April Review

So after a very long season it can finally be said that Trent Rovers will still be in the Vanarama North next season. It was definitely not the end of the table the board aimed to be in at the start of the season, but results just wouldn't come, morale was too low within the squad and eventually manager Sam Thompson resigned.

The club showed great ambition to bring in Megan King, the first female to manage a professional side in England. The gamble paid off with Megan quickly moving the club up the table.

As safety had already been guaranteed and play-offs were out of their reach, April was a month where King decided to look to the future instead of the present. W:2, D:1 and L:2.

Altrincham 4 – 5 Trent Rovers

Megan King's Comments: “We got away with that one, every so often we seem to just have a switch that turns us off in the last 20mins when we have a good lead.”

Fans Comments: “That is what football is all about, the ups and the downs,, the jubilation and the nerves, what an epic.”

Trent Rovers 0 – 3 Stockport County

Megan King's Comments: “We weren't good enough today! They wanted it more than us, and it showed.”

Fans Comments: “What a load of crap!”

Stalybridge Celtic 3 – 2 Trent Rovers

Megan King's Comments: “We showed fight to come back from 3-0 behind to 3-2, but we shouldn't have given them that lead in the first place.”

Fans Comments: “I think the players have gone on holiday already, we might be safe, but we should want to finish as high as we can.”

Trent Rovers 3 – 2 FC Halifax

Megan King's Comments: “These last couple of games are about building for next season, especially the confidence they players have in themselves, that win will help.”

Fans Comments: “It's a nice three points, but I just want to find out who we are going to sign in the summer now.”

Darlington 1883 2 – 2 Trent Rovers

Megan King's Comments: “We have a bright future ahead of us, my plan is to start feeding the first team through the youth team, that's our long term plan here.”

Fans Comments: “How old's Nick Cooper again? 16? Wow, he has a bright future ahead of him.”

During the game against Darlington, Megan King started four Youth Team players, Brendan Barnes, Nicholas Wright, Nick Cooper and Matt Rowland with them all impressing, especially central defender Nick Cooper who got himself on the score sheet with a pinpoint header from a Taylor Tombides corner. Do you think they have a chance of making it into the squad over the next couple of years?

The season ended with the Outlaws finishing a very respectable 11th in the Vanarama National North league.

End of Season Awards 2016/17

Commercial Summary 2016/17

Thanks for reading, was touch and go there, but I somehow turned it around to get a respectable finish! Maybe putting the club's morale as one when making the club in the editor wasn't the best idea, but it may have just been my terrible management. Roll on next season.

New Logo and Kits Announced for 2017/18 Season

Trent Rovers have announced that the club will wear a new logo on three new kits for the 2017/18 season which will commemorate the club's 10th year in existence since the switch from Worksop to Newark-on-Trent.

The club believe the slight change in colours will help the club more closely resemble the spirit of Nottinghamshire legend Robin Hood who the club use as their main inspiration for branding.

With this in mind, the centre of the logo has changed to an image depicting Robin Hood alone, instead of the hat and football which donned the old crest.

I have to thank Tallery for inspiring the logo design, cheers pal.
Pre-Season Round-Up

Trent Rovers players have now completed a rigorous first pre-season under Megan King, including tough fitness and team bonding training at Barrel Hill Road, as well as a tough set of fixtures against no less than two Premier League sides.

King has stated that it was important for her side to come up against top opposition, so that they could test their skills against the highest calibre of players.

She said “Sometimes a heavy defeat is more constructive than a big win. A big win against poor opposition can cover the cracks, a heavy defeat against top opposition puts them out in the open, so you can fix them when there isn't anything riding on it.”

Meet the New Players

Outlaws manager Megan King has signed 7 new players for the up-coming season, hoping they will help the team achieve their aim of reaching the play-offs.

August Review

An absolutely sublime start to the season for Trent Rovers! Megan King's reboot of the squad looks to have worked a treat with the Outlaws finishing the month with W:5, D:0 and L:1.

The one defeat to North Ferriby was the only disappointing part of the season.

Stafford 1 – 4 Trent Rovers

Megan King's Comments: “We did everything right today. I was impressed with 16 year old Nick Cooper when he came on, he really steadied the defence after Martin Riley was sent off.”

