I have the same issue. ME is 4.0 so the actual game has updated, but GS can't open the save.
GS20 'g' edition was updated shortly after the 20.3 patch came out.
As this is the winter transfers patch, traditionally Eugene delays the update of the public edition for roughly 4 weeks; similar to what happens on the very first GS release for every new FM. It's his way of rewarding people who support him with donations.
All the patch updates in-between (FM launch and winter transfers) are done without delay between the 2 editions.

When I press the link in GS20 g to download the new version I receive a message saying "Restricted Access, Downloading files directly on our download servers is only allowed for FM Scout users. Go to fmscout.com to find the relevant download page of the file you're trying to grab." However these files are obviously unavailable so I'm unsure what to do. Any tips?
