How do I add players to shortlist in an acceptable way?

I'm obviously doing something wrong here. It is a legal Steam version of the game, it is version 16.3.1 789819 (m.e v1632) and both Genie Scout and Football Manager 2016 have been rebooted.

So what have I done wrong?

edit. Now that I check more carefully, they have to be in the "scouted" list, it works then. How do I add players there without actually scouting them?

edit2. And now it doesn't work from there either. Is there just plain and simply a way to use the old style of "save shortlist and open it with Genie Scout"? It was simple to use and worked perfectly.

edit3. And now it works for some reason as expected ("All known players" visible in FM, hit Load in Genie Scout and done). Am I the only one for who this is unstable?

Does this work for others? For me at best it is unstable, at worst it just refuses to load anything.

I have some issues relating to shortlists too - maybe the other way around, though. What I have always done is search in Genie Scout, then save the results as a shortlist, which I would then import into the game's shortlists.

The issues are as follows:
1. Genie Scout saves shortlists in .slf format - which has always been fine in the past, but now the game uses a format called .fmf and won't even recognise the .slf files.
2. Genie Scout won't even open shortlists which it has created - which seems to mean that the same search has to be repeated every time.

I don't understand why this has suddenly changed, or why it's not possible to save shortlists in the correct format. Perhaps I'm missing something really obvious, but I have never had any problems in the past - and as it stands, this version doesn't do what I need it to do.

I'm kind of surprised I can't find answers for this here - which is why I think maybe I'm missing something.

One thing I found out is that you have to load the game to Genie Scout, then first load you _default_ short list to GS, then something else. Loading "all known players" directly doesn't work, you absolutely have to load first your default list.