Fan's Comments: “Martin Riley looks like a waste of space already... who gets sent off on their debut, and he's Club captain!”

Trent Rovers 3 – 1 Corby Town

Megan King's Comments: “Another superb win, and Nick Cooper played the full match and is really impressing me!”

Fan's Comments: “Hopefully that'll be the first of many wins at home!”

Nuneaton Town 0 – 3 Trent Rovers

Megan King's Comments: “First clean sheet of the season, always a relieve when it comes, especially after last season!”

Fan's Comments: “HE'S ONE OF OUR OWN, HE'S ONE OF OUR OWN, NICKY COOPER, HE'S ONE OF OUR OWN!!!”

Trent Rovers 1 – 2 North Ferriby United

Megan King's Comments: “We weren't god enough today, that was a match we should be winning, although credit to Ferriby they put their chances away really well.”

Fan's Comments: “Hopefully this is just a blip in the road, we were lucky to even get a goal today. Now Louis Theophanous is injured we have no goals in our squad.”

Trent Rovers 4 – 1 AFC Fylde

Megan King's Comments: “They are going to be up their by the end of the season, so taking three points off them now is brilliant.”

Fan's Comments: “Looks like we do have goals in us after all, even if it's being able to force own goals... better than nothing.”

Stalybridge Celtic1 – 3 Trent Rovers

Megan King's Comments: “Another good win, can't fault the lads today... a great end to a really good month.”

Fan's Comments: “Taylor Tombides is better than this League, I'm happy no one is sniffing around, but I'm surprised!”

After a brilliant month, the Outlaws sit top of the Vanarama North table and are looking strong enough to achieve their aims of finishing in the play-offs.

Megan King's Player of the Month was 16 year old centre-back Nick Cooper.

September's fixtures look like this:-

Thanks for reading guys, would love to hear from some of you if you're liking the story.

September Review

Can't say I'm happy with the results in September, some terrible performances meant Trent slid down the table.

However, there was a silver lining – getting to the 4th Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, which could be a great way for the club to stay stable, with owner Ken Lisworth currently keeping the club afloat with money out of his own pocket.

W:3, D:2 and L:2

Tamworth 2 – 2 Trent Rovers

Megan King's Comments: “We let those two points slip right at the very end, I've let the team know I wasn't happy with the defending in the last 10 minutes, but our offensive movement as shown last month is fantastic.”

Fan's Comments: “All in all, I have to say I'm happy with that result, they kept pushing and pushing at the end and got their just reward, we just could have done better stopping that.”

Trent Rovers 0 – 2 Kidderminster Harriers

Megan King's Comments: “We weren't good enough today, Kidderminster are one of the better teams in the League, but so are we - we should have bought more to the game than we did.”

Fan's Comments: “Except for more goals, I actually wonder what King has bought to the team! Her defence is just as bad as Thompson's.”

FC Halifax 1 – 1 Trent Rovers

Megan King's Comments: “BJ got us out of that one with a last gasp goal. I'm under no illusions that we need to get back to last months form, because at the moment we don't look like the same team.”

Fan's Comments: “We should have got more out of the game, but we didn't so we'll move on and look back pissed off when we miss out on the play-offs by 2 points.”

Trent Hit by Injuries

Trent Rovers have been hit by injuries to no less than four of Megan King's key players including both star Strikers Louie Theophanous and Rees Wedderburn, as well as both first choice full-backs Andrew Burns and Ben Gordon.

King is believed to be looking to the large squad already at her disposal to find replacements, with a number of fringe players champing at the bit to get game time to show what they can do.

Hitchin Town 0 – 1 Trent Rovers – FA Cup 2nd Qual. Rnd

Megan King's Comments: “I'm happy we are in the next round, I think we can get good momentum out of a run in the FA Cup.”

Fan's Comments: “We need to play better than that against better teams, but a win is a win.”

Trent Rovers 0 – 3 Harrogate Town

Megan King's Comments: “We weren't close to being good enough today, they need to book their ideas up and quick.”

Fan's Comments: “What a load of crap!”

