Hi,

I have just started to play FM10. For the first time ever, I have decide to write a blog to keep you up to date of how’s its going and for you to help me out.

I started as unemployed with only Sunday league experience using England, Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Russia, Romania, Ukraine, Portugal, Holland, Turkey, Greece, Switzerland, Denmark and Scotland. With all leagues playable. This gives me a player database of 74,000.

I have decided to play as Welling in the Blue Square South League in England.

Welling History

Founded in 1963, Welling United are a semi-professional club. The club play their home games at Park View Road and possess fairly basic training facilities and a basic youth setup. The Welling reserve team play their games at Gay Dawn Farm. The club is affectionately known as The Wings. Although The Wings are enduring a twenty-three year barren spell, having not won a competition since 1986, the club still have a history of which they can be justly proud. Welling won the English 7th tier for the only time in 1986.

When I got the job with Welling I could not set up my objectives but in my head I think aiming for promotion in my first season would be brilliant and get my career
off to a good start.

My first job was to decide how to set up my team. Most English teams seem to set up 4-4-2 but I thought I would do this slightly different seeing as I’m an Arsenal fan, so I went 4-3-1-2 (even though FM calls it 4-4-2).

The next important job was how we will play the beautiful game. Would it be attacking or defending? I thought why not a bit of both. So I went for a simple back four, two full back with the support duty and the two centre backs defending. The midfield three I went with two wingers on the attack duty (yes just like Arsenal) but the single centre midfielder as a ball wining midfield with the defend duty, the attacking midfielder on a support roll so he can come back to turn it into a normal 4-4-2 when defending. The two central stickers have different rolls, one of them is a poacher and the other is a deep lying forward all with attack duty. The team tactics I will be using are below on the picture.

slightly adventurous tactics for the Blue Square South there man!. . . i can't imagine you'll have the most creative players in the world so you may want too slow the tempo down and reduce the amount of creative freedom
I have looked at the team I have taken and over and thought do I strength it or see how they do. I have decided to strengthen the team. As a player in real life I think you need good players throughout the team from goal to up front. As I have not got any budget to buy players I have had to look for free transfers & loans. When buying players I want youngish player’s to mould them into how I play.

The only problem I have now is my wage bill is taken me up to my limit and just been told I have to renew my contracts on players now. This has taken me £144 over my wage limit. I have put some players on the transfer list that I don’t want but no club seems to be interested in them. Has anyone got any other ideas how I can low my wage bill?

Watch this space Tom_BcFC in the next couple of days I will show you how’s it going as I’ve played until November now.
Now comes the pre seasons. Let’s see what this new team can do. I didn’t have time to change the organised fixtures, so I had to keep with the prearranged ones. We started the pre season with probably the hardest game of season. It didn’t start well going down 2 goals in the first 18 minutes. It changed in the second half when we went 2-2 with King & Greenhalgh. I thought we was going to go on and win but oh no we lost 6-2. Well least the season can’t get any worse or can it?

Next game was against Banbury this should be much easier. Unfortunately even this game wasn’t very good, we did get a (Greenhalgh) 1-0 win but it should have been more. It was a win but am i doing something wrong like tactics?

Rest of the pre season

York 2-1 Welling (Aiteouakrim)
Northampton 1-1 Welling (Rose)
Yate 0-2 Welling (Fazakerley and Finn)
MK Dons 1-0 Welling
Eastwood 2-1 Welling (Clarke)

Not the best start to the season but i think we learnt a lot about the team. Fingers crossed the season will get better.
The season now starts for real now. It looks a hard start for us, with seven games in one month. Fitness and the squad will be important at this early strange. To help us through this stage I decide to lighten the training to let them recover quicker.

(H) Woking 0-2
(A) Thurrok 0-3 (Aiteouakrim, Cusack & Lawson)
(A) Bath 2-4 (Clarke x2, Aiteouakrim & Greenhalgh)
(H) St. Albans 4-1 (Clarke, Aiteouakrim & Lawson x2)
(A) Staines 2-2 (Aiteouakrim & Clarke)
(H) Braintree 0-3
(A) Dover 1-0

Not the best start, 10 points out 21. The good thing is we scored alot of goals, so if we can tighten the back four we should be able to stop some of these goals going in.
Month two can it get better?

(H) Newport Co 2-1 (Clarke & Rose)
(A) Maidenhead 2-2 (Fazakerley & obersteller)
(A) Dorchester 1-1 (Clarke)
(H) Weston-super-Mare 3-2 (Rose, Franks & Aiteouakrim)

What a month in the league, 8 points out of 12. This is brilliant way to go into 2nd round of the FA Cup qualifier. This should be an easy game (if there is an easy game in the cup & local derby). We have got Wembley at home. Going into the half time break went to us with a goal from Fazakerley. In the second half was a different story but at first when we scored another goal in the 49th minute from Parkinson. When we thought this game was in the bag Wembley got one back on the 80th minute, this means the last 10 minutes will be interesting. Luckily we managed to do it, which will help the club bring in some important money and fans. Is this the first game of a nice cup run? In the 3rd round we pulled out Tunbridge Wells away.

As a manger i don’t think this month could have got much better for us with a five games unbeaten record (a club record).
Hope you keep this blog up.....very interesting! I always start in the lower leagues and it is tough going so good luck.
Month 3 looked to be very a imporant month with the league and the FA cup (maybe two if we get through the next round).

(H) Bishop Stortford 3-0 (Parkinson, Clarke & Rose)
(A) Turnbridge Wells 1-2 (Aiteouakrim & Cusack)
(A) Chelmsford 1-1 (Cusack)
(A) Havant & W 2-0
(H) Lewes 2-1 (Aiteouakrim x2)

This has helped us so much this win, with 10 points out of 15. What has taken us up to 3rd place. With games in hand as you can see below.

with a great month in the league how did the cup go. In the FA Cup 3rd Round Qual we have Tunbridge Wells away.

The first half just went to plan with a 0-2 win at half time with goals from Aiteouakrim & Cusack. The second half was Tunbridge half with a goal for them but luckly for us this was not enough. Another important win.

When the draw came round for the FA Cup 4th Round Qual we pulled out Whyteleafe.

Whyteleafe are in the a lower league than us, so this should be an easy game but we are playing away.

The first half went really well with Aiteouakrim scoring in 4mins and Fazakerley making it 0-2 in the 26th min. The second half wasnt very good. We could take advantage of the first half and it stayed 0-2. Why is the second half causing us so much problems? The good news we went through to the next round.

FA Cup 1st round here we come. This should help with money.
