Monthly Overview

September saw us kick off our Champions League campaign for real, with matches against Red Bull Leipzig and Barcelona, as well as a League Cup tie, and tough league matches against the likes of Chelsea and Crystal Palace.

It was good to get a solid month of results under our belt, and I was pleased with how the team seemed to have gelled with so many new signings; i'll admit a level of concern around our inability to put away Crystal Palace and Brighton, but for now we're still picking up the results against the big teams, and that's the important part: the rest should fall into place with time.

Player of the Month: Dejan Lovren

Lovren was a quiet, unassuming presence in the club dressing room, but once he stepped onto the pitch, the Croatian was utterly transformed; marshalling the Liverpool defence and breaking up opposition attacks with ease. Lovren was a massive factor in Liverpool going through the month without conceding a single goal, and his ability to recycle possession allowed the team to build their attacking phases from defence, and retain possession throughout every phase of play.

Young Player of the Month: Sergej Milinkovic Savic

Serbian youngster Sergej Milinkovic Savic was in stellar form this month, fitting into the side with no issues, and posing a constant threat to opposition defences, while also pressing high to win the ball back early. Sergej, as fans have now labelled him, will quickly look like a bargain at £20m if he continues to play at this level

De Magere: Got to spend money to make money!

Syztum: at the end of August we were sitting 6th :(

Justice: We do indeed!

mgriffin2012: yeah its a big risk i think, but one which will pay off this year...defensively i think its partly having the right personnel, but also the right system

ScottT: yeah its always the little clubs that give me issues!
Sergej's proving to be a very reliable goal scorer from midfield!
As a liverpool fan irl its good to see you sticking one on Barca after the events of the last few weeks!
After a mixed start you really stepped up! Winning the big English clash against Chelsea and after that you defeated Europe's super starts FCB.
Amazing wins over Barcelona and Chelsea especially, progression in the cup is always benefitial. Shame about the blips against smaller teams again! :P

Monthly Overview

Coming off the back of an unbeaten September, October was much more of a mixed bag in terms of results. We continued to struggle against some poorer sides, and at times our defending was nothing short of woeful.
In more positive news, we're pushing forwards in Europe, and continue to progress in the League cup, despite struggling in the league, as we head into November in 8th position.
In spite of the club's league struggles, I've been pleased with the football we've been playing, and also the performances of a number of players. I'm hoping that moving forwards we can build a positive sequence of results, and climb back up the league table.

Player of the Month: Daniel Sturridge

Sturridge's attacking play this month was a catalyst for some incredible results. The Englishman scored 6 goals in 6 games, including a magnificent Hat-trick against Arsenal, to push the club forward with each game played. On current form, Sturridge looks to be at the start of an incredible season, and his prolific goalscoring thus far has seen bookies slash the odds on him finishing as the league's top scorer this season; he is by far the club's greatest attacking threat at this point.

Young Player of the Month: Jonathan Tah

New boy Jonathan Tah has experienced something of a breakthrough this month, forcing his way into the first team with some extraordinary defensive performances, which at times show a maturity far beyond his years. A natural defensive leader, Tah is capable of breaking up opposition attacks before they reach his goalmouth, and is strong in the air, making him invaluable in defending the set piece. His incredible defensive work this month also saw him presented with the Premier League's Young Player of the Month award for October!

Must have mixed feelings. Some results that you can be proud of and others to think about. But you're on the right way.
A fantastic month against the top sides as usual, unlucky against Juventus but it does seem like you're in a good position within the current Champions League group. West Ham have always been a tricky side to play, so I can forgive you for that result. :P
Its a shame about the West ham and Juve results but youre free scoring and relatively tight at the back so there is a real chance of silverware
Mixed month, but you must be delighted with defeating the three big London clubs! Arsenal Fan TV must have been entertaining :P
Mixed month, good against the top sides poor against the lesser ones (like irl :P ). 5-0 against Arsenal was argueably the best match. Unlucky on the loss against Juve but you'll bounce back. Hope you'll earn some silverware cause it seems like that's the case. ;)

Monthly Overview

November was a difficult month in the league, as we picked up just 3 of an available 9 points, which nevertheless allowed us to move into 5th position. I am slightly concerned by our league performance; we're capable of beating Chelsea and Arsenal on our day, but we're struggling against the smaller teams like Burnley.

Outside of the league, we continued to dominate our Champions League group, and progressed in the League Cup, moving into the semi-finals. It's encouraging to see us performing well in the cups, as I have a feeling they may soon become our best shot at European qualification for next season.

Player of the Month: Joel Matip

When he plays, Matip is arguably Liverpool's best defender. It would have been easy to give the plaudits this month to our attacking players, but it wouldn't have been fair to the man who marshalls a young defence with confidence and incredible vision. Particularly when paired with new signing Jonathan Tah, Matip is one half of a formidable defensive partnership, upon which Liverpool are able to build from the back to close out games and get results.

Young Player of the Month: Dele Alli

Some fans were growing frustrated with summer signging Dele Alli; a few had him pegged as a direct replacement for outgoing captain Jordan Henderson, but this has not been the case. Alli (along with fellow new signing Milinkovic Savic) prefers to attack defences and the space they leave; he is a playmaker, but he seems more comfortable in an attacking midfield role. Alli won the hearts of Liverpool fans with a sensational double against Everton in the League Cup, and his intelligent linkup play sees him take home this award.

Comments

De Magere:Yeah its a strange one, but given my track record its not exactly surprising: i'm hoping we can kick on and start putting together a run of form

ScottT: Would you expect anything else? Small sides are my achilles heel, i'm not sure if its a mentality thing

mgriffin2012: If i'm honest I never expected to beat Juve...the West Ham result stung though!

Justice: I've heard rumours....

Jim: Here's hoping! Some Silverware would be excellent ;)
Mixed month, but a big win against Juve! Surprised Sturridge hasn't slipped on a banana peel or something
A very mixed month as Justice said, hopefully we'll pick up the consistency soon! The similarities between your Liverpool side and the actual side are scary. :P
Another mixed month with brilliant victories followed by shameful defeats.
