I’m playing 4231 with Milan and I’m winning the league. But why can’t I get my wingers to perform like Salah and Manè in Liverpool? I have Pedri and Calvin Stengs in my winger position and I try setting them as IW, IF and winger. I even tried with some personal instructions like roam from position, shoot a lot, risky passing on/off.
But although im winning, they only play with a season AVR at 7.00-7.10 while Salah and Manè play with a season AVR at 7.80 to 8.00.
Please help with some inputs because it really frustrates me!
An average is just that ...an average so if you are playing more games but winning more things that means you average can (an often is) less than a player like Salah who has played less games.
For example:
Sancho plays 10 games with an average of 8.2
Stengs play 30 games with an average of 7.1
...who is better??
...who has winners medals??
...who has contributed more to the team??
The average means nothing. Just look at performance and contribution to the team. Also if your winning and they are playing, dont stress. just enjoy the winning feeling.
I had Stengs when i was Holland Manager and he was great but only had a 7.6 average. But he was a great and big player for me.

What roles do you have your no 10, two centre mids & full backs on?
Have anyone ever had succes with using other than Winger in a 4231? No one is using IW or IF in that system.
I use inverted wingers mainly... But I so seek to build my squad around wingers who use their opposite foot.
To be honest with you I wouldn't worry too much about the roles or the pretty green circles being fully green & round.
All the roles like winger support, inverted winger attack are is pre-set individual tactical duties for that position and then all the green circles or role suitability's are is a pre-determined attributes that the game says should suit that role.
For example - Marcus Rashford & Anthony Martial are both right footed but can play as left wingers. This means that inverted winger and inside forward would give them greener circles.... But as long as they play left wing position wise then they can equally play just as well as wingers, advanced playmakers or Treq's.
They will both have individual player traits of run inside with the ball (I imagine anyway). If you play them as a winger where this isn't a standard instruction for this role they will still play as an inverted player due to their individual traits.
Their strength is their familiarity in the left wing position, the actual role for the left wing is not greatly important in my opinion. Ok it matters, of course... But don't see it as the be and end all out on the wings. I would recommend looking for pace, dribbling, crossing and then if possible vision & decisions.
Incidentally this rule works all over the pitch. A player who is natural is central midfield can play ANY of the central midfield roles. All the green circle is doing is advising that for the particular role you have selected he doesn't have the most ideal attributes in the games opinion.
The trick is to figure out which roles you want the position to play, rather than the player being able to play the role. Each role has it's own particular locked traits, you can see them in the role description.
So a balance in central midfield for example would be a 'number 6' player ball winning on defend duty to sit and protect the back four and a 'number 8' playing a deep lying playmaker on support duty to help in transition and further forward.
You then pick the players to play those roles. Again taking Man Utd as an example you would get Matic in the number 6 role and Pogba in the number 8 role. That's how you build a shape and team.

I have many tactics for my save games. I can provide you some base theory's if you require but ideally you would have a base formation and a football style you would want to try to replicate. I can help you try to build that if required.
For wing play I only use inverted wingers on support or attack. I find them the most versatile 'locked' role for that position. Again I wouldn't recommend looking at the role too much but more at the player you have there earmarked for that position. Look at where he receives the ball in line with the rest of your system and how you can get the best out of him.

Have you ever tried roam from position set to your IW?
Depends on what roles the rest of my team is on really. If you have a sitting APS or AMS for example in the no.10 position you could ask them to roam.
Bear in mind though if you want them to cut in with the ball then you don't ideally want them roaming inside before they actually have the ball. If anything they are better holding the flank.

So you mean have my IW to be put in stay wide?
I have my AP on roaming for position and move into channels.
If you want him to cut in then there's no harm is asking him to sit wider and then maybe asking the team to target that flank.
You are playing 4-2-3-1. Stretching your attacking midfield 3 for their natural sitting/starting positions would actually help them and the rest of the team shape wise. You would have more room to play up there.

I was using Knaps with IWB Support and wingers on attack. Won everything.
Know startet a new save and I wanted to se if I could get my wingers to score more. Therefore i put them on IW Att and with WB on support.
