Following relegation from the Vanarama Conference South – and their third relegation since 2012, the Hayes & Yeading board are finally confident that their fortunes can finally turn after it had announced they will finally play at their new home ground for the first time in five seasons. There is a fresh feeling around the club including fans who are as confident as they’ve ever been ahead of their Southern League campaign, the lowest the level club has ever played at.
With a new home to call their own, a manager who knows the league with his eyes closed there is a reason why the small number of fans can be happy.
Chairman Tony O’Driscoll commented ahead of their first day back at training at the new ground “Fans will be proud, we’ve tried so hard to get back just for the fans, they’ve supported us away from home from five seasons at two different “home” grounds and have always cheered on the team and now it is time we re-pay them”
“I would like to wish we can win the league at our first attempt but this is the lowest we have played at and I can promise now, it will be the lowest we will ever be at there is no going down from here. We are on the up, we can afford to keep a squad together, afford better wages have a budget and of course no crippling fees to Maidenhead or Woking”
With all income now pure profit for this club, I will aim to bring the club I support up the leagues with a squad of players who will play together and for each other with a few former Hayes players returning to help me work my way back up the league.
I am aiming to win the league in my first season as I’ve done it three times before so I am aiming to bring in players who have previously helped me before – along with my knowledge for the league. If I need to spend minimal fees on one or two players, then I will. The youth facilities have also been slightly increased so that I have an opportunity to produce the next Jamie Vardy, Jason Roberts or even Alfie Mawson (if you know who!)