Wisdom Returns to Injury Hit Outlaws

Trent Rovers manager Megan King has recalled Danny Wisdom from Hednesford Town where he had spent the last couple of months on loan.

The left-back made 8 appearances for the Pitmen while at the Northern Premier Premier side, making 2 assists.

He is expected to make his way back in the team, with King's squad looking threadbare in that position.

Macclesfield Town 1 – 3 Trent Rovers

Megan King's Comments: “Wow, what a performance! We did everything right today.”

Fan's Comments: “I think we can kick ourselves out of this inconsistent run if we keep playing like that, then we can get back on track.”

Nick Cooper Signs Pro Deal

Trent Rovers's very promising defensive prospect Nick Cooper has signed a three-year professional contract with the Outlaws after turning 17 years old.

The youngster has made 6 appearances for the Outlaws so far, and was also voted as Manager Megan King's player of the month for September.

Leamington 1 – 2 Trent Rovers – FA Cup 3rd Qual. Rnd

Megan King's Comments: “We are so close to the 1st round proper. The players know how important it is to get there, so whoever we face will have a fight on their hands.”

Fan's Comments: “I would have been surprised if we didn't win that game...”

After a mixed bag of results in September the Outlaws currently sit in 4th place, still within the play-off places, but only by 2 points.

Megan King's player of the month award has gone to Martin Riley who made some fantastic performances throughout the month, before injury left him out of the last game against Leamington.

October's fixtures look like this:-

Thanks for your continued support guys, really appreciate it.
Vanarama North – 2017/18

October Review

Another strange month for Trent Rovers, the two defeats to Altrincham and Gainsborough were definitely the lowest points. Losing three wingers didn't help, but it was definitely far too soon for Billy Thomas so I'm regretting playing him.

The positives were two solid wins in the League, two good draws and getting through to the First Round of the FA Cup, which is massive!

W:3. D:2 and L:3.

AFC Telford 3 – 2 Trent Rovers

Megan King's Comments: “I'm disappointed after that, we should have seen out the game and grabbed a point, but instead they stole all three from us with not long to go.”

Fan's Comments: “We scored, thought we'd got the point, let our guard down and they capitalised on it. What terrible defending.”

Trent Rovers 1 – 1 Stockport County

Megan King's Comments: “It's about slowly regaining that form we found at the start of the season, we know we have it in us, we just need a bit of luck. A point today will go towards that.”

Fan's Comments: “A points better than nothing, but would have liked all three.”

Trent Rovers 5 – 2 Hartlepool United – FA Cup 4th Qual. Rnd

Megan King's Comments: “We did absolutely everything right today, really can't praise the team enough after that performance.”

Fan's Comments: “WHAT A RESULT!! Finally we are back in the proper FA Cup, I've missed the buzz of it.”

Darlington 1883 1 – 1 Trent Rovers

Megan King's Comments: “It's a case of putting so much effort into the Hartlepool game, we looked a bit burned out today!”

Fan's Comments: “We should have won that, there's no excuses in my eyes.”

Trent Lose Key Player

Trent Rovers' young talisman Taylor Tombides, who has been a shining star for the Outlaws since signing last season, has been dealt a major injury blow.

The 21-year old winger will miss up to six weeks of action due to a damaged knee cartilage which he picked up during the game against Darlington 1883.

Recent signing Jordan Chapell is expected to take his place in the squad.

Trent Rovers 2 – 1 Solihull Moors

Megan King's Comments: “There's still a long way to go, but results like that fill me with confidence for the rest of the season.”

Fan's Comments: “A great win for the lads today.”

Trent Rovers 2 – 1 Bradford PA

Megan King's Comments: “Another fantastic win, the players are really playing as a team now.”

Fan's Comments: “Now that's a result we can be proud of.”

Youngster to Make Debut

16 year-old Youth Team prospect Billy Thomas is expected to make his first team debut for Trent Rovers, due to the club's injury problems.

No less than three first team wingers (Taylor Tombides, Bobby-Joe Taylor and Jordan Chapell) are currently out of action due to injury.

This has forced Manager Megan King to call-up First Year Scholar Billy Thomas, who has recently been impressing for the under-18s and under-23 sides to start for the Outlaws against Altrincham.

