Jack - To be fair, the financial state of the club isn't good enough yet to go sem-pro.

ScottT - Baby steps for the club is the name of the game; still one of the favorites for the drop. We'll take the coaching course for now though! The young guns are certainly holding their own in the league so far ;)

TheLFCFan - Nothing worse than having a decent player taken from you, and you can't do anything about it.
2019 Mid-Season Update:

After an impressive, yet surprising first half of the campaign; Gällivare Malmbergets FF currently find themselves occupying second place in this years Swedish Second Division Norrland league table. However, as the table suggests, there is little to get excited about yet, as one lose could see them slip to 10th depending on how other results go. Newly promoted side Kiruna FF find themselves struggling to cope with their new surroundings, and are currently in last place. More surprisingly though; Skellefteå FF who were relegated from the Swedish First Division last season are finding their new league equally as hard, and find themselves in 13th position. Last seasons runners up Hudiksvalls FF have recovered from a terrible start to the campaign, which consisted of a run of 6 games without a win, and are now 3rd. There's still plenty of drama ahead in the remainder of the campaign. Will Gällivare's season be disrupted be the clubs upcoming elections; if a new chairman comes into the club, will they share Björn's vision for the club? If not, will they keep Björn in charge of the club? Only time will tell...

Election Day

The day had finally come; the time to elect the new chairman at Gällivare Malmbergets FF. Current chairman Gerd Siverhall was the overriding favourite to land the clubs leading job. Gustav Lindequist and William Tengfjord were the chosen opposition. If either of them won, then it could completely change the dynamic of the club. After all Björn and Gerd had history before he took over the first team job and were therefore familiar with how one another worked. There was a mutual respect between the two of them. Plus Gerd had bent the rules in order to keep Björn in charge of the club. If Gustav and William came in, then they would soon be made aware of what was going on behind the scenes. It would just be easier for them to fire Björn and hire the manager that was previously chosen, instead of having to negotiate around a breach of contract and potential law suit. The number of fans attending the clubs home games had increased, but there was still expected fewer than 200 votes expected to be cast. However, each and every vote was of significant importance in going towards shaping the future of the club. Joachim Karlsson, the head of the GMFF fan club was chosen to read out the results with the three candidates on stage..

Joachim Karlsson - President of the GMFF Fan Club "First of all, thank you to all of you that took part and cast your vote for the clubs next chairman. We have three outstanding candidates here tonight, and I'm sure that which ever one of them wins here tonight, they will lead our club with integrity, and always with the clubs best interest at heart. So without further ado; in third place, with 37 votes, we have William Tengfjord.."

(Background Applause)

"... In second, with 45 votes to their name.. is Gustav Lindequist, meaning that Gerd Siverhall remains club chairman with 62 votes!!"

(Rapturous Applause)

Gerd Siverhall - Club Chairman "Thank you, each and everyone of you that chose me to remain in charge at this club for another three years. I love being at this club, and I think that we are really starting to go places. Those of you who voted for my esteemed competitors, well I hope that the work I put in over the next few years will somewhat convince you that the right choice was made. Our team is currently defying the odds this season, we find ourselves just the three points off top spot, so please; continue to come down and support our team. Try to bring more of your friends, family, coworkers. Tell them all what we are achieving so far this season. Having you in the stands can help give the team that extra 10% when they need it most. In terms of investment, we all know that the transfer window is now open. Discussion between myself, first team manager Björn Johansson, and director of football Krister Taivalsaari are ongoing. We're looking at areas of the squad that we can improve, as well as discussing those that we could move on. In terms of financial investment, I know there has been rumours of the club moving into a semi-professional capacity, however these are just rumours for now. There is no plan currently in place to do so. However; like always, we shall be reviewing this at the end of the current season. Finally; I would like to welcome Lars Rönnholm to the club. Lars shall be helping me to run the club, and is coming into the club as the first senior director that we have in place. Once again, thank you for your votes, I hope that you enjoy the rest of your evening. I shall see you at the teams next home match against Kramfors-Alliansen".
Wow, an incredible start to the season and Bjorn is certainly turning the club around. Good to see that Gerd remains as the chairman as stability quite usually works best.
Just caught up with this after coming back from holiday and what a turnaround! With a group of youngsters you have managed them masterfully from a relegation certainty to battling for promotion at the top! Siverhall staying is nice to see the continuation of the club and its stability but I have my reservations regarding his decisions not to go semi-professional!
TheLFCFan - Brilliant campaign so far; the run of four draws in a row was annoying though. Anything can happen yet though given how close the league table is!

Jack - Nice to have you back mate! The youngsters are certainly proving that they can make it at this level. It is a bit frustrating not going semi-pro yet, hopefully he'll have seen sense come the end of the season!
Clubs Circling Around Gällivare's Johansson!

