So, I put to you this: Who actually won the Champions League? Inter Milan or Jose Mourinho?
In the interest of debate I am curious to know what people think. Jose Mourinho is probably considered the greatest tactician in football at present (I believe the win against Barca provides massive weight to this claim). Inter have always been a strong team, but pretty poor in european competitions in recent times.
Mourinho
Everyone knows about him and his massive ego. It has to be agreed though he is a fantastic manager and to say he knows what hes doing when it comes to running a team is a slight understatement. Any team would kill to have him as theirs. His knowledge of the players at his disposal and how to utilise them properly have been key to Inters win this season. As mentioned, I think the first leg against Barca demonstrates this very clearly. He worked out how to shut out Messi's influence, counter attacked to great effect and forced Barca to chase the lead in the second leg by 'parking the plane' (Mourinho's own words.)
Inter Milan
Ok so we all play FM so we may be a bit biased, but its not Mourinho on the pitch now is it? His tactics are influential, but the quality of the players in the squad are obvious. New additions Milito and Sneijder have been incredible in their first season both domestically and on the european stage. Players already at the club though have once again proven their credentials (Julio Cesar?) and some have enjoyed a resurgence under Mourinho (Cambiasso and Zanetti?). They carry out instructions as a team, but their individual skill and flair has shone through when required and contribute to a team that has knocked out the league champions of Spain, England AND Germany!
So what do people think? Who really deserves to take home the trophy tonight?
