Please help with tactics! Going nuts over this goal drought...

Hello!

Following the Corona crisis I have returned to my long lost love of Football Manager. Last game played before 2020 was 2017...

Now over to my problem: My team can´t score goals and therefore my games always ends in draws (my team conceads least in the league)! Once in a while, we get a goal, but only in games were the opponents also score.

Can you guys please help me find out whats wrong? I have attached my tactics screen, hopefully you can find something out just by looking at it. If you need more screens of stuff, please tell me and I will provide!

hey man one change i would suggest is either changing the striker to dlf or changing the inside forwards to wingers as you are crowding the centre of the pitch.
also recommending changing mentality to positive in game when you are dominating the game

I would agree with Reuben in the sense that your attacking shape may become quite one-dimensional if everybody attacks primarily through the middle. This can be particularly noticeable if you are playing at a slower tempo, as the opposition will have plenty of time to regroup and set up blocking positions to negate your attack - especially if they only need to cover the central areas.

Another way to alter this is to change your DR and DL to more attacking roles so that they offer more width going forward and can supply the guys in the middle from out wide, but this would obviously leave you far more vulnerable to opposition attacking the flanks.

You've got slow pace down and counter in transition, get rid of one of them, you either want to slow the pace down and take back control or counter. A slow counter just isn't viable.

Personally I think there's too much going on in transitions, I only have 1 or 2 things in there, I'm in the same boat as you, only got it a few days ago and before that I had FM17.

The above are good suggestions, would change the AP to support though, and DLF for the striker. If you feel like changing the formation, bring the AM down to MC and give him a role in there and play 433. Could then change one of the IF to AP (support).

Could you post a couple of the previous games stats, would like to see if you are creating a lot of chances and their just not prolific or just not getting many opportunities.

Another note is I'd get a secondary tactic trained.

Thanks for your input, it will be really interesting to try some new stuff tonight! Below is the stats from my last game and I see your point, the chances and posession are there, but the really good chances are missing...

You're getting a decent amount of chances, and on target too. Some minor adjustments to try like all of the above and you should be able to create more chances and hopefully convert them, other than that it may just be the scoring ability of your striker.

My main problem seemed to be that my attack was too centered and that my creative players didn´t have enough of the ball. Have tweaked some stuff and now the goals have started to come, I will am for perfection tonight!

It takes a lot of tinkering and finding out how you want your team to play, then finding the players to fit the system.

Ive found that IW for for both sides as they still keep some width though they can also run inside and look for the through-ball or for a shot but having supporting FB help to keep the pressure on the opposing FB ad wingers

Have a look at the AM on attack instead of AP - AP more sits in the hole though AM will make runs into the box as well which can create space for your striker. Pressing Forward or Poacher may help for the attack as they are more prone to looking to score themselves

Finally have a look at your training as youve been having lots of shots but the conversion isnt happening. In my United career i was having 30+ shots evry game but drawing or winning by 1 or 2 goals - i set up my own training schedules (set ones up for weeks where you have 1, 2 and 3 games a week) and added 2 shot conversion sessions a week. After about 4 - 5 weeks of that I smashed Brighton 5-0 and had a resounding 7-0 against Newcastle

Work out how you want to play and read the descriptions of what each role does and that should help you end the goal drought