Two Swedish Second Division Norrland teams; IFK Luleå and Anundsjö IF are apparently in talks Gällivare Malmbergets FF manager Björn Johansson. Recently re-elected club chairman Gerd Siverhall will be desperate to keep hold of a manager that has so drastically turned around the clubs fortunes in such a short period of time. When current manager Björn Johansson took charge, he fund his side languishing bottom of their league facing an improbable challenge ahead to survive the drop. Fast-forward just over a year later, and Gällivare currently find themselves chasing promotion, three points off of top spot with nine games to go. Granted, the league standings are very tight with very little between teams in 9th position to the team topping the league. Its not only the league standings that are impressive for last years struggles; numbers are starting to increase at match days now. Following their last game, 186 fans attended their home win against Kramfors-Alliansen. Compare that to Björn's first game in charge, a 5-3 win against Täfteå IK, there was just 119 fans in attendance. Now these aren't the huge attendances that a Manchester City or an Arsenal get every game, but when you're an amateur side languishing in the lower reaches of Scandinavian football, this increase in numbers isn't half bad. Also; if you look at the average of the squad that currently make up the first team at Gällivare, only two players are over the age of 18. This isn't just a team punching above their weight this season, this is a team with huge potential, and in order for them to fulfil that potential, it is essential that they keep Björn Johansson in charge of their first team. Needless to say, the upcoming fixture is guaranteed to be a fiery encounter, with Gällivare playing host to one of the teams rumoured to be in talks with their manager.

As Björn was heading home after his meeting with Karl Andersson, the club chairman of Anundsjö IF; his second meeting with interested parties within a matter of days of each other in fact; the music playing in his car had cutoff, and he new instantly the reasoning for it. Gerd Siverhall was trying to call him, not doubt to speak to him about the supposed rumours..

G.Siverhall "What the hell do you think you're doing Björn!? You had no right to go behind my back and speak to them clubs without our permission!"

B.Johansson "And a hello, how are you to you as well Gerd. I'm not really contracted to this club though am I? You know, what with what happened at the end of last season. Plus, I'm on a month to month contract just like the players. If a club comes in for any of them, we're powerless to resist because, well you know the reason don't you... we're an amateur club".

G.Siverhall "Don't push it Björn. You're not in to great of a position for us to let you go you know. Its in the news, these two teams that you've spoken to. The fans would understand it if I got rid of you for going behind the clubs back".

B.Johansson "You're right, I should have spoken to you first about it. There's nothing for you to worry about though, I just wanted to see your reaction. The position that they both find themselves in is a precarious one, and I don't want to have to go and work another survival miracle. At least not with any other team. I'm happy here Gerd, I just went to see what the enemy had to say and what they were offering".

G.Siverhall "This isn't funny Björn! I could have you fired for this!"

B.Johansson "Don't be foolish now Gerd. Look; I didn't think it was that big a deal and that's why I didn't call you first. I was never going to take either job".

G.Siverhall "You f!&#ing idiot! Next time speak to me first! But there best not be a next time!"

B.Johansson "Relax Gerd, like I said, I'm happy here okay. We're building towards something special. I'm here for the long-run I give you my word".

G.Siverhall "Idiot. Okay, but don't try and pull anything like this again or there will be consequences you mark my words".

Bjorn new the value that he brought, and that's why he went to speak to both clubs. The fact that Gerd reacted like this also reaffirmed his importance to Gällivare. The club simply needs him more than he needs them at present. This stance may aid him in the future when asking the board for improvements and funding for the squad. He was never going to actually take either job on offer, he just wanted Gerd to sweat a little and hand him the power. Bjorn will be staying put at Gällivare.. for now at least..
It's astonishing to see the contrast in fortunes between now and when Bjorn first arrived and had to rescue the club from the very brink of relegation. Promising times lie ahead for the football club, it seems. The re-election of Gerd could prove to be vastly important for the football club too, given the repercussions it could have had on Bjorn should a different candidate had won and found out the managerial situation.
ScottT - A huge turn around in such a short space of time as well. Gerd staying at the club was huge for keeping the club running smoothly
The proof that Bjorn is key to the club is evident with Gerds reaction and rightly so. This will certainly play into Bjorns hands when he nexts wants something from the board!
Bjorn's attitude is one that displays a sense of coolness and he jokes and toys with Gerd, knowing that the club couldn't afford to lose his expertise in the dug-out after such a strong start to the campaign. I suspect this could be used as a bargaining tool in some respect later down the line.
Bjorn's attitude is quite comical the way he approaches Gerd, for sure. However, it's that kind of attitude that could see manager's fired!
TheLFCFan - We all the know the one thing that he wants; but will they give it to him?

ScottT - Without him in charge they'd already be relegated. He knows his value and so do they, which should surely work in his favour.

