An incredible way of writing a gut-wrenching situation, really great piece in describing feelings, actions and emotions. I'm now left wondering: Who is Jacob?
Another fantastic piece of writing as we have come to expect from you. Gripping from the first word to the last. Just want to mention how impressed I am with the improvement you've made in such a short amount of time. This story has been brilliant.
Been a while since Jacob appeared in the story, but I'm super interested to find out what has happened since that fateful night. There's still so many gaps to be filled in!
He's alive??? Holy...
Power

5th July 2022
The saying goes “Money equals power, power makes law and law makes government.” That couldn’t be anymore true.
Forty years ago I was forcibly removed from my home. I couldn’t do or say anything to stop it. Neither could my parents for that matter. We took verbal and in my case physical abuse before I was pulled away from my family.
We had virtually no money. The income my family made would provide us with just enough food and shelter but nothing more. It wasn’t as though we could make any more either, we were one of the lucky ones. The system that was designed to hold us back, ran by the rich and powerful to ensure we would never thrive. It stopped us from ever being more than living life not certain if we would be eating that night. Yet that wasn’t enough. No. They needed to take our home and everything we had with it.
At thirteen I was made to be wanting to be hit by a car to put me out of my misery after the beating I took. Yet the car stopped. The driver saved my life. The driver also happened to be the best thing to happen in my life.
The man who stopped, Xavier, simply known as X, happened to be the leader of the largest gang in Johannesburg, the Snowdevils.
Violence and fear came second to money in bringing power. Something the Snowdevils excelled in. Effectively controlling the area of Eldorado Park with their command over the area, the gang had power across the city. That power only increased with the Cities first shipment of cocaine entering the Snowdevils hands in 1997.
The gang's fascination had begun with cocaine after reading about Columbian drug lord Pablo Escobar. Like us, Escobar had come from an extremely poor family. Having gotten into crime as a teenager, Escobar’s fortunes turned once he got into the drug trade, becoming the wealthiest man in crime. Escobars story was enough for Xavier, desperate to get out of his own situation, to begin to pave his own way in the criminal world. Escobar’s story also influenced the naming of the group, with Snowdevils an early precursor to Xavier’s intentions.
Having pleaded for my life, Xavier saved me. His journey from Cape Town to Johannesburg was a long one, with stops with people he knew during the day the only thing stopping us from being caught. The laws of the country prohibited us from such travel, but taking the right roads and only travelling at night ensured we entered Johannesburg safely.
From there, X gave me shelter, food, water, whatever I needed. He mentored me in the ‘game’ guiding me and teaching me everything I know today. I worked hard, I owed my life to the man.
Early on I would be used to collect ‘tax’ from residents. I would go around and ensure all money was paid and at the correct value. If someone didn’t pay up, I would jot down the address and inform X. Those residents were then dealt with and never gave us any more problems.
On my eighteenth birthday my role changed, moving into a higher ranking and controlling the youngsters who were now doing the same “tax collection” I had been doing. Again, it was simple stuff. The kids had respect, they knew their place and knew we were providing for them.
X continued to mentor me, bringing me further and further into the game before I eventually became his right hand man. I was there when we received the first shipment of cocaine. I was there when we raked in our first million. We had the right members of government and police in our pockets and we still do to this day. As I said, ““Money equals power, power makes law and law makes government.” Life had changed, I had gone from having nothing to having the world with X guiding us to further wealth.
That was until the only time I wasn’t when X was murdered.
Having been shot in a drive by, by a rival gang, I became the leader of the Snowdevils. More affectionately known as, Umholi.
So with this update I have officially hit update number 100 for the first time since I began writing last year. We also recently hit 500 replies and 20,000 views which I set out as my big targets at the start of the year. To know I have hit them is very pleasing.
I'd like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has taken their time to read this story. Whether it has been a single update, a skim through the whole story or reading every update word for word. I appreciate it. I also would like to thank those who have left their constant support in the forms of comments, again much appreciated.
I hope you continue to enjoy Luke's story as he makes his way in the Premier League and whatever is to come in his personal life.
Thanks again!

