After a 7th place finish in the Bundesliga last season Eintracht Frankfurt secured Europa League football for another year. The club reached the semi finals in the last campaign heartbreakingly losing to Chelsea and just missing out on a place in their first European final since 1980.
The feeling around the club was special, the team was the best it had been in years, they was real belief that the club could push on and represent Germany in Europe at the highest level...

Summer 2019

Luka Jovic Signs for Real Madrid.

Sebastian Haller Signs for West Ham United.

Ante Rebic Signs For Milan on 2-Year Loan With Option to Buy.

Breaking News

Eintracht Frankfurt manager Adi Hütter steps down after disagreements regarding the direction of the club. He was quoted saying, "losing the players we did was clearly disappointing, me and the club no longer see eye to eye on the way forward and its with a heavy heart that I step down as head coach."

Thoughts From The Media

Raphael Honigstein:

"Its amazing in football how quickly circumstances can change, Eintracht Frankfurt have gone from having one of the brightest front three in Europe, reaching a European semi final and finishing 7th in the Bundesliga to losing three stars and a head coach in weeks. It's going to be interesting to see how the club can handle the transition, but I have to say, they haven't dealt with things well so far this summer has been a mess. It's criminal to let 3 of your best players leave, sadly for the small clubs in Europe, being picked apart seems to be all too common."

Official Club Statement

Dear Loyal Supporters,

We understand and appreciate the uproar that has arisen around the decisions that have been taken over the last couple of weeks by the club. We want to make clear that every decision made by the board of directors is done with the clubs best interests at heart.

We did everything in our power to keep Luka Jovic at the club, however, the player had a clause in his contract that was activated, and when a club as prestigious as Real Madrid come calling, its hard for players heads not to be turned. When it comes to Sebastian Haller, the offer was one in which we felt the financial situation was right, and we didn't want to stand in the way of his dream move to England. When it comes to Ante Rebic, we understand he was a fans favourite and did everything we could in our power to keep him at the club, but in the end there was simply nothing we could do to convince him. We understand that all of this, with the surprise departure of our head coach is a lot of change, and leaves some seriously unanswered questions.

We want to make it abundantly clear to all involved in this football club that we believe the future is still bright, we are committed the cause of building a club culture on and off the pitch that will lead us to heights of German and European football. It is not often a club comes out with such a clear statement of intent, however in this turbulent time for all involved at Eintracht Frankfurt we wanted to send the message that we are united in our commitment and dedication to leading this club forward.

In the coming days we will have a press conference unveiling our new head coach. We are confident that our future coach will embody our values, and will be committed to the same goals and ambitions as everyone involved at the club. Now is not a time to be concerned, but a time to be excited. A time for hope. Our future coach knows the club, and we believe he is the right man to take us forward. Keep believing! Keep the Faith!

Peter Fischer
Club President

Will the official club letter appease the fans? Only time will tell, however, it is understood that excitement is starting to stir as fans and media alike are starting to speculate who will take the reigns at Commerzbank-Arena.

Bookies Odds

3/1 - Niko Kovač
5/1 - Domenico Tedesco
7/1 - Heiko Herrlich
15/1 - Gennaro Gattuso
35/1 - Jose Mourinho

Will it be someone on the list, or will it be someone no one saw coming...???
A nice start here, looking forward to the rebuild of a team who bought most football fans a lot of excitement a year or so ago! Good luck!

The world of football are left asking the question who? as Eintracht Frankfurt confirm that their new Head Coach will be German Ludwig Meyer. The Frankfurt born youth coach, is a openly vocal Bourssia Dortmund supporter. He's 30-years old and has signed a contract putting pen to paper on a 2-year deal. It was widely expected that Niko Kovač would return to the club, however, it's believed that Kovač has grown frustrated with work in Germany and is looking for a new challenge elsewhere.

A bit about the new coach?

