The board at Bristol City have announced that Lee Johnson has stepped down from his role as City manager following last season's relegation battle, with ex Bristol City U23 striker and former Yeovil Town striker Liam Drury taking the hotseat.

"I'm pleased to have been given this chance to manage at a club I've played for. I may only be 20 years of age but I want to take this club as far as I can so they can realise their potential and become one of the best teams in England. I've been given a chance and I intend to stay here for the long term. No doubt about that" the new manager stated.

Drury, who came through the Bristol Rovers setup before joining Bristol City at the age of 16, enjoyed loan spells at Bath City and Weston-super-Mare in the season of 2012/2013 before spending the whole 13/14 season out on loan at Yeovil Town, where he lit the league alight by scoring 17 goals in 39 appearances for them. Drury then spent the 14/15 season in the Bristol City U23 squad before enduring a 6-month loan spell at Forest Green during the second half of the 15/16 season.

"I came up through the elite development squads here at Bristol City and because of that, the players down there are my friends but aren't at the same time. I know how good they all are and I'm prepared to give them all a chance if I need to. Some of those players could be seeing loan spells away in the near future but they are part of my long-term plans here" Drury said when asked about youth.