Jack: Thank you for the kind words. I hope this has cleared up just who Jacob is!
Scott:Thank you mate! Means alot to hear that and I hope to continue to impress and improve as we continue!
James:Well maybe this one has helped fill in a few of those gaps!
MidKnightDreary: He is

The architecture of this story has been phenomenal throughout after just going back to read some of the earlier pieces. So many questions remain unanswered though, such as Jacob/Umholi's obsession with Luke. Is it because, like him they both came out of similar upbringings yet Luke is now a global face? I'm concerned with Xavier, particularly the events around his death leave me wondering if Luke and X have a direct relation to each other. Superb work.
I can't really find the words to give this update the justice it deserves! A pretty remarkable change of fate, eh.
Beginning competitive action at any new club is enough to make any man nervous. Let alone opening the brand new season away from home against a rival who are expected to compete for the title. That is what Luke Hendricks had to face as he kicked off his Liverpool career.
This is Luke’s Liverpool.
Luke Hendricks was confirmed as Liverpool's new manager on July 5th 2022. Just seventeen days later, his side were due to play long time rivals, Arsenal Football Club in the opening game of the new Premier League season. In that period, changes had been seen throughout the club. Nineteen new staff members had joined the club, with three players also joining Lukes squad.
Director of Football, Michael Edwards has played a major role in the acquisitions across the football club since his move into the role in 2016.
“I joined the club as a data analyst in 2011 and in all honesty I haven’t looked back since. I made my move into the Director of Football role in 2016 with Jurgen. Since then we have done everything we can to bring in the best to this club.”
“I think of the signings we have made, the likes of Mo Salah, Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk and Paulo Dybala. These are just some of the players we have bought in, that helped us to win the league a couple seasons back. It is something I am incredibly pleased with.”
“This season we added three very talented youngsters in the summer window. It was a window of fast pace with Luke only joining sixteen days before the window closed, with everything being earlier this season with the 2022 World Cup being played in December. Alphonso Davies, Armel Bella-Kotchap and Leonidas are all brilliant signings and players we feel could make a massive difference in the long run.” commented Michael Edwards.
Edwards and Luke Hendricks had been working together throughout the pre-season games that Liverpool had left. The pair had come to the conclusion early that the likelihood of signing anyone before deadline day was slim with an agreement that the right player was more important than when they joined.
That meant Luke was allowed to evaluate his squad with the two pre-season friendlies against Aaru and Dijon before his first competitive game with a meeting between himself and Dirk Kuyt taking place following the return from France.
“What are your thoughts, Dirk?” asked Luke.
“We look good boss. The lads seem to be thriving in the tactic, that seven goal win against Aaru was certainly a great start.” replied Kuyt “Let’s also remember it was seven different scorers, that’s certainly a good sign we won’t be relying on anyone in particular throughout the season for the goals. I do think Paulo is the clear creative threat though. He got himself two assists and a goal and it is going to be key keeping him.”