Trent Rovers 0 – 3 Altrincham

Megan King's Comments: “I can't describe the feeling in the dressing room right now, it's a mixture of embarrassment, regret and passion to make it right to the fans.”

Fan's Comments: “What the hell was that? Thought we were going in the right direction, bit that was just embarrassing.”

Gainsborough Trinity 4 – 3 Trent Rovers

Megan King's Comments: “Those three goals make the score look a little less embarrassing, but i'm ignoring them because we still didn't get anything out of the game and we were disgraceful.”

Fan's Comments: “I never thought I'd be nearly happy with a 4-3 defeat, but going from four goals behind to nearly getting a point, that's some serious class from the side. The defence need to all be sacked though!!”

After a number of disappointing results throughout the month, the Outlaws have moved out of the play-off zone for the first time this season lying in 8th place in the Vanarama North. However, the club getting through to the First Round of the FA Cup is a massive lift for the Club, and will hopefully lead to a big cash windfall for Trent as they play League Two side Carlisle United.

Megan King's player of the month award has gone to Louis Theophanous, he scored eight crucial goals for the team after coming back from injury late last month.

November's fixtures look like this:-

Thanks for reading guys.
Vanarama North – 2017/18

November Review

After November I have to say I am optimistic for the future, okay we may have only won two games, but we managed to take League Two Carlisle United to a replay and thrash Macclesfield in the FA Trophy.

With that in mind I have hope we will finish in the play-offs, injuries are a bitch though so anything can happen.

W:2. D:1 and L:2

Trent Hit By More Injuries

Ahead of there massive game against League Two side Carlisle United in the FA Cup, Trent Rovers have announced a further injury to the their ravaged squad.

Danny Denholm has become the fourth winger in the squad to join the already packed physio room at Barrel Hill Road. However, there is hope Bobby-Joe Taylor will be available for the match in some capacity, he will have to go through a rigorous fitness test before the match.

Trent Rovers 2 – 2 Carlisle United – FA Cup 1st Round

Megan King's Comments: “We matched a side two leagues above today and I can't hide how happy I am. Although, I'm also disappointed because we could have got even more out of the match.”

Fan's Comments: “Should have won today, I doubt we'll get anything from them at there own place.”

Trent Rovers 3 – 2 FC United of Manchester

Megan King's Comments: “Winning when you have as many injuries as we do, is a nice feeling. It shows we have real squad depth here.”

Fan's Comments: “Another great win, I think we'll keep moving up the table now.”

Carlisle United 2 – 0 Trent Rovers – FA Cup 1st Round Replay

Megan King's Comments: “We would have like to have gone further in this competition, but it wasn't meant to be.”

Fan's Comments: “They showed there class today, and that we have a long way to go if we want to match these types of sides.again”

Alfreton Town 1 – 0 Trent Rovers

Megan King's Comments: “We will get bumps in the road, this is a very competitive League, but we know we will pick ourselves up and keep competing.”

Fan's Comments: “My mate at work supports Alfreton, I'm never gonna hear the last of this... cheers Megan.”

Trent Sign Palmer

Trent Rovers have signed Defensive Forward Ollie Palmer on a free transfer after the 26 year old was released by Leyton Orient in the Summer.

Megan King believes that this addition to the squad will bring even better fire power to the Outlaws in there search for a play-off place.

Trent Rovers 3 – 0 Macclesfield Town – FA Trophy 3rd Qual. Rnd

Megan King's Comments: “A great win, we're still in the cup and we have high hopes for our chances in this competition.”

Fan's Comments: “A great win, but we need to be winning in the League... I don't care about the FA Trophy.”

After one win and one defeat in the Vanarama North, the Outlaws have stayed in eighth place in the League.

Megan King's player of the month award has gone to Darren Carter, who helped the team's cause with three penalties in November including two against Macclesfield in the FA Trophy.

December's fixtures look like this:-

Vanarama North – 2017/18

December Review

WHAT. A. MONTH. I definitely wasn't expecting to go unbeaten in the league throughout the month going into December, but that is exactly what happened. Unbelievable.

W:5, D:0 and L:1.

