Diary Entry 9
A few days ago I watched the first team play their biggest game of the season so far. We played against Juventus at the Signal Iduna Park. This was my first chance to watch one of my idols growing up. I was always a fan of Ronaldo, I loved watching him at Real Madrid and I try to study his movement because he always seems to make the perfect run when receiving the ball near the goal. The boys struggled early in the game, I was just as amazed as the rest of the team to see Ronaldo play in Dortmund. Ronaldo opened the scoring, Dybala scored their second and Ronaldo put them up 3-0 in the 38th minute. It was a terrible first half for us, but an amazing game to watch. We made a late surge in the final 10 minutes of the game, Dahoud and Bellingham scored but it wasn’t enough and we lost 3-2.
Yesterday the first team played in the Bundesliga and it was one of the worst performances this season. We lost 4-0 against Armenia Bielefeld. I feel kind of bad saying this, but I am quietly happy the first team isn’t bang on form. This makes me think that as soon as I turn 16 I will get an opportunity in the team, I feel ready, and it’s not long at all now!
Tonight I played another match for the U19s against Wuppertal. This was my 7th game of the U19 season, and I am really starting to feel in rhythm, training and playing well. Mata picked up the ball on the right and I darted across the defender to the near post, he played a perfect cross to me and I shot first time to put us 1-0 after 11 minutes. After watching Ronaldo the other night he inspired my celebration. I let out a loud “siiiiiiiiiiiiiii” after I scored, the boys thought it was hilarious. 10 minutes later I scored again but my goal was disallowed because I was offside. At half-time we were 2-1 up. The gaffer spoke to me at half-time and reminded me about Ronaldo’s movement. He said, “Remember how Ronaldo tricked our defenders the other day, he makes multiple runs, feints to go one way and sprints the other, I want you to try and do that in the second half, if you do it well, I guarantee you will score more goals”. I listened carefully to the gaffer and just 1 minute into the second half I put it into practice. I faked to go left and then turned right sprinting in behind the defence. I received the ball and I was in, you know what happened next, I slid the ball into the bottom corner to score my second goal of the game. Again I yelled out “siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!” We ended up winning the game 4-1 and I picked up another assist, for the fourth goal of the game. The U19s are still top of the league, and at this rate I can’t see anyone beating us! I reached my goal this season of 15 goals for the U19s, now I am going to try and reach 20, before I play for the senior team. Until next time.