“Agreed, he showed again against Dijon that he will be the main man. A four nothing win is good but I am worried about Trent’s injury. I just heard back from Lee and he said it’s likely going to be three weeks. That is going to be massive ahead of the Arsenal game.” said a concerned Luke.
“It is, but I believe that Max Aarons will be fine. He has looked sharp in training. What’s the latest on the signings?” questioned Kuyt.
“Alphonso Davies looks wrapped up, I think it’s all but confirmed now. Armel and Leonidas aren't so set in stone but we think we can get them over the line before the deadline. Alphonso is likely going to need to start against Arsenal as well with Memphis pulling up in training today. He’s out for three weeks as well so Davies will need to hit the ground running for sure.” commented Luke.
With a busy sixteen days between signing his contract and the end of the transfer window, and all three of Luke’s targets secured on deadline day, Luke could finally turn his full attention to the opening day of the season. A clash against Unai Emery’s Arsenal.
“I want us to take the game to them, let's go attacking. I don’t think they will expect it and they will be planning for us to use the defensive midfielder. Take the game to them early on. Get stuck in and let them know we aren’t settling for anything but the best this season. This is your chance to make a statement early on. We’ve spoken about how last year wasn’t to our standards, now let’s go and prove that.” Luke said to his squad before kick off.
The away crowd were nerves personified ahead of the kick off. It was to be expected. Liverpool were about to kick off a game of football without Jurgen Klopp in charge for the first time in almost seven years.
“It’s going to be strange.” Matt Clarke, a long time season ticket holder at Anfield, said before the game “Not having Jurgen in the dugout is a massive change for us but we have faith in Luke. The friendlies were good and I am excited about the future, but nobody can blame us for being slightly nervous ahead of this one.”
Those nerves were quickly calmed.
Virgil van Dijk, Goal (11)
Alphonso Davies, Goal (16)
Paulo Dyabla, Goal (23)
“I knew he was good, but fuck me Paulo is having quite the game aint he lads.” Luke said to his coaching staff “Two assists and a goal, glad we kept a hold of him now” he said with a wink.
iAlphonso Davies, Goal (40).
Halftime - Arsenal 0 - 4 Liverpool
“Incredible lads.” Luke shouted slapping Virgil van Dijk on the back as he entered the changing room “This is exactly what I wanted boys. Now we keep it up. Go out and keep this going, show no mercy. Excellent.” called out Luke.
Full Time - Arsenal 1 - 5 Liverpool
“I think we can be pleased with that one for sure. It was a great performance and we were clinical in front of goal. They had chances, in fact I think they had more than us, but Alisson showed why he is the best goalkeeper in the world. Everyone impressed me and I can’t pretend I’m not over the moon with this start. The idea now is to continue this.”
“Mo’s injury is a shame, the medics think around four weeks but we will work with him and hope to see him back to his best in the next few weeks.” said Luke in his post match press conference.
Despite an injury to Mohamed Salah, a Paulo Dybala goal and three assists led Liverpool to the victory in Luke’s debut. Luke’s aim to be the best, has got off to the perfect start.
Jack:I guess you will have to continue reading to see if these questions are ever answered!
Thank you for the kind words.
Scott:I think that is fair to say. Jacob's life has certainly turned around!