Trent Rovers 4 – 0 Chorley

Megan King's Comments: “A thoroughly professional display from the lads today, we put everything into getting that result and it showed.”

Fan's Comments: “What a win that was. More of that please lads!”

AFC Telford 3 – 1 Trent Rovers – FA Trophy 1st Round

Megan King's Comments: “Can't say I'm too disappointed, we need no distractions to get as far as we can in the League... and this was just a needless distraction.”

Fan's Comments: “Disappointing, but if having less fixtures helps us in the League than so be it.”

Trent Rovers 3 – 0 Stafford Rangers

Megan King's Comments: “A fantastic performance from the lads today, they didn't put a foot wrong.”

Fan's Comments: “Another epic win, I think we are on to something here...”

Corby Town 1 – 4 Trent Rovers

Megan King's Comments: “We've found our rhythm after a lot of injuries hindered us and long may it continue.”

Fan's Comments: “Trent are on fire, top of the League are terrified...”

North Ferriby United 2 – 3 Trent Rovers

Megan King's Comments: “We should real fight and courage to turn that result around today, I'm becoming more and more proud of the lads as the weeks go on.”

Fan's Comments: “That is what football is all about, a last minute winner, after being two nil down. I Love You Megan King, marry me?”

Trent Rovers 3 – 0 Nuneaton Town

Megan King's Comments: “It's funny how one good month can make people talk about the two p words, i'd love to be that optimistic, but there's a long way to go yet.”

Fan's Comments: “We are going up, say we are going up!”

Megan King's player of the month award has gone to Rees Wedderburn, who scored 5 goals and made 3 assists throughout the month to really push the side up the table.

After a fantastic month, the Outlaws now sit 2nd in the Vanarama North.

January's fixtures look like this:-

Thanks for reading guys.
Vanarama North – 2017/18

January Review

A very Jekyll and Hyde month for Trent Rovers in January, the Outlaws were excellent at home winning three out of three. However, away from Barrel Hill Road, they were a little less successful with a draw and a defeat in their two away games.

Although this form is capable of keeping us in the running for a play-off place, knowing how good the squad is, I can't help but be a little disappointed.

W:3, D:1 and L:1.

Wedderburn Extends Outlaws Stay

Striker Rees Wedderburn has signed a new contract with Trent Rovers which will see him stay with the club for another two-years.

The target man has impressed since signing on a free transfer since signing for Trent Rovers in the summer of 2016, scoring 29 goals and making 29 assists in 69 appearances.

Trent End Margetts Loan

Trent Rovers manager Megan King has decided to terminate Scunthorpe United striker Jonny Margett's loan deal with the Outlaws.

The Target Man made 13 appearances while at Trent, scoring 2 goals and making 1 assist.

Trent Rovers 1 – 0 Stalybridge Celtic

Megan King's Comments: “Another hard fought win, we were maybe a little bit lucky getting a goal, but I'm very happy with our defensive display.”

Fan's Comments: “We have to keep winning, we have two tough games coming up, so that'll be when we see what we're made of.”

AFC Fylde 3 – 2 Trent Rovers

Megan King's Comments: “That was a tough result to take, we were 2-0 up and ended up losing. Credit to Fylde though, they showed their promotion credentials, maybe we'll have to wait another year!?”

Fan's Comments: “What a load of s**t!”

Kidderminster Harriers 1 – 1 Trent Rovers

Megan King's Comments: “We took a point against top of the league, they are above the level of this League by a mile... and we matched them!”

Fan's Comments: “Better than nothing I guess, they are going to win the League so if we keep winning every other game, we'll be in the play-offs.”

Trent Rovers 2 – 1 Tamworth

Megan King's Comments: “Fantastic win today, we were excellent.”

Fan's Comments: “Another three points, excellent, now lets move onto the next one.”

Trent Rovers 3 – 1 FC Halifax

Megan King's Comments: “Fantastic win, we put them to the sword today and I'm really pleased.”

Fan's Comments: “Great win, let's keep it up lads.”

Megan King's player of the month award has gone to Louie Theophanous, who scored three goals in three games before injury caused him to miss the last two games.

Added Extra

I'm feeling generous, so here is the first game of February..

