I'm writing another take on my career stories on the back of "Spurs - A Journey" so hopefully you'll follow me in this one too for a different view right from where it all started.. Hope you all enjoy..
Who is The Professor?
Well before he started into a managerial career at just 27 years of age after breaking his leg in a match for Spurs against Liverpool at Anfield, he was a lethal striker but onto that later. At school he thrived with 9 GCE's level A-C so he was a very bright lad growing up and athletic at 6 foot tall so sport was what he loved doing the best especially when he had a ball at his feet. He had a rough family life growing up with a brother and a sister both younger than him and his mum and dad separated when he was just 7 years of age so he thought that as the oldest he had to set a working example and helping his mum around the house and bringing up his younger siblings as well as jockeying homework with going out with friends..
Football was his "get out" to take his mind off things when he had the ball at his feet nothing else in the world mattered he was an icon to his friends, he was always the best player when he played for his Sunday League side in the North of England scoring bags full of goals and it was obvious that he will go on a long way in football if he stuck to it and worked hard.
At 14 Tottenham came scouting the young teenager travelling from down south every Sunday after word got around this kid can play and after watching him in action (scoring 4 in 1 U15's game) Spurs already came to a decision that they would sign him up to a scholarship to see how he would fare in the system. On the first day of training he shone out and taking on players 3-4 years older outpacing them and scoring goals for fun this wasn't any ordinary footballer Spurs had a "gem" on their hands....
