Inter Miami FC are a professional football club in Miami, Florida. Founded by ex-footballer David Beckham in 2014, the club will enter the MLS in 2017 as one of two expansion teams, the other being Minnesota United. They will compete in the Eastern Conference, and form a rivalry with fellow Florida club Orlando City SC.


On the 5th of February 2014, David Beckham announced the newest MLS expansion franchise, Inter Miami FC. The club will join the MLS Eastern Conference in 2017 and will be entirely privately funded, with Beckham as the major investor and chairman of the squad.

MLS franchise owner David Beckham has revealed the identity of his new club, with Inter Miami Football Club set to enter the MLS in just under 3 years time. The brand saw its launch today at a press conference in Miami.

Beckham, along with a number of key investors in the side including acclaimed inventor Elon Musk, unveiled the club's logo, kits and colours as well as the centrepiece, the name of the franchise. Beckham also spoke of his plan's for the team.

"I want to build a team in Miami that will capture everyone's imagination. This is your club, one that I want you to be proud of."

The name Inter Miami was chosen due to the melting point of nationalities in Miami, many of them with a football background. Furthermore, the word 'International' easily translates into many languages including Spanish (Internacional) and Italian (Internazionale).


The new Inter logo is simplistic and flat, encompassing major aspects of Miami culture, including the sun, the sea, the sunrise and a football, for obvious reasons.


The colours of the club take inspiration from the Miami skyline, the stunning turquoise open, and the Miami Dade flag.

Inter Miami owner David Beckham has announced he will have an active role in the club's backroom whilst retaining his job as chairman. The 41 year old has owned property in Miami since 2013 but will now live in the US on a permanent basis.

Beckham's role is thought to be comparable to Ed Woodward at Manchester United, with a large control over finances and player recruitment, whilst leaving most of the training and tactics responsibilities to the coaching staff. Beckham has also confirmed he will be in charge of recruiting staff to the club.

"I know I'm not the most adept in terms of the tactics of football but I know about recruitment, about networking; I'm a people person. I never wanted to sit back and simply be a chairman, this club is my brainchild and so I wanted to be an active part of it."

With 2 months until the beginning of pre-season, Inter Miami are thought to have upped their search for the club's first manager. As of yet, no favourites are apparent.