Jack - It has a touch of Brian Clough during his time at Derby about it doesn't it ;)
It isn't his fault that he was Björn this way.
2019 Season Update:

As the 2019 Swedish Second Division Norrland reaches its climax, as many of 5 teams can still top the table, and 4 teams can still be relegated with nothing confirmed as of yet. This has been the tightest of seasons with very little between the 14 teams throughout the season. Gällivare Malmbergets FF have remained the surprise package throughout the campaign, with many tipping them for relegation at the start of the season. However, with one game left, they currently occupy top sport, with a slightly better goal difference than second placed IFK Luleå. This final day is going to be one of the most dramatic days of football in Swedish history, with so much left to be decided on the last day. Who will be celebrating come the end of play; who will be ruing their luck as a huge opportunity goes begging, and who will be be preparing themselves for life in a different division. It still remains anyone's guess..

5th placed IFK Östersund vs Gällivare Malmbergets FF 1st Placed

As Björn looked around the changing room before lead his side out for the last time this season, he couldn't help but feel real pride in what he and his team of amateurs had achieved this season. Many had written them off, yet here there are, top on the last day of their season. Their fate in their own hands..

Björn Johansson - Gällivare Manager "Alright gents, this is it. I don't care what happens in any other game today except ours. Go out there and give every last ounce that you can possibly give. You do that, and you'll end up as champions by the end of today. The starting lineup for today; in goal we have Jonathan Sköld; right back is Sam Axelsson, the two centre halves for today are Linus Mattsson and Peter Johansson, and at left back, we go with Adam Wallgren. The midfield three is De Luca, Chahrour and Tommy Jonsson. De Luca you'll be the anchor of the three. Right wing is Joel Brolin, and left is Jakob Larsson; leaving Felix as the lone striker. Good luck today lads, I know you've got what it takes to get us over the line today."

0 "The referee blows to get the game underway".

9 "Fredriksson has it just inside his own half and looks to play one in behind Axelsson. Ageskär runs onto the looped ball and gathers it under his control. He drives into the 18 yard box and gets his shot off; its easy for the goalkeeper to save and keep hold of".

11 "Fredriksson collects a pass from Björkén just outisde of the semi-circle. He carries the ball and looks for Ageskär's run again in behind the Gällivare defence. Ageskär manages to get his shot off, but this time it gets tipped behind by Sköld at his near post".

18 "Gällivare have a corner on the right hand side of the pitch. De Luca steps up to take in. His delivery goes over everyones head and falls at the feet of Felix Söderström who gets his shot off, but its blocked by the defender, but it falls kindly at his feet for him to fire into the unguarded net!! 1-0 to Gällivare!!"

23 "Gällivare have a freekick wide left about 40 yards out from goal. Mac Chahrour is standing over it. He whips it in and its missed by the defender and rolls into De Luca's path; 2-0!!! It was on a plate for De Luca to fire home!! Everything is going the way of Gällivare Malmbergets FF so far today!"

38 "Östersund have a freekick 25 yards out. Björkén is standing over it. He looks to curl one to the top left corner, but again its easy for Sköld to collect. A difficult angle to put it in either corner in all honesty".

Half Time "Gällivare go into half time 2-0 up, and looking at the other scores from today, its looking as though its going to be their name going on to the league title at the end of today! IFK Luleå are currently drawing 0-0, Bodens BK are also drawing 0-0 in their game. Hudiksvalls are also 0-0! It will take a huge collapse from Gällivare in order for one of the other teams to take home the league title today".

45 "The referee blows his whistle to start the second half of today's game".

63 "Östersund have a throw in by the Gällivare corner flag. Andersson takes the throw in and gives it to Klelin who immediately plays it back to Andersson, who then plays a 5 yard pass into Björkén. Björkén feeds it into Fredriksson who chips it back out wide to Andersson. Andersson whips a cross in and Perman gets up and above the two centre halves, only to head just wide of the post. Big chance for Östersund to get back into the game then".

75 "Gällivare have a freekick to the left hand side of Östersund's 18 yard box. Chahrour is standing over it. He puts it into the 6 yard box where Joel Brolin is free to fire past the Östersund goalkeeper!! Gällivare are coasting to victory now!!"

77 "Östersund have a goal kick. The plays it out to the right back, who plays it into the middle where Björkén is free. He gets his head up and looks to play it over the Gällivare defence for Klelin can run onto. He collects by the byline and pulls it back for Ageskär to run into and fire past the goalkeeper first time!! A lifeline for Östersund but surely to late now!"

90 "Gällivare are just moments away from securing this years Swedish Second Division Norrland league title. Still time for one last attack though; Chahrour plays it forward but its headed clear. The ball drops to the feet of Brolin, who shifts it out of his feet and curls it home from the edge of the area!! 4-1Gällivare!! No-one, not even the most loyal of their fans could have predicted the way their season has gone! They just managed to survive the drop last season, this season they were one of the favourites to go down again. Yet somehow, they have managed to defy the odds to become this years champions!! Congratulations Gällivare, congratulations Björn Johansson, you have managed to mastermind one of Swedish football's greatest fairy-tales!!"

9+4 "That's it, the referee has blown his whistle for the last time; Gällivare have done it!! They are this years Swedish Second Division Norrland league champions!"
