I agree, on paper they do look a good proposition and should do well.

I usually get in Ezequiel Garay, a really good defender,(if he is on 7.5m min rel) though he is only 22yo great player esp with set-pieces, and\or mattia Cassani wb\l\r he is great cover for bale\chimbo

If I can, I either get Ismeal Aissati or Jeremy Menez for left wing

I think you are right the training isn`t so important, maybe I`ll have to look closer at my tactics. Though I uesd to do fine in previous FMs.

Heres last night games that I played:

New game:
---------
Won 2-0 v Birmingham
drew 1-1 chelsea
drew 1-1 man utd
drew 3-3 bolton
won 1-0 liverpool
-------------------above are nice results for spurs-------
lost 2-1 blackburn
won 3-0 euro cup FC groningen
lost 4-0 west ham
lost 2-1 everton league cup

here on I just can`t stop the rot, bad result after bad result usually follows and I`m lucky to finish in top half of table.

RedArmy20 : spurs is maybe one of the easiest teams, i mean to make them big.

all you need is to sell a few players, buy a few defenders, spurs already got some good players. but still it isnt that hard with spurs tbh.

and its not about the training i think.

i can upload my basic trainings, but that wont help much, plus u gotta rest your team once in a while.

and use proper tactics...:O_o
as you said, training is not so important.about my trainings, well i think it is not so hard.i mean,i play with Barnet, with many weak players, and they are not tiring of the training.

red army is right, just buy some good players.do not buy young players, that is for teams in the second league,if you want to win league, you must have more experienced and players with good mental strength.

Listen you can not play every game great,of course there will be some bad results after series of good results.look at your tactics, when your team play bad, look at them,on their play, and see what is wrong, who is bad,and think what to change.
about FM07 tactics,well i also tried that,and it didn't work,cause this game still have bugs,especially in tactics.

and i noticed that team talks are VERY important,so choose wisely what are you going to say to them, and pre game talk is important.when i let my assistant to talk to them, they play bad,so when i do that, they are better.

i change my tactics(mostly orders, sometimes formation) about 3-4 times for a season.for example,my team starts to play bad in february, and then i change some things.of course you can not play every game with same tactic.
here are some examples:3276-now.jpg
omg so many tactis.

i got like 2 tactics that i play with, 4-4-2 diamond and 4-4-2

i just need to have perfect "personal instructions"

Thanks Bole the formations are useful, but as RedArmy says, I think the personal instructions are the key part to the tactic, esp if you don`t really understand (like me) the best way to play MC`s or fullback etc.
the default settings as usual seem to get you nowhere much.
I agree fully Bole that team-talks have a huge effect on results, prob too much considering the very limited options available.

As for your Arsenal formation, if I played my fullbacks against them like that that would slaughter me. Against Arse\Man U\Chels I always do 100% closing down, tight marking, slow play, short passing, counter attack, zonal marking, 4-5-1. In other words stop them playing and I usually get a draw or sneak a lucky win in the last 10 mins when they pour forward to go for the win. If I play any other way I usually get slaughtered :-)

A good point about young players there, Spurs have very young team, Gareth Bale is just 17yo yet he is down as Important First Team Player, but he is nowhere near good enough yet and costs many goals, though his free-kicks help keep that down. Problem is I will be sacked before the youngsters improve enough to win anything!

Can anyone suggest the best "personal settings" for full backs, MC and DMC and , well all of them please?

by the way rindhoops

i dont know why, but if i got 2 really good strikers with good passing ability i usually have them "switch positions" with each other, and "direct" passing, and through balls often.

i dont know why but the likes of cesar delgado(which u should buy to tottenham), and wayne rooney they get like near to 15-20 assists per season.

works really well for me.

but u gotta be patient as well, for me first half of the season usually is shit, i try to have 1 basic tactic like 4-4-2 or 4-4-2 diamond considering how good players i have for which exact positions. and on those tactics i just keep changing the personal instruction and in the second half of the season i really do well, the squad gets going and all and the results start going the right way.

one tip, if u got a brilliant defensive midfielder and a brilliant attacking midfielder then u should play 4-4-2 diamond, u might concede many goals, but you will score plenty...

when i played with ipswich and when in my first season in the premiership i won the carling cup only but over the course of the season i scored over 100 goals, came 2nd in the league as well. conceded around 1.2 goals per match but still the diamond formation helped me win many matches because i scored so many goals going forward.(i won over liverpool 5-3 as well :satisfied)

hehe i know, but i did not have enough midfielders,so i had to do like that.and the other thing is that my defenders are too weak,so arsenal would crush me.i know, i tried.

the thing is,i did not believe that 3-2-2-1-2(Arsenal) and 1-4-1-1-2-1 would work, but they are very good.note that these formation are good for a short time or for some hard games.

