After 4 very successful seasons, Man United are the number 1 team in the world both on the pitch and off it. The financials are scary and the trophy cabinet is full.
The allure of playing for United is back and the fans expect fast, aggressive, fun, attacking football and with a big WIN at the end.
The future of the club looks great and I signed a new 4-year deal for £18.2M per year but then the board of directors did this to me.
I am very very frustrated that they have now demanded (‘preferring’) that I buy players who play for a club of similar reputation/standing.
I have found young players or what I call ‘potential’ players and made them big. It has made Man United a lot of money and it has been very profitable.
I feel my transfer activities are good enough to allow me to continue in my own style.
The only thing that could have changed the boards mentality is my deal for Lee Kang-In (nicknamed: fu king-gud)
He made United bigger in Asia and really developed the United marketing brand.
I am worried that for 2 reasons:
a. All that I have done before has simply been forgotten and I now have less authority at the club.
b. The commercial side of the club has taken over and that means the football aspect is worth less and less.
Only time will tell, but when you compare the Boards Vision from year 1 to year 5 …..it is very different and for me a little bit alien.
The original vision was very different than what they have now. I wish the Board AI was more interactive and better aligned to the game. It would make the game a lot better.
Changes that were made as from year 2:
a. Not signing players over 30 years old
b. Signing all 1st team players to 4-years or more contracts
…this was ok for me, even though I do like a 3-year contract for certain situations.
I guess the future will be interesting but I am a little nervous and I wonder what will happen if I win the league again and champions league BUT do not sign any high calibre ‘reputable’ players as per the Boards request.
Overall, I don’t like the way the club has developed at a senior management level.
