Did KNAP's Table Ruin Football Manager 2020?

My main point is most Tactics I find here on FMScout are very similar to each other.

"Why/Are most tactics on FM similar?" or anything similar to that would've been much more accurate to the post, surely?

the post doesn't bother me, its a good discussion...only the title. Because you've singled out one guy

hey man the best tactic this year i think is not knap's tactic but phantom menace in fmscout. this is one of the only tactic that gives you very less yellow cards but lots of goals scored and less conceded. also there are tactic creators who create tactic which are successful like chrissy dude or lisa who have also created successful tactic. personally trying all the different tactics this year i think phantom menace is the most op tactic this year and not knap's

I see your point, RDF.

Perhaps the poster referred more to Knap's table of tactics here than anything else. No doubt there is an op style of tactic that has broken this match engine.

I totally agree, i've used a couple 4231 tactics and i find them more fun and better than Knaps versions. Also 442/424's there is some quality ones out there that also are not Knaps.

Knaps 4312/Xmas tree like tactics are my faves of his. But overall i tend not to use his that much, there is just too many.

My issue, if it even is one is the cult like fanboyism people have for him, that leaves many other creators going unnoticed.
I think it is a reasonable post, but as RDF said, maybe the Title should read eg Knap`s tactics.
I have recently downloaded I think 4 tactics, 2 of knap`s because I tried 2-3 of my own Tactics and kept losing & the pressure of keeping my Job / save alive resorted to downloaded Tactics.
However, I must say downloaded Tactics do not generally just work - they still require changing, getting the right players` etc. ; all with no guarantees, they just get you started.
I always find, it is good to see what others` [ especially who can play the game a great deal of more hours than myself ] do in FM.

The title I don't get, as the Knap tactics have been around since 2008.
This year he has had them in a google docs in SI, and people could find them there as well, but we here at Scout felt that we could make it easier for people to get them. Usually people have less time to play than this year, so we tried to make them more available.
So we built the table.

It was to make people's lives easier, not ruin anything.

The table is sortable by formation, what status in a league your team has, and with hidden keywords such as "wingplay" and "Solid" amongst others. This was again to make it easier for people to select the right tactic for a team. Some even have individual descriptions.

This we did because we feel that people do the error of throwing any tactic into any team.
And that does not work as good as people think. The days of "diablo" and "Scramjet" are over, now you need to work more to get it right.
You need to pick the tactic that fits your squad, or suffer less optimal results while you rebuild.
That's on YOU and not the tactic! :)
If for example you say Preachin Blues 451, I would instantly say Leicester.
Blue Matter 433 fits Napoli.
That's not even just the formations, but the club culture as we know it.
Does it matter? Who knows. I think it does.
Also some work for small underdog teams, and some for Elite.
Very few work well for both.

As for the best P&P tactics, it's not so much P&P as earlier years.
But I from the ones I have tested, would say Fire 41311, Fire 4321 p103, Spider, Invincible from Stephen HK, Albatross, Galactique 2.0. and Cerber from everyones best friend TFF! :)

Have a great week people!
I don’t think a set of downloadable tactics ‘ruin’ the game by any stretch of the imagination. It’s just one part of a much larger puzzle.

It only becomes a sticking point (in my opinion) when people place too much focus on that element of FM and neglect the other fundamental elements of management.

As for people who rely on downloaded tactics rather than make their own - that’s either out of personal preference (for ease) or down to a learning curve with regards to tactics. While I use my own tactics (and rarely modify them), I’ve no issue with people who use downloaded tactics - it’s essentially the same principle as people signing players recommended by other FMers.

I think for those with less time to play FM pre- made tactics are a godsend, I get enough grief off the wife for spending too much time on it. And when I try to explain that I've not even played a game, that I've been trawling through looking for players to scout and building tactics, she just rolls her eyes. So fir ne they maximise my playing time, by giving me a form of template to develop from and tweak depending on the system I'm using.
Keep doing what your all doing, if you guys didn't put in the hrs I'd prob play a game a week

That is one of the best comments i have read in a long time. I love the honesty and the bit about the wife had me cry with laughter. My lady gets the proper hump when she sees me login to start playing. hahahaha.

Best of luck to ya mate, hope your team does well.

Nice! I'll give phantom menace a try.

I should review the title, I guess I can agree. What sparked my post was mainly Knap's Tactics and how they're all very similar. It is clear that more than just Knap's Tactics that are designed this way and obviously tactics is not the only focus in the game and using Knap's tactics certainly helps us as players focus on other aspects of the game.
One thought just led to another.

I think another problem is that people haven't really looked into Knaps tactics. Yes, he has lot of similar tactics but a lot of them are updates or designed to be similar and also has tactics that are very different. He gives different variations to a system he finds that's very successful on FM20... Example, he has a 442 that's very quick and direct, but then has a 442 that's a little less risky in possession but out of possession he keeps the same because that's is very successful

So one 442, you'd use for a top team another you can use when you're team isn't so great.

People want instant success, but from a creators POV, why upload a tactic that won't do so well if that's not what people want?

Many years ago WWFAN decided my tactics were not P&p. The reason is that I also promote SUS tactics and control tactics.
Many use my tactics with other mentalities or different home and away tactics. All I try to provide is a good vase tactic.
I also promote Mentality Matters which provides ideas to play each match as a one off.
I also have TIME Tactics which do not use PIs so very plain vanilla tactics.
I

but where's the fun in that if you just download overpowered tactics which make every player play well, hence making teams willing to purchase them for a lot? it's way more satisfying doing it yourself

You can do that without downloading a tactic. You can create a base tactic in 2 minutes just from whatever ideas you have in your head, that you won't necessarily know if it plays well, then tweak it based on analysis and what you see on the pitch. Feels like an excuse to try and justify it tbh