4-4-2 is standard of course, and best for most games, but in some games there is a better way to win by playing some variation.3-2-2-1-2- are good because in attack it transforms in 3-4-3,so it is attacking, and about 1-4-1-1-2-1 and some other tactics you can find info at:http://www.fmscout.com/forums.php?m=posts&q=96

look at this 3276-bez naslova.jpg
just want to say, these formations are good, because they are defensive, and in attack they are very offensive.

of course instructions is important thing, and very important advice about that is KEEP IT SIMPLE.
hey RedArmy that "swap position" thing is good.i tried it with my MC's and they are great.

i've just started new season i again(as at every start) i play 4-4-2.

hey Red Army can you post your DM's profile ????
to be honest bole, i am too tired to put on fm at the moment but the main things to have for a good DM:

positioning, passing, tackling, work rate, team work, stamina.

and heading if possible(if u really want a good defence that is).

positioning is very very important because he is the one to be filling up at the back, and in that way if u play with a diamond formation and letting ur full backs a bit attacking then ur defensive midfielder has to be set to mentality: "defensive", and normal creative freedom, this with creative freedom might be a bit harsh considering that many midfielders are good passers and usually creative even though defensive, BUT he will be controlling much of the play trust me, and if he gets the freedom he will loose the ball too often.

i had huddlestone as my DM in my ipswich team, he is not the best i know, but it worked really well. otherwise hargreaves is the best with gattuso(the best defensive mids).

i had Eguren(from hammarby) in my first season at ipswich he is a really good defensive midfielder for a lower league team. gets many red and yellow cards though.

by the way i just realized i had BOUGHt Veloso, perfect defensive midfielder for a diamond formation.
well i do not play diamond, but maybe i will try it.
by the way i have DM with:
positioning 15
passing 16
tackling 16
work rate 16
teamwork 15
stamina 17

can he do the job ?????????
thats quite so good bole, positioning is quite so important though, would be better if he had 20 :p, but for me it worked with huddlestone who i think has 16 in positioning.
here are some of my tactics, you might have to change a bit of the personal instructions.

AND i dont know when i updated these tactics, because i dont save tactics that often, but these might help.

AND if you use my 4-4-2 tactic then u got to see one of the CM has defensive tactics and one attacking.

AND remember if u play with diamond then your AM should have forward runs often, if he is like "Aimar" then have him on free role, run with ball often, through balls often. if he is good on crossing as well then have him cross often as well.

well, right now i do not need any tactics,my is good for now.but thanks anyway i will try it in some cup games:)
...and the link is not working

Well, I started a new game, yet again.
I paid attention to every detail from scratch,
especially the tactics, and it paid off.
I won my first 5 games, but...

yet again, on exactly the 6th match the same players that one match previous were beating better teams quite easily,
simply would not play. I expected this as it happens every
game I play in.

I checked they were not tired, I checked they were happy,
morale is very high, they are all in superb condition
and my tactics worked splendidly in my last 5 games without a hitch.

Of course, I know you can`t keep it going long, esp with a young side like Spurs, but it is the manner of the loss, and the following losses against even lesser opposition does not make sense.

As I knew this would happen I saved the game off after my fifth win.
To try and find out what the problem is replayed match 6 with a totally different team and tactics, same result, I wouldn`t mind if they played well and lost, I`d blame my tactics, but the loss is so far out f context it doesn`t make sense.

Looking at the team after the fifth game I can only see two possible reasons for this strange collapse, neither of which I am convined is the problem.

Internationals:
Most of my first team played in Internationals after game 5,
so I replayed game 6 giving the ones that had played a day off training,
or left them out of the team, they still played bad and lost.

The only other change I can see is a lot of injured players coming back into training, key players like King\lennon\Dawson, I would of thought the team that I had been playing would play even better knowing their places were at risk rather than give in?

I am at a total loss as to why this happens every time, the timing is bad as it means going out of the Euro and League cups in the first matches
and the players go into a huff and play terrible for a long time afterwards.

I really hope S.I hasn`t put a routine in that stops you doing well in the first season or something? Surely that would be against the spirit of the game? And would make it pointless to play for me.

Any ideas anyone?