Flying start and exactly the sort of result Luke would have wanted to get his tenure started. Arsenal were made to look like... Arsenal.

The Snowdevils sound like a boy band that are the South African version of One Direction
Despite it leading Jacob to go into a life of crime, it's fortunate that someone took the compassion to save his life that fateful night. Although one could also argue that X exploited his vulnerability to create himself a foot soldier that in the worst case scenario... could be cut loose without any hesitation. It'll be interesting to find out his side of the story: that's for sure.
What a win! Alphonso has hit the ground running, and that in itself should confirm that Memphis is to never play for Liverpool again
Paulo is amazing too, and you're lucky to have kept him after the season they'd had before your arrival.

Rocking start with a massive win! Great new signings and your team is more than ready to attack the title!
Following Liverpool's opening day victory over Arsenal, Luke Hendricks’ team looked to take advantage of the early form. However, early injury issues may well hold back the South African’s momentum. Whilst Liverpool are also due to find out who their Europa League group stage opponents will be.
This is Luke’s Liverpool.

After an opening day victory over Arsenal, winning 5-1 away from home, Luke Hendricks’ side received a lot of praise. But heading into their second game, Liverpool had a total of seven first team players unavailable due to injury.
“The issue with having so little time between the end of one season and the start of a new one is the fact that it gives us a lot less time for players to recover from the previous season and then be prepared for the new one. The boy’s played their final game of last season on May 28th 2022, exactly a month later they played the first game in their pre-season campaign.”
“It gives them barely any time to recover from a long and arduous season and that means injury issues are more likely to occur. We as a team, backed by the information our Sports Scientists give us, we do our best to ensure these issues are limited. However, that can’t always be the case, with certain niggles always to be expected.”
“It is a shame to lose such key players early on in the season, but it is something we need to deal with. Again we will continue to work towards ensuring these issues are limited but it isn’t something that can ever be eradicated from the game.” Luke said on the early season injury issues.
Despite missing seven key players, including captain Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, Andrew Robertson and Erling Haaland, Liverpool prevailed in their match against Leicester. A two goal victory, with goals coming from Alphonso Davies and Joe Gomez.
With a compact early schedule down to the 2022 Qatar World Cup taking place in November and December, Liverpool's run continued.
Norwich 1 - 1 Liverpool
“A side wrecked with injuries, a Paulo Dybala penalty saved our blushes against Norwich who have started strongly this season. It isn’t a good result and the boy’s know we have to be better and work harder.” commented Luke Hendricks
Bournemouth 0 - 2 Liverpool
“Alphonso Davies continued to impress since he arrived, adding another goal today, whilst it was great to see Harry WIlson score himself. To cap off a great day, seeing Leonidas make his first start, with Armel Bella-Kotchap coming off the bench was brilliant” said Luke.
Liverpool 4 - 1 Tottenham Hotspur
“Kicking off the season playing two of the top five from last season in our opening five games was a tough one. But we were incredible once again. Mo got us off to a great start and despite them equalising, Alphonso added his fifth and sixth goals of the season, before Erling Haaland completed the scoring.” an excited Hendricks said following the game.
Thirteen points from a possible fifteen see’s Liverpool two points off top of the table Manchester United early on into the season. A routine 4-0 victory over Wigan, despite a rotated squad, in the Carabao Cup 3rd round followed with Liverpool unbeaten in their competitive action under Luke Hendricks.
“It’s been a good start for sure ” Luke said to Peter Moore and Michael Gordon who were sat together waiting for the UEFA Europa League group stage draw “four wins from five and a single draw is a good place to be in and I feel like the team is getting closer to where we need them.”
“We are happy with what is going on so far, Luke, despite that Norwich result we understand those types of games will happen.” replied Peter Moore.
“It was also pleasing to see a number of the academy players given a chance against Wigan. In particular it was great to see Ryan Fraser given a go, he seemed to repay it with that goal” added Michael Gordon
“Yes, it was great to see Ryan score, he was given a chance and he took it so we are very pleased with him. He’s on the right track and that goal actually makes him the youngest scorer in the club's history. If he continues to work hard we could have a very good player on our hands.” Luke said just as the announcer took the stage.
“Ladies and Gentlemen please get ready for the UEFA Europa League 2022/23 Group Stage draw.”
“...That leaves in Group H, Liverpool to see out the first pot of the draw.”
“So Celtic then.” Luke said as he ticked off the final name on his list of pot two clubs.
“...Joining Liverpool and Celtic, Russian side Krasnodar in Group H.” called the lead announcer.
“...Finally, in Group H, joining Liverpool, Celtic and Krasnodar is Polish side Lech Poznań. With that the 2022/23 UEFA Europa League Group Stage draw is complete” came the final announcement.
Liverpool’s European group announced, seeing some fascinating contests including a trip back to Russia for Luke. Before that is able to begin, a Merseyside derby.

Scott:They were indeed. Surprisngly they have been good after the first two games (losing to us and United) but considering in the last three seasons they have spent over 400mil you'd probably expect it. Either way a great start for Luke.
James:It could certainly be seen from that point of view, but I imagine in Jacobs view he was on the verge of death, he doesn't care what happened apart from being saved. Alphonso has certainly been great, scoring six in five so far. And Paulo, well he's just exceptional.
OneMoreGame:I certainly hope so, the league has to be our aim and we have got off to the best start for it.

Peter and Michael are far too forgiving, #LukeOUT after the Norwich result tbh. In all seriousness: a good enough start to the season. You've been given an extremely easy Champions League group, and I won't be surprised to see you win 6 of 6 in it. Also, your FM is broken.... No way that United are 6 from 6...

A strong start and a decent group in the Europa League. I think no matter who Liverpool were paired with though, they would prove to be too powerful especially at this stage of the competition.
