Hi,

Just got my youth intake preview through in December (I'm Rangers), and let's just say it doesn't make good reading... How often, if at all can this change before the players join the development squad in March? Or is the preview pretty much set in stone for how the squad will be? Always seem to get a poor squad!
The players you will get are set in stone from December. Maybe one or two will leave or join, but you can't make major changes.
Hi Gibbo8907,

The youth intake are generally bad and unfortauntely set in stone.

Be sure to check who is signed up and what contract they have. Sometimes there are youth trialists who slip through the net and are never taken on. I always recommend a quick check if ya have the time.

I had this situation on a few occasions.

Best of luck with the youth players and development.
It’s worth noting that the review is just like any standard scout report and is based on the opinion of a staff member (in this case, typically the HoYD). There might be a gem among the rough, if you’re lucky.
Cheers guys.. Every year I get about the same sort of report (first seasons squad had one 3 start the rest were pathetic)... Was wondering if there is every a change when they do end up coming through, I've hired a different HoYD due to two season in a row of poor squads coming through haha.
I know people prob know this, but on the off chance.
Scour youth teams for nations U19-23(I usually do Europe and Africa) and you will find players 16-18 yrs old who appear,. I normally check just after contracts expire and every month really. Look for players that when you look at their history have no club at all. These are generally quiet good players. And can sell off for a profit. Just an option if your a poor rep team to get decent quality in and boost the bak balance when sell on.

Apologies again if this is old news for a lot of people

Also, scout a larger area, watched a video, prob on FM scout that says increases youth km knowledge to recruit. Get a HOYD with a resolute, or model pro personality, attracts like-minded players, who develop better, than say fickle or mercenaries
Go to board requests & see if you can improve the youth recruitment network & junior coaching.
Also unfortunately, un til you build Rangers rep back up and knock Celtic off their perch, they may well be the preferred destination for the youth candidates. Or am I over thinking it?

Good question.

Your board should improve your facilities as far as your club reputation allows. So if you are on a level par with Celtic's reputation your board should be willing to match the youth recruitment scouting range etc..... Providing you ask them to of course. I make a habit of every end of June time after the club reputations are updated (I forget the date, it's near the end of June) to go the board and make sure both the youth network & junior coaching are at the highest they will allow.

Another issue will be Scotland's reputation/importance/coefficient for producing quality regens. This will be lower than say Brazil/Argentina/England and will mean Scotland will produce less quality players. That one you can't do anything about yourself. Scotland would need to improve their tournament results in your save, even then it's slow progress & just the circumstance of the nation you are managing in.
The levels are up there that's for sure, I have request the next level so that's due to be completed in the next few months... Scotland also seem to be doing well... or at least qualifying for tournaments (how unrealistic haha).

Just have to keep hoping for next seasons batch then with improved facilities :)
while this may look false but i had success with this. you can call it an exploit. just find the day your youth intake comes to your club. save the previous day and load that day to find the players you want like last year. i checked this many times and sometimes by doing this you can get a golden generation even when your youth intake preview is bad. i tried this with many teams as i wanted to check whether this works or not. in one of my saves with fc tokyo i had a crap youth intake preview where the hoyd said none of the players look good.i intially got a player with pa 120 nad others with pa 100 and lower(checked using genie scout). then loaded the previous day and i got a player with pa 183 with two players with pa 140 and 135 and 3-4 players with pa about 120-130. this can be false or something but i had success with this after trying this many times with different save.

also a tip i recommend is when you go to sign a player with youth contract check whether you get recommended
as youngster or future prospect. if it is the latter sign him. i once had 2 star potential youngster in my youth intake and when i signed him to a contact i was told his playing pathway to be a future prospect. he turned out to be better prospect than the 5 star potential player who was termed one of the best.
also recommend you sign a player with personalities like model citizen or model profession or professional. ever players with fickle personality you should sign since he has high ambition and will likely improve.i never sign unambitious or low determination player unless they have good potential then by which you can mentor him.
