Starting the match in a back and forth battle it was an effective counter attack that saw 1860 Munich open the scoring when Efkan Bekiroglu played Musa Barrow through on goal with the Gambian international converting the chance in the 14th minute. Both sides continued to produce chances in an even display up until the break.

Hertha Berlin striker Daishawn Redan scored early in the second half to draw level with a placed shot past 1860 Munich goalkeeper Marcin Bulka to get his side back into the match. The goal from Redan would be in vain when a scramble in front of goal from a corner saw 1860 Munich substitute Fabian Greilinger score in the 82nd minute. After conceding, Hertha Berlin became desperate and aggressive, picking up multiple yellow cards but they were unsuccessful as 1860 Munich came out victorious.

After the victory, 1860 Munich drew FC Koln in the quarter-final stage of the DFB-Pokal with the match to take place on the 1st of March 2022. The other quarter-final match ups will see SV Werder Bremen take on RB Leipzig, Mainz 05 face TSG Hoffenheim and Borussia Monchengladbach play Eintracht Frankfurt.

Just caught up on the past eleven pages off this and been really impressed with the progression made. The calibre of teams the the Bundesliga.2 made that automatic promotion an even greater achievement. Starting with a solid 2-1 victory to progress in the DFB-Pokal, 1860 Munich was soundly beaten by VfL Wolfsburg before a dominant victory over SC Freiburg featuring a hattrick from winger Lisandru Tramoni. Die Löwen then lost 3-2 against Borussia Monchengladbach in a match which saw all goals scored in the first half.

1860 Munich finished the month with a 0-0 draw against FC Koln who they will face again in their first fixture of March in the DFB-Pokal semi-final.


RB Leipzig hold a three-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga table with the gap between the teams training them starting to widen. Mainz 05, Union Berlin and Hannover 96 find themselves threatened with relegation with ten matches remaining in the season.


Producing four assists in five games, Phillipp Steinhart continues to impress in his first season in the Bundesliga. The 29-year-old fan favourite has made 151 appearances for 1860 Munich, playing in four different divisions of German football.

Continuing to keep Felix Muller out of the starting side, Steinhart is well suited to the style of play implemented by Daniel Bierofka and has performed above expectations for the past two seasons.

A physical battle took place at Grunwalder Stadion as 1860 Munich took on FC Koln in the quarter final of the DFB-Pokal. Both Felix Weber and Philipp Steinhart from 1860 Munich received early yellow cards for poor tackles early in the match, soon to be followed by Jonas Hector from FC Koln. Both sides had efforts on goal but were unable to convert their opportunities as the first half ended.

Early in the second half, Rodrygo made an incredible run from the halfway line, passing four defenders and hitting a shot from outside the box past 1860 Munich goalkeeper Marcin Bulka to break the deadlock. In need of a goal, 1860 Munich took the initiative and began to assert dominance against the FC Koln defence.

Musa Barrow has the best chance of the match for 1860 Munich in the 55th minute, missing a one on one opportunity after a through ball from Efkan Bekiroglu, seeing him eventually substituted for Osei Owusu. FC Koln would manage to hold their lead to secure the one goal victory.

FC Koln will now go onto face TSG Hoffenheim in the semi-final of the DFB-Pokal while RB Leipzig will take on Eintracht Frankfurt in the other match. 1860 Munich will now turn their attention to the Bundesliga as they continue to fight against relegation, facing Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park in their next fixture.
