Monaco prepare for the season ahead

The Red and Whites are currently in Serbia preparing for the upcoming Ligue 1 season, after announcing their new manager in the form of 38 year old Englishman Bernard Saunders from the city of Wolverhampton, which hosts around 250,000 people.

Saunders has no previous experience within management but has coached at local side Wolverhampton Wanderers for a number of years and has gained a reputation for his knowledge of the game.

There are various reports saying that within his first day in the job he has approached a number of players about joining his side for the upcoming season, and it seems as if fans will not be waiting long to see improvements to the squad.

The sides first training session in Serbia was underway today, with players such as Bakayoko (pictured) looking fit and ready for the upcoming season. Fans are surprised that Saunders has been given the opportunity, but hope that he can surprise the world by becoming a success.

Monaco sign five as training continues

AS Monaco have confirmed the signing of five players as their training camp in Serbia continues. A host of players from the club's youth system have exited on loan, as well as goalkeeper Seydou Sy leaving to join Liverpool for a fee of around £400,000.

The first of the new signings that Monaco announced came as no surprise, with hotly-tipped Serbian starlet Andrija Zivkovic joining from Partizan for £2,500,000. It is widely considered in the French press that one of the main reasons Saunders chose to train in Serbia is so that he could personally see the winger play. Zivkovic evidently impressed and has completed his move to the French league, and is ready to link up with his new team in training tomorrow.

Bulgarian midfielder Bozhidar Kraev also joined for the exact same fee, but will not be joining the side in training, and will instead move to Belgian side KV Mechelen on loan for the remainder of the season. Saunders deems the youngster to need to grow abroad before he is able to make a positive contribution to the first team squad.

The trend seemed to continue throughout the day, with only young players with a lot of potential joining. The third to be announced was Mikkel Duelund, from FC Midtjylland for around £2,000,000.

Another young starlet with a bright future ahead of him was announced much later in the day, with Tiziano Tulissi joining for a similar fee to Duelund. Tulissi was pictured as arriving at a local Serbian airport before the club announced his signing.

The final signing they announced came just before the early hours of the morning, with young French player Aksel Aktas, at only fifteen years old, joining for a minute fee from FC Sochaux-Montbé.

Pre-Season 2015/16

Evian TG FC 2 - 1 AS Monaco FC
Pre-season began with the first of a number of away trips around France. The first of these being against Evian. The game was all but over after half an hour, when all three goals had been scored. Bernardo Silva netted Monaco's only goal.

Chamois Niortais FC 1 - 1 AS Monaco FC
Monaco's unfortunate start to the pre-season continued as an early goal left the side stunned. A late goal from Lacina Traore saved any more embarrassment.

AC Arles-Avingnon 0 - 9 AS Monaco FC
The side's form seemed to significantly improve in this game, as the side brushed Avingnon swiftly under the carpet. Goals from Nabil Dirar (2), Hélder Costa, Lacina Traore (2), Fares Bahlouli (3) and Ivan Cavaleiro secured what was a rout away from home.

Grenoble Foot 38 1 - 1 AS Monaco FC
A very early goal from Vagner Love could not stop another draw in pre-season as Grenoble equalised before the half hour mark.

UEFA Champions League Best Placed Qual.3 Leg 1 - AS Monaco FC 2 - 1 RSC Anderlecht
Monaco made their first steps into Europe this season with a convincing win against Anderlecht. Joao Moutinho gave Monaco the lead within the first twenty minutes, and Monaco looked in control for the majority of the first half. Praet equalised for Anderlecht after sixty minutes, and it took a last minute goal from Ivan Cavaleiro to give Monaco the win, despite their control over the game.

Le Mans FC 1 - 1 AS Monaco FC
Monaco added another draw to their repertoire in this current pre-season agaisnt Le Mans. Elderson Echiejile scored in the 66th minute, but the opposition managed to pull one back directly after.

UEFA Champions League Best Placed Qual.3 Leg 2 - RSC Anderlecht 0 - 2 AS Monaco
The French side secured their place in the Best Placed Playoffs with a goal from Lacina Traore and another from hotly-tipped midfielder Thomas Lemar.
Some good signings and an important win in the Champions League playoff
Very good formatting in this, although I wasn't aware than Bakayoko was white... haha. I have found in my Toulouse save that AS Monaco truly underachieve, they are the best positioned to knock Paris Saint-Germain off their perch at the start and I hope you are able to do so!
Some great young signings here mate keep it up
@Ninjaskill - Thanks for the kind words!

@Griffo - Cheers! I couldn't make out who the white player was, but knew one of the background players was Bakayoko. :P

@BeanyUnited - Thank you

Monaco to face Man City

In the final game of Champions League qualification, AS Monaco have been drawn against Premier League outfit Manchester City, with the first leg at the City of Manchester Stadium.

The game will be played over two legs which will both be a tough test for the French side, playing against a side with what some would consider "bigger names" in their squad.

A win over two legs will see Monaco qualify for the group stages, but if they lose they will be played within the Europa League, which could be an easier prospect for new manager Bernard Saunders.

Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar, in an interview with LigueSport.com said:

"They're definitely a tough team to play against, but I do not think anyone is too big for us. We will certainly give it a good shot."
Tough... tough... draw...
@Griffo - Indeed! Will be updating this on Sunday probably with a few updates.
