Xi was waiting for him.

"After you, Mr Giggs. This is your apartment after all."

Ryan led the trio of businessmen to the balcony, overviewing the bustling city centre of Scotland's largest city. Xi sat down with an aura of confidence and pulled out a manila folder. His colleagues produced a pen and a contract. Ryan finally spoke.

"So, you really want me for this manager's job?"

"Of course... This is a very real proposition. I would not have travelled so far if it wasn't. I understand you are operating without an agent?"

"That's right."

"Would you like to postpone the talks until after you have appointed an agent?"

"No, no, it's ok. I want to decide my own terms."

Ryan missed the smirk on Xi's face.

"Very well then. Here are our expectations, as well as what you will be provided with."

Ryan took the manila folder and read through it.

"What's the ACL?"

"Asian Champions League. With the funds at your disposal, it should be easy for you to do well in it."

Ryan skimmed through some other philosophies outlined in the document, and found the budgets."

"You sure this is in British pounds?"

"I am 100% sure of it, Mr Giggs. Do not worry, financially you will always have my backing."

Giggs still couldn't believe the transfer budget, and Xi noticed.

"With that money, we want you to create a Manchester United link. Sign some players from them. Rafael, Nani, van Persie."

The man clearly knew his football, but Giggs wasn't convinced.

"I'd like to manage in Britain; China is half a world away. You can't expect me to just pick up my family and go to Shanghai."

Xi sat forward.

"Listen, Mr Giggs. This is a two-year deal. We will pay you plenty enough for your family to live in complete comfort. If you want, I will even pay for them to live in England and fly them over whenever you want. This job will give you your first step in management, in a non-pressure environment. I will not sack you. I will give you money to work with. You can mould this squad into your own image and then leave for England once your 2 years are finished. I urge you to fully think about -"

Ryan interrupted him. "I'm.. I'm sorry, Mr Xi, I have to go straightaway. I really am sorry."