As much as this appointment is a surprise appointment around Europe, for us, here in Germany Ludwig Meyer is well known in the professional football scene. The young coach was one of the brightest talents at youth level until a serious injury left him sidelined and his career ended overnight. The enigmatic German, not being one to give up, refocused his talents and spent the next 10 years earning his way to the highest coaching licence, He's more recently worked with the youth teams at his home town club as an analyst, and then assistant youth coach. Last season Meyer was linked with a move away from Frankfurt and was widely expected to become the first team assistant coach at Borussia Dortmund. Lucien Favre has spoken publicly of his admiration of the young German, and Ludvig too hasn't been shy in expressing his deep feelings towards both Borussia Dortmund and Lucien Favre. "I ****ing love him, attacking, fearless, but measured, composed, he's brilliant, bloody brilliant, modern day genius if you ask me." Meyer was quoted saying when he attended the end of season Bundesliga awards evening. However, for some reasons that were unknown at the time Meyer turned down the move to Dortmund, and now only a few months later we can see why. His loyalty has been rewarded with his first shot as Head Coach at Frankfurt.

Meyer's Football Philosophy

Meyer completed his coaching badges and came up through the ranks alongside his best friend, RB Leipzig Head Coach Julian Nagelsmann. He believes football, like magic is about wowing your audience, but doing so in composed and measured way. Keeping those who are participating always wondering what plan you will deploy next. Attacking football, built on the foundation of good defensive stability is key for Meyer. Deeply influenced by his childhood club Borussia Dortmund and his time as a youth coach at Frankfurt he believes in developing young players and giving them first team opportunities. Like any other Dortmund fan, he is inspired by Jurgen Klopp and his success, however, his style greatly differs from that of the Liverpool coach. Frankfurt are not expected to adopt a 'gegenpressing' style, however a more structured defensive approach like that of his 'footballing hero' Lucien Favre. Meyer's full backs will be key and he will expect them to be the engine and starting source of attacking plays getting the ball forward efficiently in transition. Most importantly, a defensive midfielder made in the mould of 'Jorginho' is something Meyer stresses as essential for any team. Weigl has played this role especially well at Dortmund and Meyer is a big admirer of the holding midfielder. Dominik Kohr or Sebastian Rode will most like be Frankfurt's best option for this role, however with Meyer's particularity neither will likely be long term options. Like Favre you can expect attacking transitions to be more controlled and measured and this will most likely see Frankfurt set up in a 4-1-4-1 formation.

Other Coaches Comments

Julian Nagelsmann: " It's a privilege to have my best friend coaching in the same league as me. He is highly talented, and his ceiling is extremely high. He will be honoured to have this chance to coach Frankfurt and I look forward to the games we have against one another this season."

Lucien Favre: "Meyer is an extremely talented young coach, and now has the chance to prove himself for the first time as a head coach, I wish him the greatest luck moving forward."

Jurgen Klopp: "I don't know a lot about him, I hear he supported Dortmund right? so that's cool. Best of luck to him at Frankfurt."

Club Expectations

Next up, we'll hear from the man himself at the press conference that will unveil him as the next Eintracht Frankfurt head coach.
Echoing the words of TheLFCFan, an excellent start here. Frankfurt have certainly not played it safe with their new appointment and I look forward to seeing how Meyer fairs. The clashes with Dortmund should make for interesting affairs.

Meyer Unveiled as Eintracht Frankfurt Head Coach

How does it feel to take your first head coach job at your hometown club?

"It's an honour, I'm delighted to have this opportunity. I've worked hard and waited patiently for my moment to come and I'm looking forward to putting what I've learned, my ideas and philosophy to the test in the Bundesliga."

What is your philosophy? What can the Frankfurt fans expect from a 'Meyer' team?

"Come on, lets not make it easy for the other Bundesliga league managers and their staff by giving them a tactical breakdown in this press conference... but for the fans, I like to attack and score goals and I like to defend and not concede goals...[chuckles] I have different ideas on how to do that. The fans can expect to come and enjoy the games. Be entertained, but equally I like to do so in a way that is progressive and patient. Waiting for the right moments you see. I'm sure you'll be able to write a lovely breakdown on my style over the coming months, when you do, send it me. I'd love to read it."

