BREAKING: Gourvennec approached by Lille
Jocelyn Gourvennec, pictured above, has been approached by French side LOSC Lille ahead of a potential managerial move from Guingamp.
Ligue 1 side Guingamp have reportedly been approached by fellow French top flight club Lille for manager Jocelyn Gourvennec.
Gourvennec, 44, is one of the favourites to replace former Lille manager Rene Girard, after he left Les Dogues by mutual consent at the end of the season. Other candidates include Andrea Stramaccioni, Vincenzo Montella and John Carver.
BBC Sport reported the news first with a tweet early this morning.
And a spokesperson for Lille later confirmed these rumours, as he told France Football: "An approach has been made to Guingamp regarding the signing of manager Jocelyn Gourvennec, but nothing is yet confirmed."
Chairman Michel Seydoux is said to be leading the selection process of Girard's successor, following a disappointing season under the 61 year-old's management.
Lille finished in 8th place in Ligue 1, 5 places down from the previous season's finish of 3rd. The campaign included home defeats to Guingamp and Marseille, and an embarrassing 6-1 humiliation at the hands of champions Paris Saint-Germain.
In addition, they failed to get any further than the round of 64 in the Coupe de France, losing 2-0 away to Bastia, were defeated in the Champions League play-off rounds 3-0 on aggregate against FC Porto, and finished bottom of their Europa League group, failing to win a single match.
Fans of Les Dogues are hoping for a manager with fresh ideas, according to various websites.
Former Swansea City and Brondby manager Michael Laudrup and ex-Portugal boss Paulo Bento are two names to have been highly recommended by fans.
Gourvennec, born in Brest, took over at Guingamp in July 2010, and has since picked up almost 100 victories, alongside an impressive win percentage of 43.2%.
His greatest achievement, however, is most likely the victory in the Coupe de France in the 2013/14 season.
This season, Guingamp were lead to 10th place, managing impressive victories against Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco.
Therefore, it is no surprise that Lille fans are hoping for Gourvennec's services as manager, having taken a relative French minnow to become a respectable side.

Should be a good appointment man, did good things with guinea-pig in my save!
Love how John Carver is in the running, could you perhaps run that as a separate thread to allow NUFC fans to laugh at how badly he'd do?