Harrogate Town 2 – 2 Trent Rovers

Megan King's Comments: “We need to keep working hard and getting points to stay in the play-offs. I'm disappointed that we didn't win, but the point will go nicely to our cause.”

Fan's Comments: “Wow, that was a bit of a feisty game. They didn't let us play so we went down to there level, so a point is probably better than nothing.”

After January and the first game of February, Trent Rovers sit in 2nd place in the League, and with only 11 games left the Outlaws are moving ever closer to booking a place in the Vanarama North play-offs.

February's fixtures look like this:-

February Review

Another solid month for the Outlaws, we are so close to the play-offs now, I can almost taste it!

W:2, D:1 and L:1.

Trent Rovers 2 – 1 Macclesfield Town

Megan King's Comments: “It was good to have Louie back, he really gives this team extra verve going forward.”

Fan's Comments: “Another win, another three points, we are so close now!”

Trent Rovers 1 – 0 AFC Telford

Megan King's Comments: “In my eyes it's the team who can play badly and still win who are true winners.”

Fan's Comments: “We weren't good enough today, so were lucky to get the three points.”

Stockport County 2 – 1 Trent Rovers

Megan King's Comments: “We weren't good enough today! They out played us in every position and we need to book our ideas up.”

Fan's Comments: “Well... that was disappointing, didn't look like team I've been watching recently at all.”

Megan King's player of the month award has gone to Danny Denholm who helped the Outlaws keep up there search for a play-off place with two goals and one assist in four appearances.

After a decent set of results in February, Trent Rovers still sit 2nd in the League. They are currently in pole position for the Vanarama North play-off places. Unfortunately, Kidderminster have put themselves so far ahead of the pack that it will be almost impossible to catch them now.

March's fixtures look like this:-

Vanarama North – 2017/18

March Review

What a great month, another undefeated month and a great couple of wins to almost book a place into the play-offs, if only we could have beaten Gainsborough!

W:3, D:1 and L:0.

Bradford PA 0 – 2 Trent Rovers

Megan King's Comments: “Another excellent win, the team are really coming into their own now and I have full confidence they will get the job done.”

Fan's Comments: “We are going up, say we are going up!”

Solihull Moors 1 – 2 Trent Rovers

Megan King's Comments: “Although he didn't score I think today was the first game Ollie Palmer really showed why we bought him into the club, he caused their defence havoc today.”

Fan's Comments: “MEGAN KING'S OUTLAW ARMY!!”

Trent Extend Four Contracts

Megan King has extended the contracts of four Trent Rovers players for an extra year; Ben Herd, Danny Denholm, Liam Prynn and Kyran Wiltshire.

Trent Rovers 3 – 2 Darlington 1883

Megan King's Comments: “I'm happy with the win, but we can play better than the performance we put on today, and I'll be expecting that in the next game.”

Fan's Comments: “MEGAN KING'S OUTLAW ARMY!!”

Trent Close to Play-off Place

Trent Rovers could book a place in the Vanarama North Play-offs with a win against Gainsborough Trinity in their next match.

The board ecstatic that manager Megan King has got them one game away from the aim they put in place at the start of the season, and have every faith the team can finish off the job.

Trent Rovers 2 – 2 Gainsborough Trinity

Megan King's Comments: “That was disappointing, a win could have secured a play-off place for us, but now we'll have to wait at least another match.”

Fan's Comments: “I think we'll still make the play-offs, but drawing games isn't going to get us promoted...”

Megan King's player of the month award has gone to Martin Riley who was a rock at the back throughout the month, and also helped the cause by scoring two goals.

The Outlaws sit 2nd in the League with only 4 games left... UP THE OUTLAWS.

April's fixtures look like this:-

Vanarama North – 2017/18

April Review

WE ARE IN THE PLAY-OFFS! It has been a long hard season, and I did doubt that it would be possible more than a few times, but the players pulled through and showed great spirit to bounce back from any defeat.

The thing I'm most excited about is that we are unbeaten in 8 games, which is a great run to go into the play-offs with. Also at home, we haven't lost a game in 14 matches, and with the deciding match being at Barrel Hill Road, that is a great advantage.
