Just 4 seasons ago Chesterfield reached the League 1 playoffs after just getting promotion the season before.
Since then, the club has been on a downward spiral and find themselves in the National League for the first time in their history. With a new stadium, funds are never high. The new squad has an average age of 26. The youngest as standard 18 and the eldest... 38. There is a real range of players available.
It won't be easy to bounce straight back. This is my aim. With battles against the giants such as Salford and Leyton Orient. It won’t be easy. With a media prediction of 3rd but also only 1 automatic promotion spot.
KEY PLAYERS:
Laurence Maguire - DC
Younger brother to Leicester Cit player, Harry. A young up and coming defender who came through the ranks. 21 year old with a 4 star potential. Definitely one i will playing and looking to improve where possible.
Joe Rowley - MC
Again another young prospect to come through the ranks. This time a 19 year old creative midfielder. as standard suited to central midfielder but i will be using as my advanced playmaker. currently a 4 and half star player, should be at a higher level definitely 1 to keep happy and try to tie down to a longer deal.
Charlie Wakefield - MR
A 3rd young player to come through the Academy, an 18 year old winger. Not very fast or strong however, his technical ability makes him a good option to retrain as central playmaker. only has 1 year left on his deal will need a new one soon as he has a very high potential also.
Lee Shaw - ST
A new signing this season. 24 year old work horse. simple as that, work rate of 15 and determination of 14 makes him the ideal pressing forward. Works best when partnered with a strong Target man to play off.
It's clear that the academy produces good quality players, i like to use youth where possible especially cup games. So i will be looking to develop existing talent and find new young prospects.
STAFF:
As i have replaced Martin Allen, who has very few staff. That will be early on my agenda, a fitness coach, scouts and a larger medical team. The games come thick and fast in this league, will need all the help i can get.
TRANSFERS:
As the budget is very low, but i already have enough players i believe to compete, i won't be adding to the existing squad straight away. After all, the transfer window never shuts in non league.
