I am currently managing Wrexham in 2037, I have reduced my squad size to the lowest possible number and I am not even attempting to use U23 players, can´t be bothered with the "elevator" micro management of sending players up and down. As it is you can´t make a player from the U23 squad available for the first squad while leaving them in the U23, I would really love that.
I am often involved in all competitions to the very end, that means busy weeks with 2 or 3 days rest between each match, obviously the training schedule is revised by me and most of it is either preparation, recovery or light technical training.
I am very successful but also noticed that after I started to tamper with training schedules for better results my non-starters in the first team simply weren´t training anything useful, in real life there are two trainings schedules, one for starters and one for those who don´t get involved in a game. FM only has one schedule.
Moving a U23 player for the occasional experience becomes a hassle, I need to remember to pull him off training in the U23 squad, move him to the senior squad, give him a match and move him down again so he can train regularly.
I can tell a senior player to play U23 matches but I can´t move him to the U23 squad for regular training that doesn´t involve a very light schedule only, they get upset if I move them. The non-starters are basically just training match preparation and light training for almost an entire season and thus not really evolving. I found the problem could only be solved by having a minimal squad where everyone is needed, there is no room for rare starters as they won´t get the needed training.
My question is, have I understood this correctly about how training functions or do non-starters actually get some for of training I just can´t see?