You come to the club at a time in which there has been some big questions asked about the direction they are heading, do you have a message for the fans regarding this?

"No nothing new, I echo the club's statement a couple of days ago and I am committed to taking this club forward with a shared vision, one that I hope all of our supporters can buy into and one in which I can make clear everyone inside of the club believes in."

You lost Luka Jovic, Sebastian Haller and Ante Rebic this summer and its rumoured you like to play with a specific type of defensive midfielder, do you have the players to replace them or will you go into the transfer market?

"Any club who loose players of that quality are going to have to replace them eventually, however, the situation isn't as bad as the media would lead everyone to believe. Of course who wouldn't want a terrific attacking trio? We have some young players here who I obviously know well and am willing to give a chance to impress in the first team. We have Andre on loan from Milan, and we signed Bas before I arrived and of course they will be a part of my plans. You are correct about my desire for a very particular defensive midfielder who has a certain set of skill. I'm willing to work with Dominik to see if he has those qualities, however, he may be better in a more advanced central position only time will tell. We have a modest budget and you may see one or two arrive and one or two depart but don't expect major changes in this first window."

What do you say to those who didn't think you were the right man for the club, maybe those who wanted Niko Kovač to return or a more experienced manager?

"I understand them, what they have to know is that Niko simply wasn't an option and as for my experience I can only hope to win them over with time. What I've done at this club at a developmental level has shown my commitment to taking this club forward and I believe I have what it takes to be successful here. I only hope the fans give me time, and eventually feel the same way. As Mr Klopp said when he signed for Liverpool, it's not about what people think at the start of your time, but at the end."

Speaking of the end, It's suggested that you one day you dream of managing Borussia Dortmund, what do you have to say on that?

"You know, I anticipated this question, it's a rather ridiculous thought ... obviously, I love Borussia Dortmund, I've been vocal about that my entire life. Lucien Favre is the right man for the job. He is a world class experienced coach and I wouldn't want anyone else in charge at Dortmund. I am delighted to be in charge at my hometown club. Frankfurt is my focus and I will do everything in my power to bring success here. I'm wearing my Frankfurt Pyjamas."

And in the future?

"Who knows what the future holds. I'm not a genie. For me as supporter of Dortmund, Lucien being the head coach for as long as possible is only good for the club. I signed a two-year deal here, and of course the club will consider if they want to extend that at a later date, and my sole focus is to bring success to Frankfurt."

What are your thoughts on Lucien's and also Jurgen Klopp's words on your arrival at Frankfurt?

"It's not a secret that I admire Lucien and the way he sets up his teams. I'm grateful for his kind words. I didn't know Mr Klopp had said anything, what did he say?"

He said "I don't know a lot about him, I hear he supported Dortmund right? so that's cool. Best of luck to him at Frankfurt."

[Laughs] " He doesn't know a lot about me... I'm just glad he's actually heard of me."

What did Julian Nagelsmann say to you about managing in Germany?

"Julian and I did our coaching badges together as you know. We spoke as I was preparing and he told me that it would be risk taking the job here... considering we play RB Leipzig on the second game of the season and he wouldn't show me any mercy. I told him not to worry about his mercy, but to worry about my team. We have an excellent relationship. He's an excellent coach and an even better guy and I'm looking forward to battling against him and his team in a few weeks, and hopefully for years to come."

Finally, you've had a hairstyle change since you signed for the club, what prompted the change?

"Well, you see, my computer stopped working. So we lost the old cut and had to get a new one and I fancied the blonde locks. Fortunately, we'd not got too far into pre-season so the fresh look didn't cost us too much."

Interesting words from new Eintracht Frankfurt head coach Ludwig Meyer. Next up - Frankfurt head into pre-season, we'll give you a breakdown of friendlies, new signings, and see if Frankfurt can qualify for the Europa League group stages with qualifiers coming up.

Brilliant press conference. Frankfurt and Meyer certainly have a job on their hands in replacing the likes of Haller and Jovic adequately, but it seems Meyer is confident in handling the situation.
